    2. Pippin, Collins C
    3. My grandfather was Charles Clemmons PIPPIN (1875-1961) from Bunn, Franklin County, NC who married Bessie Estelle HART (1879-1938) on 17 Jan. 1900. I also know that Bessie's father, William C. HART ( - ), married Annie G. UNKNOWN--beyond this, I know nothing--I am stuck dead in the water.... I've got a pretty good handle on the PIPPIN side of my family--at least back to Montford (1802), my gggf; however, I can not seem to find any references to the appropriate Hart relatives. Can anyone enlighten me with regard to ancestry of the William C. HART side of my family?

    3. Who were the parents of Stephen Hart, b. circa 1782? He married Elizabeth Hollister in Kingswood, Near Wotton-Under-Edge in what was then Wiltshire, England, but is now Gloucestershire. They named their first son Cornelius, a decidedly Irish name, and another son Samuel Cornelius. Was there a Cornelius in the family line? Have not found one on the Hollister side. Perhaps that name is the clue. Children: Cornelius b. 3 Aug 1815 Ann b. 1817(?) Samuel b. 31 May 1819 John b. 12 Jan 1822 James b. 19 Mar 1824 Caroline b. 2. Tim Hart
    3. I am looking for 2 long lost Hart cousins. I am hoping they can help with my genealogical quest as well. Rick and John Hart are approximately 45. Their father was Richard (Dick) and their mother's name was Edna. I know that they lived in South Bend in the 1950s, and I believe they later lived in Arizona. Richard was the son of Fred Listman Hart of Chicago. Richard had two brothers, Jack and George. If you know Rick and John, or even _think_ you might, please give me a shout. Thank you!

    3. My name is Patricia Fleming Frey. I am in search for personal and historical information on my maternal grandfather, Leo Richard Hart (Dick Hart). He was born on January 29, l886 in Montevideo, Uruguay. His family was originally from Germany. I do not know what city. The family either moved back to Germany or to the United States---I can find no record of this to the United States . I also know that my grandfather came to the United States sometime after 1898 and moved to San Francisco, California. He married my grandmother Mary Ann Gallagher there in 1927. The only other information, that I have located, was on their marriage certificate, where he lists his father as Carl Hart. There was no mention of his mother’s name. Any chance anyone is looking for my family? Thank you

    1. [HART-L] HART, Darby Smith
    2. Hubert Cook
    3. Greetings, Does anyone have a Hart that somehow evolved into a Smithhart?? I have found one place that lists the name as Hart, Darby Smith. Darby Smithhart, born 1759, believe NC, died 1846 KY. There are five (5) Smith "Harts" in the whole of the US on the 1790 census's. There are numerous Harts and Smiths in NC counties that I have searched, but no Smith Hart as such. I would say that the name is unique, all five of the males of 1790 census's have this name and appear to be brothers and children. Darby is a Revolutionary Soldier from a SC application. Thank you, Hubert Cook [email protected]

He also had two children listed: Doctor (age 12) born NC and Julia (age 9) born NC. I realize this isn't much to go on but I would appreciate any help. Melanie Storie

