    1. Joseph Hoff Hart
    2. Mel McClellan
    3. I am looking for any information to what happened to JOSEPH HOFF HART who was born in abt. 1810-1817. I found documentation that a Joseph Hart married Sally Hoff in 1810. I also found a Joseph Hart who wrote his will in 1817. He wrote about his son, Joseph Hoff Hart and daughter Elizabeth. He also mentioned his wife and mother, but did not give them names in the will. According to "Hart Family of New Jersey", Joseph Hart, son of Richard Hart married Sarah Huff. It also stated Richard Hart of Hopewell, married Margaret Snowden and she died in 1817 at age 92. So it is my belief that his mother, Margaret was alive when the will was made out in 1817, but died later in the year. I also have Richard's will, where he wrote about his wife Margaret, his sons Joseph, Asher and John. Joseph's will also spoke about Asher Hart as being a witness. He wrote, "To avoid a mistake my executor is Joseph Hoff (the son of Andrew and Isaac Walling (son of John) is the other meant. (last word I could not make out and think this is what was written.) If anyone has any other insight on this family, please contact me. Mel melmac7@earthlink.net

Belle was married to Elmer Elsworth Van Pelt and had 11 children. Belle died in Clam Falls, WI on 13 Apr 1933. Next I have J. Philander Hart who born about 1785. He was married to Ada Simmons about 1810. They had a daughter Ada who was born about 1812. She married Joel Brown about 1832. They had 1 son, Benjamin. Ada died in 1838 and was buried in the North Broadalbin Cemetery. Her grave was moved to the Union Mills Cemetery when the Sacandaga Lake was built. Next I have Henry Hart who was born 22 Oct 1841 in NY State. He married Emily Jane Fort on 1 Dec 1875 and had 3 children. He died on 29 Jan 1892. Finally I have a Julianna or Joanna Hart who was born 12 May 1833. She married John Low Fort on 22 Sep 1850 in Fulton County, NY. They had 5 children. Julianna died on 27 Mar 1902 in Balston Spa, Saratoga Conunty, NY. Are there any Hart researchers in Fulton County that have any knowledge of any of these families? 3. Be aware that many family crests have been created just for sales. My surname is usually shown as English with a crest that is "hundreds of years old." In reality, my surname is a mutation of the original Dutch surname Van Kouwenhoven (meaning "from Kouwenhoven"), which was adopted in the 1600's in the "New World." The heraldry on the website previously given has started saying that Crownover is of Netherlands origin, but use the same coat of arms that it did when it was "English." The majority of "Van Kouwenhoven" descendants became Conovers. The Heraldry site says nothing of Conovers being anything except of English in origin. This is a long way of saying that there are "smoke and mirrors" in heraldry. Jim Crownover- CA -- No virus found in this outgoing message. Checked by AVG Anti-Virus. 3. Dear Kate, By "crest" I suppose that you mean "coat-of-arms" of which a crest is a component. Coats-of arms were/are granted to individuals, not to families. They were/are inherited by the owner's eldest son. The rest is fiction. But you will always find someone willing to sell you a "family" coat of arms, even if your name is Johnson.
