I was talking to a cousin about the 4 Harvey brothers and information from a book on them and data from my research that sheds light on these Harveys and some of their descendants. I believe other researchers can benefit from this information. > Dear Greg: > > I hope that your computer is in working order as I am going to share the > information that is in the book. I obtained a copy from a man named > Groover Paulette. He has researched the Harvey and Paulette lines for over > fifteen years and the sources are documented. Can you tell me the name of this book. If you already have, the name escapes me. Thank you for sharing this information. > You mention that Charles > Harvey was the father of Blassingame Harvey. The problem is that there is > a Blassingame Harvey Sr., and one that is the son of Charles Harvey. He is > known as Junior. This is all based on the research in the book but seems > to be accurate for what I have done so far. Yes the Blassingame Harvey son of Charles Harvey Junior was also called Junior. The Blassingame Harvey who died in Jefferson County Georgia was a cousin to Charles Harvey junior and his father was Thomas Harvey of Lunenburg Co. VA who married Elizabeth Blassingame. I was assumeing the ancestor you were talking about was Blassingame Harvey Junior but it was Blassingame Harvey Senior you were talking about. > Here is my husband's line > since I am researching his family. They were closely assocaited with each other in > deeds andother records. They wre John, Thomas, William and Charles Harvey > and were probably all brothers. William, John, and Charles moved to S.C. in > the 1750 and 1760's while Thomas stayed in Virginia. I know That John moved to SC and William moved to SC. Charles Harvey how ever has no deeds or other in SC or VA. It has been assumed that he went to SC since no deeds are found of him in Virginia. I have how ever documented evidence that Chrles Harvey Senior was in Virginia in 1762 with a land deed there and a book written by a Holcombe descendant that the parents of the Harveys I have in Lauren county SC were in Prince Edward County Va just before the start of the Rev. War. The book states that there was a Patriotic fever about the family. Which is not surpriseing since all 6 sons served in the Revolution. >Langdon Bell and > John Brodies cite this in their books Sunside of Virginia and Historical > Southern Famlies VOl. 1 respectively. These brothers' parents hav enot been > identified but John and Thomas's estimated birthdates match of record of > thefour sons of John and Susan Harvey that are recorded in the Abingdon > Parish Register. The Abingdon Register also listed four sons born to John > and Ann Harvey. Thank you for this. This is a great help and confirms the document (Land deed to William Harvey's son Zephaniah Harvey who married Nancy) which states that William Harvey one of the four brothers father was a John Harvey. I have an abstracted copy of this deed and am going to send for the original. This gives me a good lead on where to search for this John Harvey. > Now to Charles Harvey who first shows up in Lunenburg County, Virginia in > june, 1741 in the court record of Goochland county, Virginia. HE is head > of a family in the 1752 tax list with one tithe. Charles was also granted > land in 1761 on Cub Creek in LUnenburg County in 1761. This isthe same area > where GThomas Harvey also owned land which later became Charlotte County in > 1765. Problem here, I know you are quoteing from the book. In 1762 for the deed I have Charles Harvey senior was living in Bedford County Virginia and was selling land in Prince Edward County Virginia. He was also in Prince Edward County VA just before the start of the Rev. War. > Charles is shown moving with his orther John and William in 1772 to > Craven County, South Carolina. I have many deeds for that area but the Charles Harvey there is son Charles Harvey junior and not Senior. Charles Harvey Senior at this time is about 58 years old, or would have been. I have some info that shows that all the Harveys living in Laurens County SC from 1770 -1790 were taken care of their Brother John Harvey. I have a deed when Thomas Harvey died in 1780 that John Harvey was his nearest living realitive. I also have a entry that shows that John Harvey paid about 2000 pounds for debts of Thomas Harvey his brother. Thomas was the first son born to charles Harvey senior. Thomas mother is believed to be Frances Blassingame. Some believe that the Thomas Harvey who was in