    2. HART FANS PLEASE GIVE THIS ONE A SHOT. JOHN HART IS SUPPOSEDLY THE SON OF MILES HART SR., SON OF THOMAS (THE ELDER), SON OF JOHN HART OF WHITNEY, OXFORDSHIRE, ENG. THE JOHN HART (SON OF MILES?) MYSTERY PG 1 (A THEORY BY L. HART -- PROVE ME WRONG!) 1. JOHN HART b 1759 (FROM PENSION PAPERS), VA 2. JOINED SERVICE IN 1776, BERKLEY CO., VA. 3. JOINED GEN. CLARK IN 1880 4. MARRIED MARGARET MUNDELL ABOUT 1778-1780, PROBABLY IN GREENE CO., PA. MARGARET CAME TO GREENE CO. WITH PARENTS FROM DEL. WHEN ABOUT 14-16 YRS CHILDREN OF JOHN & MARGARET HART: ANNA, JAMES, JOHN, MILES, THOMAS, LEVI AND ELEANOR. 5. APPEARED IN GOSHEN BAPT. CHURCH, GREENE CO., PA RECORDS 13 OCT 1786 (BAPTIZED WITH SEVERAL MUNDELLS) 6. MARGARET (MUNDELL) HART "CUT OFF FROM CHURCH" FOR COMMITTING ADULTERY, MAR 1795. 7. JOHN HART 1790 CENSUS, WASHINGTON CO., PA LISTS 1 MALE 16 & OVER, 3 MALES UNDER 16 & 3 FEMALES. 8. 1800 CENSUS FOR GREENE CO. LISTS NO JOHN HARTS. DOES LIST MARGARET HART, HEAD OF HOUSEHOLD, 1 MALE UNDER 10, 1 MALE 10-16, 2 FEMALES 10-16 & 1 FEMALE 25-45. 9. JOHN HART APPEARS IN 1797 HARDIN CO., KY TAX LISTS. 10. JOHN HART MARRIES ELIZABETH FERGUSON, 24 MAY 1799, HARDIN CO., KY. 11. JOHN HART & WIFE ELIZABETH SELL LAND TO DANIEL LINDER IN HARDIN CO., KY, 1801. 12. THE GRAND JURY OF HARDIN CO., KY INDICTS JOHN HART FOR THE MURDER OF USHER FERGUSON, MON 25 APR 1808. 13. THUR 28 APR 1808 JOHN HART PLEADS INNOCENT TO THE MURDER OF USHER FERGUSON, A JURY IS FORMED, COURT IS HELD AND JOHN HART IS FOUND "NOT GUILTY". 14. MON 13 JUN 1808 THE APRIL GRAND JURY INDICTMENT OF DANIEL LINDER FOR "THE TAKING OF JOHN HART'S WIFE" IS RESCINDED. 15. TUE 13 SEP 1808 THE COURT PAYS JOSEPH HART, JOSIAH HART AND DANIEL LINDER (AMONG OTHERS) FOR THE GUARDING OF JOHN HART PRIOR TO THE TRIAL FOR THE MURDER OF USHER FERGUSON. ( I BELIEVE THE ABOVE JOSEPH HART WAS JOHN HART'S NEPHEW AND THE ABOVE JOSIAH HART WAS JOHN HART'S BROTHER -- LRH) 16. JOHN HART MARRIES REBECCA (BECKET, UTSLER) JOHNSON, 28 SEP 1811, HARDIN CO., KY. REBECCA'S LAST HUSBAND WAS WILLIAM JOHNSON AND APPEARED IN THE 1810 HARDIN CO. CENSUS. 17. JOHN HART DISAPPEARS FROM HARDIN CO., KY TAX RECORDS ABOUT 1828 AND LATER APPEARS IN COLES CO., IL. PG 2 18. IN 1832/33 JOHN HART APPLIES FOR A REV. WAR PENSION FROM COLES CO., IL AND IS APPROVED FOR $80 PER YEAR. 19. JOHN HART DIES 19 NOV 1833 AND IS SUPPOSEDLY BURIED IN GREENUP, COLES CO. (NOW CUMBERLAND CO.), IL. 2O. FROM THE NATIONAL ARCHIVES, A LETTER WRITTEN BY JOHN D. RAWLINGS, 6 DEC 1879, GREENUP, CUMBERLAND CO., IL, ADDRESSED TO THE ADJUTANT GENERAL OF THE UNITED STATES, STATES JOHN HART MARRIED ELIZABETH FERGUSON THEN REBECCA JOHNSON. IT ALSO STATES REBECCA'S MAIDEN NAME WAS BECKET, SHE FIRST MARRIED AN UTSLER (LATER DIVORCED) AND THEN MARRIED WILLIAM JOHNSON. IN ADDITION, MR. DAVIS STATES REBECCA IS HIS GREAT GRANDMOTHER AND RECEIVED A PENSION FROM JOHN'S SERVICES UNTIL HER DEATH AROUND 1843. (NO RECORD OF THIS HAS BEEN FOUND -- LRH) FROM THE ABOVE, I BELIEVE AFTER MARGARET HART COMMITTED ADULTERY SHE EITHER LEFT JOHN OR JOHN LEFT HER. JOHN THEN WENT TO HARDIN CO., KY AROUND 1796 OR 1797 POSSIBLY TAKING HIS SON JOHN WITH HIM. IF JOHN IS INDEED THE SON OF MILES HART SR., THEN HIS BROTHERS JOSIAH AND THOMAS WERE ALSO IN THE HARDIN CO., KY AREA ALONG WITH OTHER HART COUSINS. HE THEN MARRIED ELIZABETH FERGUSON IN 1799. THERE IS SOME CONFUSION AS TO THE PARENTS OF ELIZABETH AS DANIEL LINDER JR. ALSO MARRIED AN ELIZABETH FERGUSON IN APPROXIMATELY THE SAME TIME PERIOD. THE MURDER OF USHER FERGUSON AND DANIEL LINDER'S "TAKING OF JOHN HART'S WIFE" IS INTERESTING TO SAY THE LEAST. USHER FERGUSON WAS MARRIED TO DANIEL LINDER'S DAUGHTER MARGARET. JACOB LINDER MARRIED JANE FERGUSON, USHER FERGUSON'S SISTER AND IT IS VERY PROBABLE JOHN HART'S WIFE ELIZABETH IS CLOSELY CONNECTED WITH THIS FERGUSON FAMILY. THE ANSWERS TO THE FOLLOWING QUESTIONS WOULD BE OF GREAT HELP: A. FURTHER PROOF MILES HART SR. OR SOME OF HIS FAMILY WAS IN EARLY GREENE CO., PA. B. WHAT HAPPENED TO ELIZABETH, JOHN HART'S WIFE BETWEEN 1808 AND 1811? C. DID JOHN AND ELIZABETH HAVE CHILDREN? IF SO, WHERE DID THEY GO? D. WHO WERE ELIZABETH FERGUSON'S PARENTS? E. WHY IS THERE NO WIFE MENTIONED IN JOHN HART'S PENSION PAPERS? F. IF REBECCA (BECKET, UTSLER, JOHNSON) HART COLLECTED A PENSION FROM JOHN'S SERVICES, WHERE ARE THE DOCUMENTS? OF COURSE, THERE ARE MANY MORE QUESTIONS THAN THESE BUT ANSWERS TO THESE WOULD BE A TREMENDOUS HELP. ANY INFORMATION CONFIRMING, DISPUTING OR ADDING TO THE ABOVE WOULD BE GREATLY APPRECIATED. 