This week I visited the William S. Hart Museum, Los Angeles County, CA. A visitor from the British Isles had left them a family tree of William S. Hart. The museum director gave me a copy but cautioned that she did not vouch for its authenticity. William S. Hart's earliest ancestor reported in this tree was Benjamin Hart, christened 12 July 1724. Benjamin Hart married Susannah Richards 28 October 1745. There were five listed children, including William, christened 7 April 1753, who married Ann Welch 13 December 1776. There are six children listed for William and Ann including William, christened 31 March 1782, who married Kathleen Murphy of Ireland and came to the USA in 1815. William and Kathleen had a son William Benjamin, who was the father of Nicholas, the father of William S. Hart the silent movie star. No sources were given for any of this information Alice M. Smith has previously reported the subsequent vital statistics re W. S. Hart. The museum is fascinating whether or not you are related to W. S.
