    3. Seeking any knowledge, of the families of sisters Caroline and Danielena *HARVIE* born about 1849 and 1851 respectively , at "Roseway", Avondale, Hants County, Nova Scotia, daughters of Daniel Lockhart Harvie (1811-1851) and Sarah Lewis Lavers (1820-1875) ? The families of either or both, are known to have been established in the Los Angeles area in the 1920's, involved in stone fruit growing and movie film production. It is known both were still alive in 1925. Any help with info or suggestions will be much appreciated. In particular has anyone access to the 4 volumes of LA County Marriages, which I understand go from 1851-1877, as their married names would be a great starting point ? Are there any suggestions how to start to find their descendants ? I live in Australia. Presumably they died in Los Angeles County. Are there death indexes for LA ? Can they be searched for a death if only a maiden name is known ? If so would any certificate show their parents names and those of surviving children ? Does any issuing authority have an e-mail address to which they accept inquires or alternatively to what address can one write ? They came to California, possibly initially to Santa Clara Co., sometime 1852 to 1866 together with an older sister Ellen, who married Joseph Meyers at Linn's Valley, Kern Co. CA on 18 Dec 1866. Also likely in the party was their mother Sarah and a William Lavers & his spouse Susan. Possible in the party Andrew Harvie (who's full given names may have been William Andrew). He was shown residing with the Lavers in Kern Co. California at 1870 Cenus. I understand a biographical history exits which mentions a Thomas Lavers arriving at San Francisco in 1852 from Nova Scotia, who ca. 1859, bought land in Linn's Valley in Kern Co. Does anyone know where Linn's Valley was in 1859 and whether it was a large place then ? If small would seem too co-incidental for the marriage and the land purchase to be unrelated, indicating Thomas Lavers may have also been in the party that came from Nova Scotia, and the year they all came to California may have been 1852 ? Are there any records of the names of persons arriving on ships from foreign ports at San Francisco in 1852 ? oooooOooooo As a new subscriber, I read the past Harvey-L posts, and noted one 5/1/96 re cousins. If you are still lurking D.S. of St. Paul, above is a new one for your list of *Harvie* - Hants County N.S. oddities - a brother marrying his brother's wife must beat a cousin marrying a cousin's - and they both died in tragic circumstances aged only 32 and 40 ! Also, re the `phenomenon' to which you were responding. The first of Daniel and his first wife's children, was Walter Harvie, who came down here to Australia in 1860. He had 12 children and two of his sons married two sisters. Another son died twice and was buried twice with due ceremony - 40 years appart ! Do you know of other Hants County *Harvie* family descendant to have risen from the grave ? If this has become just two much - you can read re Walt at URL: http://www.about-australia.com/nsw/nswtown.htm#coffs If true to the book, the movie `Oscar & Lucinda' - starring Ralph Fiennes, due for release in one month, will feature a most unusual eccelesiastical creation arriving in 1865 at the mouth of the little Bellinger River, in the State of New South Wales, to which Walter Harvie came in 1863 and lived at for two years before moving in 1865 about ten miles North, to become the first white settler at a place now named Coffs Harbour pop. 55,000. Also R.P.S. if still subsciber - ever find anything out about the Alexander Harvie who married Janet Brown ca 1700 ? John Raymond [email protected]
