Barbara; Try going on Ancestry.com and use the wild cards (***). If you don't have Ancestry.com, go to your nearest Family History Center (Mormon) and ask for help. Since birth records were not recorded that early you probably need to start with census and death records and work backwards. Good luck. John and Mahala are my gggrandparents. I am trying to verifiy some information I have that came from a family bible. I am not sure what part of the family it belonged to. I should have included this information when I first posted the query. Thanks to all who have responded. J.P. Hart J P Hart <jhart7842@sbcglobal.net> wrote: Who is J.B. Hart? A check of Ancestry.com has a John & Mahala HART in the 1850 census of Bainbridge, Dubois, IN with 8 children. One of their boys was a James. Might be your J.B.? John & Mahala Hart also were posted (with family) on Ancestry World Tree Project by Steve Swires Dec.2005. swires@linesat.com Maybe he knows of the Bible you refer to. James was born in Berkley, Gloucester, England and appears in Parsonsfield, ME as a school teacher. Below are some of the records I have on him. Any idea about his ancestry in England? History of Parsonsfield, ME there is mention of a James Hart who was the teacher and town clerk for about twenty years (1790-1807). He as known as Master James Hart and had 13 children. The 1800 census of Parsonsfield, ME shows a James Hart with the following dependents: 2 males under 10 ( Thomas (3) and Henry (9)); 2 males 10-16 (William (13) and John (16); 1 male 26-45 would be James (42); 4 females under 10 (Allice (1); Hannah (5); Lydia (6); Jennie (8)), 2 females 10-16 (Patty (11) and Sally (12); 1 female 26-45 would be Hannah his wife. "Abstracts of Rev War Pension Files" p. 1544 HART, James, S35390, Cont & MA line, appl 8 Apr 1818 York Co MA (ME) aged 71, in 1820 he had a wife Lydia aged 56 & a large family of children (none were named in the claim). "History of Parsonsfield" (Portland ME 1888) p. 41 James Hart, or Master Hart, as he was usually called, was one of the early teachers of Parsonsfield. He came from Epping or Newmarket, NH, about 1790, and left the town in 1807, having remained about seventeen years. He taught in the western, middle, eastern, and southern sections of the town, changing his residence to accommodate himself to his business. While teaching in the southern section, he kept his school in Jesse Wedgwood's dwelling-house, as I have heard my father say, who attended his school there when a small boy, probably about 1796. He was an Englishman, born in Berkeley in 1748, and governed his schools in the rigorous style of the school teachers of England. He used the rod and ferule freely. Few scholars dared to lift their eyes from their books, during study hours, in his school. He was not, however altogether to blame for his severe mode of school discipline. It was largely the fault of his time and his English training. Corporal punishment was then much more frequently employed in the schoolroom, in the family, and everywhere than now; and perhaps scholars then required severer discipline. Master Hart must have been a good teacher for his time, or he could not have continued his business for so many years, in succession, in the same town. After leaving Parsonsfield, Master Hart taught a while in Sanford in this county, and afterward probably moved to New Hampshire, and died there.
Hi, I'm new to this list but not to genealogy. Interested in getting in touch with Hart's descended from St. Anicet Quebec and trying to connect to the Harts of Trois Rivieres. Rick Marion

Hello! Just a quick message to wish you a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year! Best wishes, Ryan Hill. Family Archive.
Dear Santa: Don't bring me new dishes, I don't need a new kind of game. Genealogists have peculiar wishes For Christmas I just want a surname. A new washing machine would be great, But it's not the desire of my life. I've just found an ancestor's birth date; What I need now is the name of his wife. My heart doesn't yearn for a ring That would put a real diamond to shame. What I want is a much cheaper thing; Please give me Mary's last name. To see my heart singing with joy, Don't bring me a red leather suitcase, Bring me a genealogist's toy; a surname with dates and a place. May everyone enjoy a happy and joyous Xmas & New Year and be able to climb that brick wall. As the subject of Jewish HARTs from SC has come up again, I thought it might be helpful to re-post my info. The striking connections are: 1) Both my Nathan HART and Dana Stripling's Simeon Moses HART seem to have been separated from their parents as young children 2) On both families there is a tradition of Sephardic (Jews from Spain & Portugal) ancestry. NB it is only the Ashkenazic Jews (from Central and Eastern Europe) who refrain from naming their children after living relatives. Sephardic Jews often name sons after fathers etc. My cousin's wife is descended from Michael Henry (Morris) HART who was born in Georgetown, South Carolina in 1796 and was brought to Portsmouth, UK in 1798. His parents were Nathan and Jenny; they appear to have stayed in the USA. It is likely that this is the same Nathan HART who appears in Georgetown, SC on the 1790 census; who is listed as an indigo dealer in the Georgetown records; and who had a daughter Maria who died on 13 August 1793 aged 8 months and is buried in Georgetown's Jewish cemetery. Apparently he claimed Sephardi descent from Jews who left Spain for North America in 1492. Michael Henry HART married Esther, daughter of David DAVIS. He was a merchant and a tailor, and died in Portsmouth in 1858. Does anyone know anything about the ancestry of Nathan HART of Georgetown, SC; especially, anything that can trace the trail back, perhaps through early Marrano colonists of the region, to Spain? Hi Mary, Charles Hart was born in KY. Both he and wife died same day, 3 Nov 1870, buried in Weiland, TX. Children: Prior, Turner, Green, William T.(m. Mary Jane Elam), Mary Jane (m. Frederick Hill), Delilah (m. Joel Babb), Cyrus, Charlie, and George. The first three children were by wife #! a Miss White, the other children were by #2 Elizabeth Mathias. Hi Hart researchers, I am constantly seeking Hart researcher who would be willing to participate in my HART DNA Surname Group. DNA can be used to break through your brick wall. As my data base gets larger it makes it more possible to find a match with another Hart participant. Females who are in the Hart direct line of descent can not participate, but they can ask their father, brother or Hart male cousins to participate for them. Finding a match to your DNA can show you what direction to go in your paper search for your ancestors. Joining a surname project gets you a substantial discount on the DNA test. My testing company is Family Tree DNA(FTDNA). I do not profit in any way from my project. Here is the URL for the Family Tree DNA: http://www.familytreedna.com You can see the test results for the participants who have already joined here: http://www.familytreedna.com/public/HARTFamilyTreeDNAProject/ My project is also located at World Families Network: http://www.worldfamilies.net . My test results and pedigrees are located here: http://www.worldfamilies.net/surnames/h/hart/ . The prices you find at Family Tree DNA website are not the discounted surname group prices. If you have any questions please send me an e-mail. Thanks Lewis w. Hart HART DNA Surname Project Administrator

I also am descended from Judge John Hart. I have been trying to find Judge John's great grandfather who I think came from England around 1700. I have a letter written by my grandmother documenting Judge Johns Marriage to Elizabeth Casey. Nancy
