In March 2006, Hatcher revealed to Vanity Fair that she was sexually abused from the age of five by Richard Hayes Stone, an uncle by marriage who was later divorced by Hatcher's aunt. Her parents, she said, were unaware of the abuse at the time.[2] In 2002, she assisted Santa Clara County prosecutors with their indictment of Stone for a more recent molestation that led his female victim to commit suicide at the age of 14.[1] Stone pleaded guilty to four counts of child molestation and was sentenced to 14 years in prison.[3] In an interview appearing in Vanity Fair, Hatcher said she told the prosecutors about her own abuse because she was haunted by thoughts of the 14-year-old girl who shot herself, and feared Stone might escape conviction. I don't know if she even knows about us or her family tree. But from the clip I saw on one of the celebrities, she supposedly descends from a "Salem witch." As I said earlier, ancestry is a partner in this project and is probably doing the "research." If the goal is to find scintillating facts like witches or mass murderers, I don't think our family qualifies. The one unique factor about the Hatchers is William himself - a member of the House of Burgesses AND a participant in Bacon's Rebellion. IF the producers consider this historical fact interesting enough, we might qualify. Otherwise, probably not. I've seen a few other research projects of this sort, particularly one guy who supposedly traces the ancestry of our more well known politicians. I remember seeing his "tree" on John Edwards who allegedly descends from our Wm. This tree was devoid of any supporting data and I remain very skeptical of its veracity. And I'M not claiming Edwards as even a shirt tail relative in our family :-) Knowing the difficulties in researching that far back and making proveable connections does make me wonder how accurate these celebrity trees may really be. Hello Hatcher friends, I apologize in advance for my non Hatcher research question? My Hatcher family is so well documented here I have little to research on that line thankfully. So many of you are experts at places to look and research, was wondering if I might reach out, again? I am at a brick wall with researching this family every way I can. I am researching a George Perkins ( I don't have a middle name for him) who was born about 1780 and lived until some time after the 1850 census but is not found in 1860 anywhere. I know nothing to speak of his early years, the full name of his wife or even where they married, she is just named "Elizabeth". It is possible he is the George Perkins listed in RichmondCo, NC in 1810 census. The family info fits, he has a son born about 1810 in NC and he and wife are of the right age. However, my first confirmed finding of him is in 1830 DallasCo, AL. I believe there is no 1820 census for AL either it wasn't a state or it didn't survive. Then in 1840 he is in MobileCo, as is in 1850. He has some land grants in Sumpter Co, and Mobile, both in that lower AL area........ Looks like he was double counted in that census because he is also enumerated in Union Parish, LA in 1850 ( census was taken in Sept. where as the Mobile one in July). In the Mobile census he is listed with daughter Rebecca Perkins Turner and her family. In Louisiana, George and Elizabeth are listed next to eldest son John Wesley and wife Tabitha Red( not sure of the spelling). This is a family with mostly daughters ( 5, Nancy, Mary, Rebecca, Keziah?) and 2 sons, William and John Wesley, which might explain my difficulties in finding conclusive info, not enough men who married and had children. Plus this family was so on the move. They didn't stay put for long. Rebecca was born in 1824 in Summerfield/Summerville ( not sure) which might be in the Mobile area. In the Mobile census he lists being born in GA ( Georgia) but his birth was prior to statehood, so I assume the census wanted to know what state was his place of birth at the time of the census, meaning 1850. So I guess my questions would be, where would be a logical place for me to research his birth family? If in 1850 it was Georgia, might it have been where in 1780? I have been unable to connect him to the right birth family. I find no Perkins with a MISSING or unaccounted George. Its as tho he is an orphan and very unconnected. Also, he is of the right age where he could have served in the war of 1812, what states should I been looking for him to have served under??? My research in the south is pretty green. Other than Mobile, Dallas and Sumpter County, I am a novice. Rebecca, hubby and kids headed for Minneapolis after the civil war, sometime in 1866. But all her siblings I can trace stayed south, moved on to LA, and in 1860 and beyond into TX. Anyone else have such a mixed up family and so little paper trail, or am I the only blessed one?? Also, if someone has any website that might be helpful to direct these NON Hatcher questions I am all ears. I don't want to keep bending everyone's ears here. George Perkins's GGG grandson married a Hatcher is where the Hatcher connection is.