3. Henry Hart of Fayette County Henry Hart Sr (1745/50-1814, Kentucky) lived Menallen twp, Fayette co, m Mary Broughton/?Bratten (1749, Md-1785/6, Penna) and had: Richard Hart married Mary Teats/Deats (1/31/1797), daughter of Micheal and Catherine Teats/Deats (Nelson Co, KY Bonds, Marriages, and Consents, 1785-1800, Nelson Co Genealogists). Sophia Hart m (9/19/1797) Richard or Cephas Simmons, son of Jonathan Simmons m Elizabeth Childs. Lydia/Liddie Hart m (1/1/1793) John Lewis Duvall, son of Lewis Duvall and Margaret Driscoll of Westmoreland Co; Elizabeth Hart m (bond 4/7/1795, m 4/15/1795) Robert Samuels, son of Richard Samuels; witness to consent of the marriage, Robert Hart (Bullit Co, KY, Marriages 1797-1876, Joyce Lindstrom, 1988). Henry Hart Jr (3/30/1785-12/16/1852) m (1805) Rachel Hamed (11/2/1788-12/27/1849). John H Hart (Who Was Who in Hardin Co, KY) states that Henry Jr was twelve in 1797 when the family moved to Bullit Co, Kentucky. William Keith married Dorothy Hart, widow of Henry Hart, in 1813 in Nelson County, Kentucky. The 1772 Tax list for Bedford County Pennsylvania records Henry Hart as single. He appears in 1773 on the Westmoreland Co tax lists as living in Springhill Twp (Penna Archives, series3, vol22, p42). Henry Hart signed the Westsylvania Petition along with Charles Broughton/Bratten, John Broughton, and Lewis Duvall (Papers of Continental Congress, No48, Folio 251-6, p89-96). Henry Hart appears on a miscellaneous list of militiamen who received certificates/pay vouchers in the First to Fifth Battalions of the Westmoreland County Militia for participating in Col William Crawford's Sandusky expedition. The 1782 expedition during the French and Indian War ended in defeat; the eighteen companies were routed and a number were captured and tortured. Crawford was burned at the stake. John Hardin, who had served as a lieutenant in the 8th PA Regiment earlier, commanded one of the companies. He became a militia colonel in Nelson Co, Kentucky, in 1789, and was murdered in 1792. Hardin County, Kentucky, formed that year, was named for him. Henry Hart is probably the same who married Elizabeth Broughton/Bratten, a widow with three children: Charles Broughton; Mary Broughton m Strain; and Nancy Broughton m Strain. Land records show that Henry Hart held 187 acres (patent 3/7/1785, survey filed 12/23/1785, Fayette Co Deed Book P, vol4, p36, Fayette Co #10, Land Office, Harrisburg) called "Hartsburg" on Dunlap's Creek in Menallen Twp, Fayette Co, which included 6% allowance for roads, adjacent to Tunas Newkirk. Henry Hart appears on Fayette tax lists in 1785 and 1786. Henry Hart, yeoman, and Elizabeth Hart of Menallen Twp deed part of his grant to Margaret Sturgeon (widow) of Menallen (Deed A:253-4, 4/14/1787). He appears on Nelson County, Kentucky, tax lists 6/10/1788. Henry Hart then appears among others on a 11/3/1788 petition to the Virginia legislature for land in Bardstown (Descendants of Henry Hart by Don Hart, 1986). Henry Hart appears (1798) on Bullitt Co tax lists with 400 acres on Long Lick Creek, adjacent Jacob Beeson. Henry and Elizabeth Hart are named as heirs (9/16/1803) of Charles Broughton/Bratten, deceased. Henry Hart filed in Bullit Co (Will A:40, probated 3/10/1806): I, Henry Hart, am to be maintained by my son Henry as long as I live. All my lands, stock and moveables to him. He is to pay my debts and pay 30 pounds to every one of his sisters (Liddy m John Lewis Duvall, Elizabeth m Robert Samuels, Sophia m Cephas Simmons) and brother Richard. Witnesses are Dan Grable, John W Hundley. In Bullit County Henry and Dolly Hart deed 100 acres on Crooked Creek to Richard Hart (Deed B:275,26:11/26/1808).

    3. I recently subscribed but have yet to receive any messages on Harts. Is there a problem? I'm looking for the forbears of George Harrison Hart (my g.grandfather) who married Emma Kirby. I suspect George came from western PA possibly Greene Co. or Fayette. My problem is that I have not even a scrap of evidence that links him to any other people. My only hope at this point is to find him on someone else's family tree somewhere.
