It looks like there may be another cousin out there researching my Harveys! Thanks in advance for any help! 1. [HARVEY-L] Wayne Co. WV Harveys
    2. Ann Lahtinen
    3. Hello, I noted many HARVEYs buried in the cemetary enumerated on this USGenWeb page: http://c-23.rootsweb.com/usgenweb/archives/wv/wayne/cemetery/endictt1.txt which includes the following information: ENDICOTT CEMETERY, GENOA, WAYNE CO., WV This cemetery is located in Genoa, Wayne Co., WV, just off of route 152, on a hill above and behind the Genoa United Baptist Church. If you're travelling down 152, look for a sign to the church, and turn off of 152. You can ask the pastor for directions from there. The WATTS family cemetery is nearby (also on a hilltop). The WATTS and ENDICOTT families are related. I started listing graves from the RIGHT side of the Cemetery as you face it, and worked my way back and around up to the LEFT side. There are MANY broken/worn/missing tomb rocks in this cemetery, indicating that it is older than the WATTS Cemetery which was started in 1900. Also, there was a Typhoid outbreak in this region in 1922 which took many lives. THE SURNAMES ADKINS, BEATY, BERRY, BOWEN, COPLEY, ELLIOTT, ENDICOTT, FERGUSON, HARVEY, HOLLAND, HUNDLEY, JACKSON, JOHNSON, LANDA, MARCUM, MITCHELL, MCCOMBS, NOE, OSBORNE, PERRY, RIEDER, RICE, ROBERTS, ROBERTSON, ROBINSON, ROSEBERRY, SHIPLEY, SMITH, WALKER, WATTS, WEBB, WILSON, ZORNES -- Kindest Regards, -- -- -- -- -- -- -- Ann Harvey Lahtinen -------------------- www.HarveyGenealogy.com GOONS/ONS#2938 HARVEY-L Administrator

    1. [HARVEY-L] Father of four Harvey Brother's of Lunenburg County VA.. and other Harvey's
    2. Gregory A. Simmons
    3. A while back I sent a email about a abstracted deed in Edgefield County SC that states who the father of the four Harvey Brothers were in Lunenburg County VA.. I sent for the deed and the deed confirms what the abstracted deed stated. John Harvey tansfered the deed to his son, William Harvey ,by his will. William Harvey died and the land was given to his son Zephaniah harvey. What John Boddie calls a John Harvey moving to Granville County SC about 1755 as bing a John Harvey born abt 1700 one of the 4 brothers of Lunenburg County Virginia is by the deed I have actually the father of the 4 Harvey Brothers. His wife then would then be Mary as John Boddie says that the deeds show from Granville County. The real name of the county is Greenville County not Granville County SC. As this item below shows that I have found. These 1756 Records consist of 963 Head of Houshold (H/H) for the Greenville District, South Carolina. It is Alphabetized by Last Name, then First Name. There are Nine Headings which represent: SNDX ---> Soundex (Last Name "Sounds like") County ---> County where record was found! St ---> State where record was found! L Name ---> Last Name of person! F Name ---> First Name of Person! NARA ---> National Archives Records Administration! Roll ---> Roll/Reel Number of Micro-film at the NARA! Pg# ---> Page Number on Roll/Reel where person was found! Family Grp ---> Family Group Number of person found! H610 GREENVILLE, SC HARVEY George TaxR 000 236 Muster Roll H610 GREENVILLE, SC HARVEY James TaxR 000 232 Muster Roll H610 GREENVILLE, SC HARVEY John TaxR 000 236 Muster Roll H610 GREENVILLE, SC HARVEY John TaxR 000 236 Muster Roll H610 GREENVILLE, SC HARVEY William TaxR 000 229 Muster Roll (One of these John's according to the deed I have is the Father of the 4 Harvey brothers of Lunenburg County VA.. ) George may be another son making 5 Harvey brothers. William may be William Harvey who was the father of Zephaniah Harvey. The other John Harvey may be a son of William Harvey as may James harvey. For the other researchers listed in this email here are some more of the Harvey's we are researching and others that may connect to these Harvey's HARVEY, CharlesGA ,Franklin Co. 1807 pg 060 Tax List (Charles B. 3. Hello Dan, I would be interested in any answer you get from this query if this does prove to be Polly dau. of Isaiah Harvey and Mary Jenkins. Isaiah is my 4th gr-grandfather and I am trying to establish the families of all of Joel Harvey's siblings for a generation or two. What further info do you have on Samuel Hill and Polly? Or other members of Isaiah's family? I can give you the lineage backward from Isaiah Harvey (quite a bit forward also) but don't know much about Mary Jenkins yet. Do you have other info on Jenkins? Have been working on this family for several years and have found two apparently unrelated Vermont/New Hampshire? Hill families who have married into the Harvey line in the 1820s to 1850s - always curious as to whether there is a more involved interrelationship to be discovered. Good talking with you. 1. [HARVEY-L] Genealogy Rip-Offs
    2. Ann Lahtinen
