    1. [HATCHER] cemetery stone project - findagrave
    2. Nel, Requested one for Robert Hatcher in WI so they are all in "requested" mode. None in Maine. None in Rhode Island Vermont has 2 already on New Hampshire has none Conn. has 3. I requested 2 but one is already up for Madeline in Mashantucket Pequot Cemetery. Requested all 3 in ND Only 1 in SD and that's already up Montana had 8 done and I requested the 1 remaining Started on Minnesota - requested 7 in Fort Snelling National Cemetery. Started on Idaho whre 11 are already up and I requested 4 when I hit my limit for the week. Only allowed 20 / week. So, I'll finish MN and ID and then NY has about 35 and Maryland has about 25 and then Mass next if not already done by someone else. Someone asked about copywrite. Yes, that's the disclaimer on findagrave but I know MANY folks have downloaded my photos. But if you download and/or request a copy, remember they may not be of great quality. To upload to findagrave, they have to be the smallest size. If I do not use the smallest setting on my digital camera, they will not accept them. Then I have to shrink and retry. I don't bother. I just use my smallest setting. Enlarging them does not always result in good copies. And, then for my nieces wedding in June, I forgot to change the size. I took, all 200+ shots in the smallest mode. Obviously not good photos when printed out. Darleen

What has me annoyed are those who do not make the correction and do not respond at all. One particular example is where a maiden name has been listed for a Hatcher wife that is provably wrong. For the most part I've often seen corrections made within the same day. But I wasn't aware of techs being in the background. How do they become aware of a request for change made to one of the submitters and how are they aware thaf the change has or has not been made? Nel

    3. Martha, We can ask that the volunteer send you the photograph. I have done this for close family members. That way I have it to put in my FTM as well. I don't think anyone who volunteers really care if you use the photo's, it is FAG that makes those rules. But, it is a good thing to learn in advance. Winnette --- avast! 3. Nel, You do know if you find an entry with an error, you can click on edit and send the person the correct info. If they do not change it with in a few months, then FAG tech's will make attempts to get it done and if that fails, they will turn the submission over to the person who has the most and correct data. I have submitted over 11,000 (not many by most standards) and hardly a day goes by that someone doesn't want me to add or correct data. Typo's occur for we old folks and that is most often the primary cause of error. My trifocals give me much grief in this area. Also, if there are some entered of FAG for Thomas & Grady Counties in Georgia, I will try to get the photo's. However, there are many others that are signed up as photo volunteers for this area. If someone like Tim Hites notifies me [giving me permission, so to speak] that he's uploaded more pics, I list him as the "contributor" and enter his FaG URL as the owner/source. Except in rare cases, I've never asked permission to use a photo that has been placed on a public site but always just give credit to the owner, if known, or the site. This, I believe, falls under the "fair use" part of the copyright law in that small pieces of data from a published work can be used by others without permission but with the data sourced to the owner. So I believe Winnette is correct and that the only way one might get into serious trouble over copyright issues is if an individual attempted to sell a large collection of data/pics from a site without getting permission. 1. [HATCHER] Question about findagrave photos
    2. Nel, The question/answer below was on find a grave. Does this mean that before any grave marker photos can be uploaded to the Hatcher site, written permission to do so must be obtained? Just wondered....Martha Hatcher Welling I found a photo of a relative on Find A Grave, can I use it? Photos posted to memorials on Find A Grave are copyrighted by the member who submitted the photos. Lifting the photo to use elsewhere would be a violation of copyright. You must obtain written permission from the member to use any photo for your own use. In general if you did not take the photo yourself, you do not hold the copyright to the photo. [_Top_ (http://www.findagrave.com/cgi-bin/fg.cgi?page=listFaqs#faqTop) ]

I did it just now to see how the procedure works - easy! This is what you would need to do....... 1) Volunteer for a state and I will keep track of them. 2) Go to findagrave and search for hatcher in that state. 3) if a Hatcher does NOT have the tombstone icon, click on his/her name to bring up his/her page. 4) At the bottom right of that page, you will see the Request a Photo icon. 5) Click it and if you're not already registered, you must register. 6) Otherwise, enter your email addy and password. 7) If someone has already requested a photo, you need do nothing. 8) If not, all you need to do is click Submit 9) Continue this process untill all Hatchers with no pic have had a request made. If/when someone sends you the pic or a notification that it is now on findagrave, just let me know and we'll get it online. Any takers??

    1. [HATCHER] Wisconsin Hatchers on findagrave
    2. Nel, Your wish is my command! There are only 4 HATCHER's in Wisconsin on findagrave. Requested them. If you want me to do some other states, just let me know. Remember, the northern states have to be worked before the snow falls!!!! I had someone from LA expecting a photo from a cemetery here in January. I wrote I'd get it as soon I could get through the snow banks! Were you asking us to find names on the Hatcher website who are known to be buried in Wisconsin, upload them to findagrave, and then request a photo -- were you? That's another kettle of fish but can be done. Darleen

    1. [HATCHER] findagrave
    2. sent this from the wrong email address, so will try again. /Darleen Nel, I'll do Hatcher's on findagrave in the state of Wisconsin. I'm already registered. I have over 5,000 uploaded. FYI, when you request a photo, the volunteers for that zip code get an email. I automatically get requests for cemeteries in zip codes within a 15-10 mile radius. I know there are other volunteers getting the same notice. If I know we are going one direction, I look at other zip codes/cemeteries and plan our route to fulfill as many as possible. The volunteer can "claim" it or not. If "claimed" it must be done in 7 days. When the volunteer has the photo, they upload it under the "fulfill" category and when uploaded it sends the person who requested the photo an email saying their request has been done (fulfilled). All through the system. Darleen Chipman PS - You didn't say what you were going to do with the picture you requested of us. I would have picked one where my hair was at least organized! From both of us, thanks for the honor.

Yes, would like to have the tombstone pic, too. Then - I'm more and more impressed with how findagrave operates on getting these pics. I have more confidence in the data when I know someone, often unrelated, took that pic. In the recent past I've not been overly happy with many of the Hatcher entries that do NOT have a tombstone pic, It appears that many people are adding names and dates of people they may only "believe" were buried there. There are wrong names and dates being listed, additional info added that in some cases I have proof is wrong, etc, etc. It tends to look as if people are just adding unproven data from their family file. And Wisconsin is already done!! Thank you :-) I suspect many of the northern states will not have all that many Hatchers per state. "Were you asking us to find names on the Hatcher website who are known to be buried in Wisconsin, upload them to findagrave, and then request a photo -- were you?" NO! In fact, I had not thought of that angle. That would, yes, be a trickier can of worms :-) But if you're looking for more fun, you could start with Maine and work down thru the NE states. My suspicion is that it may be only NY and NJ where you'll find any Hatchers.....but we could still check them off the states list as DONE. Now I happen to think the pic you sent was lovely!! I could've worked with one of the reunion pics where ya' both looked like ya' lost your comb :-) Nel

    3. I forgot to add that once a photo request is placed on a marker, another one may not be placed, and so anyone else working on the same state can't duplicate effort. A note will come up saying a photo request already exists on that marker. I am a volunteer for Find-a-grave, but i am not able to walk a great distance any more because of back pain.. anyone know a good "Natural herb" for back pain? I HATE dr's.
