    1. [HATCHER] Whitlock/Carpenter Connection to ALFRED HATCHER d. August 1868 Edgefield County, South Carolina
    2. Vivian Toole
    3. List Members: I am still trying to identify the parents of my 2-great grandmother, Frances _?_ (Hatcher?)b. c. 1842 d. before 1880 m.c. 1864 James Whitlock, Jr. In the 1850 and 1860 census of Edgefield District, South Carolina, Frances was living in the household of Alfred Hatcher. What was her relationship to Alfred Hatcher? Was he her father or step-father or some other relation??? Was Susan_?_ Hatcher her mother, stepmother or other relation? I am still seeking additional information on Alfred Hatcher b.c. 1800 Edgefield District, South Carolina, son of John Hatcher, Sr. and Christian(a) _?_. I obtained the two documents I have transcribed below from loose papers in the Edgefield Equity Case files when I was in Edgefield last August. I only had about 30 minutes to flip through several files of original loose papers. In one, two or three instances there were numbered file folders listed in the index, but the folders were empty. The last numbered file in the equity court case index was one of the empty files. So I still don't know the outcome of the case or what happened to the Hatcher land that was the subject of the suit. The two documents below show that Alfred Hatcher died sometimes in August 1868. That Susan _?_ was his wife. That sometimes between August 1868 and April 1870, Susan _?_ Hatcher married Rice Swearingen. They still do not mention any children of Alfred Hatcher. The whole subject of the Equity Suit was that if Alfred had no children, the land left to Alfred by his father's (John, Sr.'s) will c. 1826 would revert back to Alfred's brother, John, and hence to John's heirs. There were several lists of the heirs of the brother, John, Jr., in the various equity case files/folders. One of John Jr.'s heirs were John and Frances Carpenter. I am interested in the identity of this John Carpenter. Again, as in the cases of Alfred's household, I think I am dealing with some scrambled census data. Did this John Carpenter marry two different women named Frances??? The first Frances would have been a Hatcher heir of John, Jr. who perhaps died young. The second Frances might have married c. 1870 to John Hatcher and was previously married to a _?_ Williams? 2. Intersting cuz I had an Uncle Charles Hatcher that went to Oregon years ago and was a sheepherder there, probably somewhere in the 1920's. Didn't stay though. He was from KY and has been deceased nowfor many years as are all his brothers and sisters and also his daughter and son. We are supposedly related to the Wm the Imm somehow, according to DNA, however, to this point unable to make a family connection as my gggrandfather, Johnathan, was raised by a family member (John Hatcher) and so they cannot positively find his parents beyond a shadow of a doubt. We have kids that live in WA state and while there in Sept noticed an advertising sign for Hatcher Concrete which after looking on line, appears to be located in Spokan area and also Eatonville WA. Welcome to the Hatcher cuzins. Even though we are "happy wanderers" it is most interesting to follow thru the history and geographics of the Hatcher families. I've learned a lot that was never in school books re: the geography and state developments. If you are ever in TX feel free to look us up. We'd be happy to see ya. I have a history given to me by Aunt Clara Hatcher Keith in 1982 of the Peters family, it is quite unique, it goes back to before they came to America, and there exploits with the Mormans, and a short history of all the childern. 3. I will have to make one correction to Rhoda's statement, "I would venture to say, one of the best." It is the best, bar none, of any of the other family sites at Roots Web. I belong to over twenty of them and none of them show the energy & efforts of Nel and this group as a whole! 3. Hi Leonard, My great-great grandfather was Charles Delaney Hatcher, a half brother to your Perry Lafette Hatcher.  My family ended up in the Kansas City area, so we are not too far from the Missouri Valley, Iowa area where Wiley Blunt and Sarah Frazier Hatcher raised their family.  If you are ever in the area, do look us up.