    3. Good Morning, This was sent to me on one of my other lists and I felt it should be passed on so you'll all be aware of it. Don't fall for anything that this company tries to sell. You will recall our conversations in 1997 about the "New World Book of Harveys" that a similar company, Halberts, was peddling. At that time I bought a copy of the "New World Book of Harveys", promising that I would review it before anyone else paid the whooping $40 for it. And it turned out to be junk (see my review at http://www.geocities.com/Heartland/6575/library/review.htm ). BEWARE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Date: Mon, 28 Mar 1994 12:01:15 -0600 From: Joe Sissom <dj@dfc.cc> Subject: Rip-offs of the genealogy community continues Good Morning, friends and cousins in the genealogy community! The response to the identification of the genealogy rip-off operation in Denver last week has been tremendous with a steady stream of requests for add'l info. The operation in Denver with a newly discovered "branch" in Utah is an incarnation of the identical scheme that Halbert's used. The same form letters, books and newsletters are being sold, and the same fake "Crests" and other products are being created "to exacting standards". The new incarnation has not yet been linked financially to Halbert's or NUMA (Halbert parent), but the resemblance is so close, they could be joined at the hip, operating under dba's Mountain West News Service, Mountain Pacific News Service, and MORPHCORP. The Better Business Bureau reports that the company has joined the BBB in January 2000, opened in 1985, and is rated as satisfactory. A complete history of Halbert's, courtesy of Jeff Scism (despite our surname homonyms, we ain't kin --- he hopes!) is available at http://homepages.rootsweb.com/~blksheep/shame/halberts.htm Volunteers interested in assisting in informing the genealogy community of this scam have come out of the woodwork. We would ask the recipients of this email the following: 1) A sample of the Colorado flyer is at http://www.dfc.cc/CyberCousins/genfraud.jpg Print it and post in the genealogy section at your library with appropriate message and make announcements at your gensoc. 2) After you have read it, as a researcher you realize the fraud that it is. Go to the Federal Trade Commissions website at https://www.ftc.gov/ftc/complaint.htm and file a complaint ONLINE. For a sample complaint and further detailed information to use, please go to http://www.dfc.cc/CyberCousins/complaint.txt 3) Forward this to every list you are on. 4) If you are a member of NGS (shane@ngsgenealogy.org) or FGS (fgs-office@fgs.org), contact those organizations and ask that they get members motivated. Gentech, Inc. (beau@connect.net) has a director and a well-known regular conference speaker in the Denver metro. I asked them to do some local research. No response to date. 5) Contact every genealogy columnist whose work you read, both local and online such as Myra Gormley (myravg@prodigy.net} or Dick Eastman (ROOTS@compuserve.com) who was stalwart in early work on Halbert's, both of whom, as well as others, are on this list. No response to date. 6} If you have rec'd a flyer yourself, please report the names and addresses to me. We need to know all the DBAs they are using. Then take it to the local post office and file a complaint. 7) If you are in the Denver area, we need search of the court house records to determine any corporate connections. If we can make a corporate connection, I am fairly sure the restraints placed on Halbert's can be extended by the proper authorities. 8) If you are a supplier (software, services, researcher) to the genealogy community, this type of scam effects you even more. Contribute to the effort. 9)This is no small time scam. Halbert's is owned by a company named NUMA whih in turn is owned by CENDANT. Go to http://itjobs.cendant.com/cendant_co.html to find other Cendant companies. You will NOT be happy with how you have been doing business with folks like this --- I promise you. These scams are more likely to rip off folks less involved in genealogy than most recipients of this msg. Most of us will recognize it for what it is and trash it. That does not relieve us of the responsibility of making it more difficult for these and other parasites within our community to enjoy their ill-gotten gains. I have found far too many that "don't want to get involved", "Didn't happen on my watch." (to use an old Navy excuse), running from controversy and responsibility. Let us unite in eradicating those that are behind an obvious attempt to profit unethically from the popularity of genealogy. 3. Just to advise my site has a series of 10 letters written between 1762 & 1819 by several Harvie family members in Aryshire, Scotland, to a relative John Harvie (1730-1822) in Avondale near Windsor, Hants County, Nova Scotia. Not literary masterpieces but do give some insights into the times and concerns of locals in both places. The letters can be viewed from "Correspondence" link in first para at: http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~jray/harv/harvhis.htm John Brisbane, Australia

    1. [HARVEY-L] Harvey's in Hopkins Co.,KY
    2. Brenda Gaines Gulick
