In 2 October 1866 in Rome, Georgia Alfred W. Hart married Frances Tate. In the 1870 census Alfred is 24 and Frances is 30. Also with them is a Josephine age 10. By 1880 Frances is dead, Josephine is 19 and listed as Alfred's daughter. Josephine married Thomas Gilliam 28 October 1880 in Rome - but according everything I have found on-line Josephine is listed as the daughter of Joseph Hart and --- Tate. Alfred is obviously too young to have fathered Josephine - but I cannot find any records that indicate that Frances was married before. Where can I go to find who Josephine really belonged to and how Alfred got her? Any clues welcome on this one.
