Good points, Pat! I especially appreciate the mail-lists because my email comes in everyday whereas I only log onto the web once every 1 or 2 weeks. Of course, there should be more when I eventually got there, but then it would take that much more time to go through queries and/or discussion lists. Guess there's no easy way. I am a newbie to this list. I don't even know if it is a private list or not, so maybe my comments will not seem important. Please don't jump down my throat, this is only an opinion. BUT---- Why would we continue to have a discussion list, if these messages would be possible to access by non-subscribers? What's the point? I listown 8 lists- 4 are surname lists, and 4 are county lists. and they are all private. I made them private to eliminate the spamming and advertising, and also this is the way the subscribers wanted it. One of my lists can only be subbed through me. It's not just a Yes or No question! Copyright does come into it, and also hoarders. My county lists work in conjunction with the USGENWEB county pages. So a short blurb is on the page about us. I also am listed on Genealogy Resources on the Net and at Rootsweb. and then once every two months, I go to Genealogy Forum and get into the State lists, and advertise some more. My surname lists range from 35 subscribers to 190. My county lists are smaller, and that's okay too. Well just my opinion.-- Hope to see more ideas on this subject. Ruth, The main problem I see with this is the same with other archived lists: my email gets bombarded with junk mail from unscrupulous bulk-mailers - just like your snailmail-box. Otherwise, closing it with a password does defeat the purpose but it would be better if Marc also has a system to sort out junk mail posted to mail-list members altho I realize that's probably a tall order. Marc has made it possible for us to have the list archived on a web page. I have been sitting back waiting to see how it will work. To me it looks great BUT I will put the question to the list if they want it or not. It can be set up with a password so that only those subscribed can access it or it can be open. The reason I'm asking is that we want people to be able to go there! We want those unknown cousins, who are not on the mailing list, to be able to find us, see what we're doing, get addresses of those who have matching families...in short MAKE CONTACT! BUT we need to talk about the visibility of email addresses, privacy and copyright issues and unanimously agreed that our purpose is to share, to contact other HARVEY researchers in any way possible, and make it easy for other HARVEY researchers to find us. Having the archives password protected will do the opposite of that. And worse yet, will decrease the usage by members who SHOULD be able to access them quickly and easily. It's up to you. 1. Do we want the list archived? Yes No 2. Do we want a pass word? I am seeking any information on MABRY HARVEY and his wife ELIZABETH CEAMER HARVEY. In 1850-60 they were living in the Oak Lawn section of Greenville County, SC. By 1880 they had moved to Cherokee Township, Spartanburg County, SC and in 1900 they were found in Woodruff, Spartanburg County, SC. On the 1900 census, Elizabeth stated she had 13 children 5(8?) of which were still living. The names of the known children are: Artemus (born ca 1852), Emily Elizabeth (born ca 1855), Franklin (born ca 1857), John H. (born ca 1859), William (born ca. 1872), Landrum (born ca. 1875), and Laura (born ca. 1877). Any information on this family would be greatly appreciated. Ruth, thanks for listing my grandmother Rebecca Elizabeth HARVEY. Her second marriage was to my grandfather, Harvey MORRISON. Yeah, his first name was "Harvey."
I have been intrigued by the Harvey connections and information on individuals since I joined the Harvey list. Hi, I am looking for information on Augusta A. Harvey born in Iowa in 1869. Augusta married Harvey Rhoades. Augusta's father (unknown) was born in New York This is all I have learned in many years of searching. Thanks , JoAnne
Haven't seen anything for quite awhile so checking to see if I'm still signed on.
I have some Harvey info that I got from Doris Troyer who got it from an elderly aunt. I have been researching this line for about 4 yrs and everything I have found verifies that it is true, so will share it with the group. Four Harveys appear as heads of families in Lunenberg Co.
