    2. First, I apologize for the length of this but by offering a few explanations, it might help someone figure out something, ring a bell with someone, and won't have to be repeated too many times. Is anyone working on Harveys in Prince George's Co., MD, other than William/Statia? My direct line is GROOME, however, I'm still trying to put together info for one daughter, Eleanor Groome, who was married to a THOMAS HARVEY on the 1776 census. Eleanor was married previously to another, unidentified, Harvey but probably a JAMES HARVEY as indicated on various documents including her father's will. ELEANOR (GROOME) HARVEY wrote her will in P.G. Co. 23 May 1795, proved 21 Jul 1795, devising her 50-ac inheritance in Mount Calvert Manor "where she lived" to her son William Groome Harvey. The remainder of her estate was left to her children (not named) and grandchild Lucy Harvey. The 1776 census shows children: Henry and Virlinda Harvey. Records of Henry Harvey's christening, marriage and christening of his first child are contained in St. John's Piscataway Church Records of P.G. Co. (protestant episcopal). Eleanor was first married to a Harvey by 1734 when her father wrote his will but Thomas Harvey (her husband in 1776) would have been only about 13 years old so he could not have been her husband at that time (if his age is correct in 1776). WILLIAM GROOME HARVEY left no will but his estate administrators were James G. Harvey and Leonard P. Harvey, 24 Feb 1803. (Leonard P.'s admin was filed in P.G. Co. 26 Nov 1825.) NEWMAN HARVEY seems to also be involved (possibly William Groome Harvey had a son named Newman?). There was a Newman Harvey named as a son in the will of Thomas Harvey written 2 Apr 1729 in Calvert Co. This Thomas also named sons John and James and daus Mary Stalling, Sarah Harvey and Samuel Harvey and 3 unnamed grandchildren. Samuel Harvey was reversionary heir of John and Newman. Thomas Harvey's Calvert Co. will was proved 8 May 1729. Confusing the issue of the Thomas Harvey will is another for Thomas Harvey JR. written 19 Mar 1728/9, proved 8 May 1729 (did the transcriber/abstractor make an error here since it was proved same day as the other Thomas Harvey?) Thomas JR. named son Thomas to be free at age 16, and daus Elizabeth and Jane. Reversionary heir of daus was Samuel Harvey. Thomas JR. might have died soon after writing his will 19 Mar and so was not named in Thomas Harvey's will written 2 Apr (cutting it close) and possibly the court term of 8 May 1729 was the closest to present both wills (unless there is an error in transcribing). Thomas JR.'s 3 children could account for the 3 unnamed grandchildren in Thomas Harvey will of 2 Apr. In "Orphans & Infants of Prince George's County, Maryland 1696-1750" by Dorothy H. Smith 1976, there is an entry November 1739 where THOMAS HARVEY, aged 16, chose his guardian as his Uncle JAMES HARVEY of P.G. Co. So this would appear to be the same family as the two wills. BUT, do they relate to Eleanor Groome Harvey? The name of Newman Harvey enters in, James Harvey and Thomas Harvey. Did Eleanor m1. James Harvey, then m2. Thomas Harvey, her husband's nephew? Thomas's age is off by only 2 years on the 1776 census compared to being age 16 in 1739. This Harvey family is also closely allied (unknown how) with the family of Thomas and Mary Dorsett (as were the Groomes) besides Eleanor's married sisters' families: Orme, Selby and Hamilton. Who were Eleanor's other children? Does anyone know anything about these Harveys? Others on the 1776 census of St. John's and Prince George's Parishes were: James/Mary and John/Elizabeth and, of course, the area of P.G. Co. where the census takers refused to turn over their collections so we don't know WHO was there. Will be glad to work with anyone interested in any of these particular Harveys. I have gathered quite a bit of info but have not been able to put it together with documentation yet. There must be missing pieces around somewhere. Ruby
