    1. [HARVEY-L] Rev.Isaac HARVEY (born 1786, Wilkes County, Georgia)
    2. J. C. Marler
    3. To All, Since this is my first message to the HARVEY list, I should introduce myself by specifying my relationship to the family HARVEY. I am the son of Eleanor May SCAIFE and Dunn Craig Marler. Eleanor May SCAIFE was the daughter of Ida May SLOAN and Charner Augustus Scaife. Ida May SLOAN was the daughter of Della Amanda COX and Joseph Dudley Sloan. Della Amanda COX was the daughter of John Calhoun COX and Sarah ("Sallie") Elizabeth Allen. John Calhoun COX was the son of Amanda Melvina HARVEY and Samuel Waller Cox. Amanda Melvina HARVEY was the daughter of Rev. Isaac HARVEY and Sarah Garland Napier. Amanda Melvina HARVEY was married twice, also leaving numerous descendants in the family STELL. A better view of this system of kinship may be seen at: http://www.crosswinds.net/~marlerjc/index.html Isaac HARVEY, according to different memoranda handed down among the descendants of Amanda Melvina HARVEY (ABT 1811 - AFT 1854), Samuel Waller COX (7 June 1808 - 1837), Helen Marr HARVEY (ABT 1811 - 1877), and Oliver Wiley COX (11 June 1802 - October, 1852), was a backwoods revivalist in Georgia, either of Presbyterian or of Methodist persuasion, who married Sarah Garland NAPIER (23 January 1791 - AFT 1811) against the wishes of her putatively irreligious father, Thomas B. NAPIER (1 November 1768 - 30 September 1838). Some investigators, including Timothy Bidleman (http://worldconnect.rootsweb.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?op=GET&db=timothybidleman&id=I 09460), report that Isaac Harvey was the son of Rev. John HARVEY (1749, Virginia - 1823, Clarke County, Georgia) and a Margaret UNKNOWN, who were married ABT 1769/70. One of these investigators, Larry Alexander (http://worldconnect.rootsweb.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?op=GET&db=lra001&id=I01705), i ndicates that Rev. John HARVEY, who seems to have been a Baptist minister, was a resident of Wilkes County, Georgia in 1785, the same county as that in which Isaac HARVEY was born in 1786. From the documentary information given at the end of this message, it is demonstrable that Rev. Isaac HARVEY had at least 4 siblings: 1. Ruth HARVEY (ABT 1773 - probably BEF 15 January 1808): m. Benjamin KENDRICK (died before 2 March 1812), 1791 2: James HARVEY (ABT 1775, Virginia or Georgia - AFT 15 January 1808 and BEF 7 March 1808, Baldwin County, Georgia) 3: Sarah ("Sally") HARVEY (ABT 1779, Virginia or Georgia - 1841, East Feliciana Parish, Louisiana): m. David FLUKER (28 April 1774, Georgia - AFT 1840, Louisiana), ABT 1806 4: John HARVEY (ABT 1781, Virginia or Georgia - ?) At the moment, the only evidence of which I am aware for the parentage of Rev. Isaac HARVEY and, therefore, of his siblings, is circumstantial. If anyone seeing this message may be aware of any evidence for his parentage which is better than circumstantial, I will be most grateful to be furnished with information. Any other information concerning Rev. Isaac HARVEY, of course, will also be welcome. Family-group information for Rev. Isaac HARVEY, as best as I have been able to construct it from materials available from the families COX and NAPIER and from other sources, accompanied by documentary notes, appears below. Pending additional evidence, what I present here should be regarded as subject to revision. Thanking all of you for your help, I am Sincerely yours, /s/ Jack Marler, fourth great-grandson of Rev.
