A check of Ancestry.com has a John & Mahala HART in the 1850 census of Bainbridge, Dubois, IN with 8 children. One of their boys was a James. Might be your J.B.? John & Mahala Hart also were posted (with family) on Ancestry World Tree Project by Steve Swires Dec.2005. swires@linesat.com Maybe he knows of the Bible you refer to. John and Mahala are my gggrandparents. I am trying to verifiy some information I have that came from a family bible. I am not sure what part of the family it belonged to.
