    1. [HATCHER] Mary Brady? or Mary Beall?

    3. HATCHER website: http://hatcherfamilyassn.com HALL DNA project: http://homepages.rootsweb.com/~nhatcher/hall/HDNAtest.htm "One of the tragedies of life is the murder of a beautiful theory by a brutal gang of facts" - La Rochefoucauld Good Friday nite to all......... During some long ago discussions on Maj John and Mary, his wife, I had suggested that their 1st born child, born 1780 named Jeremiah B, may not have been Jeremiah Brady but may have been Jeremiah Beall, named after Maj John's commanding officer who died in battle. I should note that while the whole world shows his name as Brady, there has never been found evidence that was true. While googling around today, I've found a number of Beall recs that are of interest. http://www.usgennet.org/usa/ga/county/taylor/rev/garevroster4.htm BEAL, JEREMIAH. Captain; killed in action. Entitled to bounty as refugee, per certificate of Gen. John Twiggs, 22nd March, 1784. (Petition of James Beal, an infant, heir to Jeremiah Beal, deceased, by Zephaniah Beal, his father and natural guardian, for 575 acres.) BEAL, ZEPHANIAH. Certificate of Gen. John Twiggs, 6th February, 1784. Entitled to 250 acres bounty. Prays for same in Washington Co., and appoints Hugh Magie to receive same on 15th January, 1784. The above site has even more Bealls in the same time frame, many with certs for WashingtonCo land. Excellent site for GA Rev War soldiers. I'm reading this as James, infant son of Zeph, being an heir of Jeremiah. Not sure how that works since it would seem that Zeph and not his son would be the heir. Also appears that Zeph was Jere's brother and not his father. Moving right along.........I also found the Long Creek Baptist church records. http://users.ticnet.com/shmartonak/gawalng.htm This is the church John and Mary belonged to. There are 13 refs to Bealls as members of this church. While it appears the Bealls originally came from Md, I'm seeing very little on the GA Bealls who carry many of the same names, such as Zephaniah, found in MD. When I do find a few trees, there seems to be much confusion in making MD-GA connections and I see what looks like a missing gen. Too many Bealls dying in their 90s and many uncertain dates of birth. Many make ref to Capt. Jeremiah and claim he was born 1722. I don't think so. I suspect he was much closer to Maj John's age, bn 1757, and this is possibly an example of a missing gen. I think it's also possible Mary may have been Jeremiah's sister. I might also mention that the Offutt name appears to come from MD, too, and married into the Beall family. Offutt is another military name found in many of our GA military recs. The Bealls were all over Wilkes/Warren/Wilkinson Cos - the stomping grounds of Maj John. Sooooo! For any of you digging around in GA or SC recs, please keep an eye open for the Beal/Beel/Beall family in the timeframe 1750-1830. Nel

One person may want to start by going to the page of their first known Hatcher in AR and working their way thru each family member until they remove from AR. Others may want to check only those individuals they know is missing data in their own file. Perhaps you're missing the marriage date or place or perhaps you have no spouse for someone and you're looking to see if I've found a spouse. Every person's needs will be different but it really is a case of searching for those family members you're most interested in. These AR marriages are dated 1837-1957 so both old and new. One clue on the page will be the Last Modified date in the FAMILY section of the page. Below is an example of a change I made this morning. Family Emma LNU, b. Mar 1868, GA , d. Yes, date unknown Married 2 Jun 1893 DecaturCo, GA [4] Children 1. Pearlie Hatcher, b. Aug 1894, GA , d. Yes, date unknown Last Modified 11 Mar 2010 If this date is anywhere between Oct 2009 and the present, you'll know I've made a change. You can then compare the data on that page to what is on your file and make corrections accordingly. You can also check What's New [home page] and scroll down to the last section to see the most current 200 text changes I've made. The top sections are all images. But What's New only applies to changes made in the past 30 days. What's New is a place you can check occasionally and skim to see if any of your family is there. Hope this helps! Nel

Brady, Patrick, Oct 1768, 10 mo in GA, wife and 5 children, asks for 250A on Buck Head, 1m of Jas Howell; Mar 1769, asks for 150A on Buck Head; Aug 1769 granted 250A; Nov 1769, has 6 children, asks for 200A; May 1770, granted 200A adj Wm Moxley; Oct.1770, granted 250A. There are 2 possibilities on USGS - Buck Head or Buckhead. Buckhead is in JenkinsCo, formerly the very southern end of BurkeCo. Buck Head is in ChathamCo and even further south. I tracked down the Wm Moxley family and they were in EmmanuelCo so still in the BurkeCo area. None of our Hatchers have ever been found in this timeframe this far south and if that land was in south BurkeCo, it certainly wasn't close to RichmondCo. When we look at the timeline, we have Maj John in 1778 in WilkesCo and in 1779, he married Mary. WilkesCo is north of Richmond, even further from BurkeCo. It's in 1786 that he is found in a deed as John of RichmondCo buying land on Joe's creek adj Brady [no given name]. This is the first known connection between John and any Brady family but 7 yrs after his marriage. Unless a Brady family can be found living in WilkesCo, where Mary was very likely living, there is currently no known connection to the Bradys until several years AFTER the marriage. Nel

    3. FYI.  This was posted on another list. The State Library of NC and NC State Archives partnership continues, as 249 new family Bible records have been added to the NC Family Records Online Collection. If you are searching for a family name that starts with "A"-"E," be sure to search for it in the database, as the State Archives has completed the scanning and transcription of the first portion of their collection. For those family names that start with letters "F" or later, a large sampling of names from the rest of the alphabet were made available as part of the pilot project.  The collection will continue to grow on a bimonthly basis until the 2,200+ records in the State Archives holdings are made full-text searchable through this online resource.  Also added recently by the State Library is a copy of a sketch of the New Garden Quaker Community as it appeared in March of 1781.