    3. History of Hopkins Co.,KY history bites pg. 13. In 1784, the price to be paid the Commonwealth for waste land on the western waters was fixed at thirteen shillings and four pence per 100 acres. Military Grants in Henderson County were chiefly laid off in adjoining surveys of 1000 acre squares with lines on the cardinal points in"connexions" on the high lands or watersheds of various creeks, thus the Clear Creek "connexion" such surveys for John Fowler (assignee of Arthur Lind, the soldier), William Fontaine, Gabriel Long, Irvin Mills, John McDaniel, Thomas Edmonds, John Ball, Robert Ball, William Parker, " ROBERT HARVEY ", William Rives, William B. Walker, William Meredith, James Buckner, Humphrey Woodson, John Clark, William Lindsay, George Gillison, Peter F. Archer, ( lying just North of the line of the present Noel Avenue in Madisonville), John Jordan, Benjamin Mosely, James Scott and Francis Brook. On Drake's Creek there were like grants to John F. Mercer, Tarpely White, Holt Richardson, and William Ledman. There were four such tracts for Brigadier General Daniel Morgan of the famous "Rifle Brigade", who rendered such distinguished service in the Revolution. Larger tracts were granted to officers, Nathaniel Gist, a noted scout and to Presley Thornton on both Clear Creek and Drake's Creek; Thomas Gaskins- 3000 acres on Clear Creek (6 miles Northwest of Madisonville); 1,666 acres on Drake's Creek to Ensign John Trabue; and 3000 acres to Dr. Mace Clements, surgeon; 6000 acres on Flat Creek to" JOHN HARVEY "; and 2,000 acres on Drake's Creek to General Thomas Posey, apocryphally alleged to be the son of General Washington. [If John Harvey was an officer in the Revolution he had to have been born about 1755 at least, and was Robert Harvey his brother?] ------- pg. 14. The Trabue and Clements tracts are at present (at least in part) in the hands of remote descendants or collaterals of the grantees, but none of the grantees ever really settled their grants. The settlers were chiefly those who took up the waste and outlying lands upon land office warrants or bought from the Military Grantees. The Ohio was the chief highway into the country and flatboats or broadhorns or rafts were the means of it's navigation. All who had money to invest, all who were financially able to regard the comfort or convenience of their families aquired land from Richard Henderson and Company, or others, as close to the River as they could, leaving the hinterland chiefly to the more daring and adventurous, and the restless, to desperately poor immigrants, to fugitives from debt, victims of suretyship, the unsettled conditions and stringincies resulting from War, and the uncertaincies of the land tenures, and to a small class of fugitives from justice. Few were men of means, most were of fair learning in the 3R's and of mature years. Most of them brought their wives and children to make new homes for them on the western waters. pg. 53. Daniel Ashby, residing on Otter Creek, was an early comer. As surveyer, he laid off the "JOHN HARVEY" military survey in 1788. pg. 64. Hannah Murphey was granted letters of administration on the estate of Stephen Murphey, with " LEMUEL HARVEY" and Martin Hewlett as sureties, gave the required bond, and John Bone, appraises in current money the personal estate and slaves of Stephen Murphey. John Carter registered his stockmark. Squire Ashby appeared. pg. 85. Thompson Woodson (1838-1863) first married Miss Em Hart, who died without issue; his 2nd wife, Miss Allie Frost, bore two children ; Cassandra Ware Woodson and Thomas Woodson,Jr. After the death fo Thomas Woodson, his widow married "LEMUEL HARVEY" and bore him 2 children: "LAURA and JOHN HARVEY" . pg. 106 in 1807 the "John Harvey Military" survey was referred to in a court case of a piece of land adjoining it. pg. 136. "JOHN HARVEY" was appointed and qualified as a constable with Edmund Slaton and Presley Pritchett as his sureties. (Oct. 1808?) pg. 162. Tax list; HARVEY, LEMUEL , 200 acres Tradewater, Pond River, Robert Langford, 3 horses. pg. 224. In 1811, "Lemuel HARVEY", a local preacher, formed a class at the home of Joseph Arnold, near the mouth of Pond River, now McLean Co., then Muhlenburg County, and the class was composed of General Stephen Ashby, Joseph Arnold, Arthur Slayton, John Arnold, Hannah Arnold, William and Margaret Faith. The order book of the County Court shows that in 1809 , Reverand Lemuel HARVEY (erroneously stated to be an Episcopal Minister) was authorized to solemnize the rites of matrimony. --- Hopkins County Ky Marriages, 1807-1868 John Harvey m: Hewlett, Anne Sep __, 1800 Winston Harvey m: Whyte, Polly Sep 23, 1818 --- 1810 Hopkins Co census Harvey, John (1 m 26-45) (1 f 16-26) Harvey, Lemuel (1 m 10-16) (1 m 16-26) (1 m 45 up) (1 f under 10) (1 f 10-16) (1 f 16-26) (1 f 45 up) If Lemuel Harvey was 45+ in 1810 he had to have been born 1765 or before!! ---- 1820 Hopkins Co census Harvey, John S (1 m 16-26) (1 m 26-45) (2 f under 10) (1 f 10-16) (1 f 26-45) Harvey, Winston (1 m 16--26) (1 f under 10) (1 f 26-45) Harvey, John Jr (1 m under 10) (2 m 10-16) (1 m 26-45) (4 f under 10) (1 f 10-16) (1 f 26-45) (1 f 45 up) pg. 329. They attended court in the formal dress of the times; knee breeches, stockings, buckled shoes or top boots, long coats, carrying their papers in green bags or in teir immense white beaver top hats. Their hats were chiefly of local manufacture made from fleted fur of rabbit or beaver, and one of them would weigh 5 pounds. pg. 360.
