    3. Is an alternative to the Hatcher email list at Rootsweb being set up, or is the i/o group set up by Rena Worthen meant to replace this list? I haven't seem any discussion, although I may have missed out on it. Only five people have signed up for the i/o group. I hate to see this group die out. Donna White-Dropkin

    3. William Watson and Wilson Hatcher: My mother, Annetta Hatcher White's DNA is uploaded at Gedmatch; she passed away last summer. I just relabeled her Gedmatch kit to reflect her full name, and it is kit T591244. We are descendants of John/Eve Hatcher. My grandfather was Lee Roy Hatcher, then William Spencer Hatcher, John F. Hatcher, John R. Hatcher and John Hatcher/Eve Morris in Washington Co. TN. My DNA is at Gedmatch also, kit A267261. I also have DNA tests at FTDNA and MyHeritage (both uploaded from Ancestry) and at 23&Me. All reflect my given name. Sending a second email in a second about the Rootsweb list.... 3. Folks, As Wilson suggested, please consider uploading your *raw* DNA data to GEDmatch.com. More simply, *please let me know if you have taken a DNA test anywhere. *(I only know about the folks who are members of the Hatcher project at FTDNA.) Here are directions for *downloading your data from Ancestry*: https://support.ancestry.com/s/article/Downloading-AncestryDNA-Raw-Data Here are directions for *downloading your raw data from 23andMe.com* (from FTDNA!): https://learn.familytreedna.com/imports/autosomal-transfer/download-autosomal-dna-results-23andme/ To download your raw *FamilyFinder *data from FamilyTreeDNA.com, log into your account, then go to FamilyFinder Downloads, or follow this link: https://www.familytreedna.com/my/family-finder/downloads (GEDmatch.com *only* works with data from chromosomes 1-22+X. They do *NOT* make any use of Y-DNA.) Be sure to download the "Build 37 Concatenated Raw Data." *You do NOT need to "unzip" the downloaded file.* GEDmatch.com accepts the ZIPped file as-is. Here are their instructions for *uploading the file*: https://www.gedmatch.com/Include/UploadHelp.php You need to register with GEDmatch.com first. That's free, and they have many free tools. If you upload to GEDmatch.com, *please send me your kit number.* They allow group projects, but only after a group has at least 20 kits. If you download data from Ancestry or 23andMe.com, *you can upload them to FTDNA for free*: https://www.familytreedna.com/autosomal-transfer If you do so,* please join the Hatcher DNA project*: http://www.familytreedna.com/surname_join.asp?code=T80694 FTDNA lets you use their matching tools for free, but wants a one-time payment to use their ethnicity estimates. You can also upload your raw data to MyHeritage.com: https://blog.myheritage.com/2016/05/myheritage-is-adding-free-dna-matching/ (They allow you to look for matches for free, but limit some tools and features to paid accounts.) You can also upload your data to LivingDNA.com.They're just getting started, so have *VERY* few kits so far. That's one reason they're happy to have folks upload their data! Oh, I see that they're have an extra incentive: "Everyone you invite or upload will receive access to Family Networks for *FREE*." So, use this link to start your upload: https://my.livingdna.com/upload/start?referrer=5708e17f-3d43-49bd-a292-5505c7e982f9 For more information: https://support.livingdna.com/hc/en-us/articles/360012746031-How-do-I-upload-my-data- Of course, each of these sites has their own policies about privacy and for users. You should make your own decisions about those. 3. Good Morning Hatcher RootsWeb Team, I found out, regarding RootsWeb closure, through my RootWeb connection to the "WOODWORTH FAMILY" sight . This group has quickly established a new sight and are working on getting everyone re-instated to receive / go to Woodworth Family news and information. Please keep me informed of what the Hatcher team decides to do. I sure do not want to lose contact with the HATCHER Family / cousins sight!! Sincerely, Cynthia L. Users will no longer be able to send outgoing emails or accept incoming emails. Additionally, administration tools will no longer be available to list administrators and mailing lists will be put into an archival state. Administrators may save the emails in their list prior to March 2nd. After that, mailing list archives will remain available and searchable on RootsWeb. 3. Yes, I did! Fred -----Original Message----- From: William Hatcher [mailto:thehatchers@windstream.net] Sent: Monday, January 13, 2020 10:34 AM To: hatcher@rootsweb.com Subject: [HATCHER] RootsWeb Mailing Lists Going Away Anyone else receive this from RootsWeb? ww January 2020 The following is from an email message sent to many RootsWeb users from the RootsWeb administrators: Beginning March 2nd, 2020 the Mailing Lists functionality on RootsWeb will be discontinued. As an alternative to RootsWeb Mailing Lists, Ancestry message boards are a great option to network with others in the genealogy community.
