Does anyone have a HART family in Coshocton Co., Ohio? Mine is Hiram HART (parents unknown), b. ca. 1795-1800 in Coshocton Co., OH, md. there before 1827 to Nancy CHAPMAN (parents unknown), b. in Phildelphia ca. 1800. They had 5 or 6 kids there before moving on to Illinois -- Phebe, Elizabeth, Anna, George, and maybe Mary and William. They went to Adams Co., IL, by 1840 where four more kids were born -- Jane, Maria, David, and Amos. Reuben HART patented 80 acres of a U.S. Millitary Survey in Section 24 of Twp. 5 in Coshocton Co., April 2, 1832. Does that mean he had military service? My "other" life is as a quilt historian, and a new book has just been published about the Underground Railroad that helped slaves escape captivity into Canada (Hidden in Plain View), and Coshocton County, OH, was an important stop on the road to Canada. An 1898 book by Wilbur Siebert, The Beginnings of the Underground Railroad in Ohio, is said to disclose the names of individuals as well as pinpoint their homes, but I haven't had the time to search for the book yet. Always anxious to find more cousins out there. --Wilene Smith in KS
