Hello again. I had the opportunity last week to accompany a friend on a business trip that just happened to pass through Loudoun County where his brother lives. He was nice enough to take me to the Goose Creek Burying Ground in Lincoln. I was greeted there by a nice gentleman from the Goose Creek Meeting House who directed me to a section of Hatchers that took up two long rows. In the midst of the rows I was able to find some things that left me curious. 1. To the left of MAHLON GREGG HATCHER, I found an R.G. HATCHER. I was wondering if anyone knew to whom he belongs. 2. There are 2 uninscribed or otherwise unreadable markers to the left of R.G. According to the gentleman there, those would be older markers. One could infer that those might belong to some of the others that I didn't find a marker for. 3. Between WILLIAM (1808-1836) and ADDISON (1836-1840) HATCHER is buried an S.A. COOMBS (1888-1899). MARY ANN HATCHER (B. 1823 in Dorset, England) Married JOHN COOMBS in Dorset in 1847. Is this just a coincidence or a possible link between the DNA-connected Quaker and Dorset Hatchers? Also, for some reason, the COOMBS marker is facing the opposite direction. I was able to get pictures of most of the names I added on FAG based on info from the Leesburg website. You can find them here: http://www.findagrave.com/cgi-bin/fg.cgi?page=cr&GSln=hat&GSiman=1&GScid=1974309&GRid=43734450&CRid=1974309& I was also able to visit Ketoctin Baptist Church Cemetery. I was able to get more detailed pics of the J. HATCHER/ G.G. GREGG family plot which also includes the names CARRUTHERS (married into the Gregg family) and BROOKS (an infant whose connection I don't know). We did a quick drive through Sharon Cemetery. But it was getting too dark. I hope to return there soon when I can spend more time there. I hope I have raised a few new questions for us to pursue.
Thanks. After I sent the e-mail I did find quite a bit of info in the census at Ancestry.com. Does anyone know more about this family that is now on the website? We have very few dates and spouses and children. Would love to know more if anyone has any info. Sincerely, Shirley Hatcher Ross

Nel, Don't know about James Lace Hatcher but I saw yesterday where Howard Jackson Gibson and Sarah Catherine Hatcher's children are listed as born after 1860 on the Hatcher website. The 1880 Federal Census has the age of these children. It would make Mary Howard b. Abt 1868, Kate, 1872, Maud 1873 and Gourley 1875. What is your personal e-mail address again? I've set up a new file, Hatcher-Chaney WORK FILE and have spent most of the day building this family. I have them back to Jacob Chaney, 1722-1800 of PittsylvaniaCo, VA. This has been the easiest build I've done in a long, long time, starting from a guy bn 1858. You can search for John Lewis Chaney and work yourself back. And just for giggles, Jacob Chaney's gfather was apparently Richard Chaney. Nel
Also, if you search for Hatcher in this book and keep scrolling through, you'll see more references to Harry Hatcher, and also a reference to other Hatchers such as on page 501 where it has his son "Claude" listed along with others. Nel, there may be something funky with Harry's entry in your file. You have him listed as an infant death I believe, but I would think it strange that two Harry Hatcher's died on the same date in the same county. Thanks, Alan On Mon, Jan 11, 2010 at 2:46 PM, J. Near The Plains they came upon John T. Waller of Company A and Harry T. Sinnott of Company B, who being penned up in Fishback's lane, were called upon to surrender. Waller replied by opening fire on the enemy. The Federals returned the fire and Waller was shot through the head and instantly killed. Sinnott jumped the fence and made his escape. One of the Federal officers told George Fishback that Waller was the bravest man he ever saw. He was buried at The Plains, and after the war his remains was removed to Lynchburg. Lieut. Harry Hatcher, with a few men, followed the Federal cavalry down the turnpike below Aldie, when, thinking they had gone back, he returned to the house and went to bed. In the room with him was a young man who was to be married in a few days. A party of the cavalry that had been sent back surrounded the house. Hatcher, hearing the bustle outside, put his head out of the window and seeing a number of soldiers around, asked: " Boys, are the Yankees about ? " " We are Yankees," replied one of them, " come down." " Wait till I get my clothes on," said Hatcher. Then turning to the young man, he said in a low voice: " Hide yourself and I will go down. 'Tis better for them to take me than you." When he opened the door they asked if there were any more rebels about. " No," said Hatcher; and they went on their way, taking him along as a prisoner.4 4 Lieut. Harry Hatcher died April 23, 1895, at his residence, about 3 miles from Middleburg, in Fauquier County. He was paralyzed about a year previous to his death. Though a great sufferer, he remained cheerful and enjoyed the society of his friends and old comrades to the last. I'm pretty sure this is his entry in our file, although the birth year is obviously wrong: http://hatcherfamilyassn.com/getperson.php?personID=I3301&tree=QHatcher
Nell, I put the copies of the pertinent parts of the CABELL book in the mail to you today. If you want any additional pages after you examine them, let me know. I just copied all pages with references to the HATCHER surname, but there may be some auxiliary lines you would want to look at further. Blessings!
