HARVEY, Rita "Rita Morley" (GANN ); 69; Simsbury CT, NY Post NY; 1997-6-30 "NEW YORK POST, Monday, June 30, 1997; page 22: TV star Rita Morely Harvey, an actress once dubbed "America's Most Televised Girl," has died at age 69. Harvey died on Saturday at the McLean Home in Simsbury, Conn., after a long battle with cancer. Born in West Hartford, Conn., her given name was Rita Gann. She later adopted Rita Morley as her professional name. During the 1950s and '60s, Harvey was a regular character on television soap operas that included "As the World Turns," "The Edge of Night" and "Secret Storm." She was also the spokeswoman for the Coty Co., a makeup company, in the 1950s. Between the soap operas and commercials, Harvey made so many television appearances that she became "America's Most Televised Girl." Aside from TV, Harvey also made Broadway appearances in "The Seven Year Itch" and "The Impossible Years." Harvey was also a member of the board of directors of the American Federation of Television and Radio Artists, and the Screen Actors Guild. She wrote several books, including "Those Wonderful, Terrible Years," a history of the actor unions' struggles with blacklisting in the 1950s. She also wrote a gardening column for the Westport News, alternating with Martha Stewart. Harvey was the widow of Kenneth Harvey, who was also an actor and former AFTRA president. Harvey is survived by a sister, Ellen Chorches, and a brother, Morley Gann, both of West Hartford. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. today in the chapel of the Weinstein Mortuary, West Hartford."