Brunswick county VA was Charles Harvey senior's son but it was the one in Laurens County SC who died abt 1780's. Thomas was in Laurens County then called the 96th district abt 1776. John Harvey's signature also appears on some of the Harvey Brothers Rev. War payments. It is believed by me that John Harvey got all this money form being the heir of Charles Harvey senior. The problem is finding where Charles Harvey Senior died. If he did die in SC there is no record of his death. If he died in Virginia it would be after they left Prince Edward County Virginia just before the start of the Rev. War. > Charles Harvey was a purchaser in a estate > sale in 1792 in Lauren County, S.C. in 1792 John and Charles Harvey were > purchasers in the same county in 1815. This Charles could have been a > grandson. This Charles was either a Charles Harvey Junior or a Charles B. Harvey a grandson and relation to my Thomas G. Harvey and a Joel Harvey and a Blassingame W. Harvey who were grandsons of these Harvey Brothers from SC Laurens County. > There is a James Harvey and a Charles HArvey, Jr.of Charlotte Co. Va. > which were definitely the sons of Charles Harvey. James harvey is mention > in a headright grant in Burke and Jefferson Co., Ga. and Charles Harvey's > son Blassingame Harvery inheritsland next to James Harvey.. This James Harvey may be the son of Charles Harvey junior. James Halcomb Harvey son of Charles Harvey senior died during the Rev. War. When payments were made to James Harvey for his service his brother John Harvey signed the sheet and was his heir. I have many deeds for the Harvey brothers in Laurens as well as quite a few in Franklin County Georgia. I have a deed where Charles Harvey Junior calls himself Charles Harvey senior becase he is selling land in Jackson County Georgia which was formed from Franklin County GA. He called himself senior because a Charles Harvey in Franklin County GA owned land there also. This Charles Harvey is believed to be Charles B. Harvey. His wife was also called francis and his father was John Harvey who also served in the Rev. War. John Harvey had land deeds in this Franklin County along with Littleberry harvey. These Harveys (John and Littleberry) left Georgia about 1808 and moved to Maury County tennessee. Going with them were their sons Joel Harvey, Thomas G. Harvey, Blassingame W. Harvey, and Charles B. Harvey. Shortly after moving there john and Littleberry along with Charles B. Harvey and Blassingame W. Harvey move to Adams County mississippi by 1812. They then move to Louisiana about 1815 and appear there in the 1820 Census of Louisiana. They are believed to have died shortly after the 1820 census. John Harvey is about 80 years old and may be living with Charles B. Harvey. Littlebery Harvey is also about 80 being born abt 1740. Charles B. Harvey served in the Rev. War and was elected as head of the Military in Hickman County Tennessee about 1812. Charles B. Harvey would have to have been born about 1764 to serve in the Rev. War. Charles B. died in Louisiana. Charles B. was thought to be the Brother of Blassingame W. Harvey. If Charles was born abt 1764 he would be a older brother. Joel Harvey was in Laurens County SC as early as 1779. Joel was married in Virginia about 1772 and Married Nancy Ann Clayton. I have a deed in Laurens County SC in 1779 when Joel was 14 or 15 years old and he witness's a sale with a Charles Harvey. The question most ask who is this Charles Harvey. Is it Charles Harvey junior? Charles Harvey Senior is believed to be dead by this time. Is Joel Harvey's father charles Harvey senior who was in Bedford County VA in 1762 , 4 months before Joel Harvey was born. Is Joel Harvey the last son of Cahrles Harvey Senior and wife Mary Holcombe? The deed in SC of Charles Harvey in 1779 with Joel Harvey is believed to be Charles Harvey junior. Senior is believed to be dead by then. > Charles HArvey, Jr. married Frances Harvey, daughter of Thomas Harvey of Charlotte > Col. Va. They had seven children all mentioned in his will in Jefferson > County, Georgia They were 1)Blassingame Harvey, Jr. who is mentioned in > the will of Blassingame Harvey Sr. as marrying Sr.'s daughter Betsey > Tuberfield, 2) James Hill Harvey 3) Thomas Harvey 4) John Holcomb Harvey > who married JaneHogg5) Elizabeth who married Robert French 6) Sally Harvey > and 7)Sussannah. __________________________________________ NetZero - Defenders of the Free World Get your FREE Internet Access and Email at http://www.netzero.net/download/index.html
