There was 1 Hart who was a Cherokee that were listed in Starr's Cherokee genealogy of Old Cherokee families. The index is located at http://members.aol/com/rarebk Once at the site, go to BOOKLISTS, and then scroll down til you see the Starr book listed, and invoke from there. Also at the site is the 1835 Cherokee census, a Cherokee genealogy 'how-to'tutorial, and many other sources, to include rare and old books dealing with history and genealogy. I am passing along a letter received from another mailing list, along with my experience with ROOTS WEB. Hope you do not mind, and you will all help out. :) I have been a supporter of ROOTSWEB ever since the switch over from the university servers. I have never regretted one penny I have sent to help with this project. Roots Web has brought me into contact with several of my cousins as well as allowing me to get to know many people that I can honestly say I love like "real" family. Our DRAKE list owner Barb, being one in this category. :) I do hope you will all think about supporting ROOTS WEB with just a few dollars. Does not have to be a lot, but if the thousands of people using the service sent 5 bucks it would add up. :) Thanks, Lynn **************************** Greetings to All, As most of my list members know I seldom comment on RootsWeb or on individual messages on the list. The following I feel is worthy of sending to my lists. I was on several of the Lists when Meiser was Spammed out of existence. RootWeb was gracious enough to take in all of these lists. Nothing of this magnitude comes without a large investment, therefore I have been a Proud Sponsor of RootsWeb since I started my own lists a couple of years ago. Please review the following and Help if you would like to Keep RootsWebs Services available to all. I hope all are having the best of all the Holidays where ever you are. Donald, Listowner - Schleswig-Holstein-Roots-L; Derr-L; Shatto-L, and Shade-L ****************** << Please check this out and help if you can. Thanks, Mike Simmons- Proud sponsor of Rootsweb Here's a letter written by one of the founders of Rootsweb outlining the current situation: My friends - I generally do not bring you news about RootsWeb, whose servers house some 4000 mail lists, including this one, because I know you all get the RootsWeb Review about once a week, which pretty well covers what is going on within RootsWeb. As most of you know, RootsWeb was created by, and is "owned" by Dr. Brian Leverich and his wife Karen Isaacson, both superb computer people and genealogists. They created RootsWeb and they have funded 90% of it out of their own pockets since its creation. This means that they have a houseful of computer equipment, as well as other equipment in a hub elsewhere, that runs all of these lists, as well as web pages and other items for the USGenWeb - the effort is huge and growing by leaps and bounds. However, their corporate sponsor, Palladium, has disappeared into a merger with another company, and that funding has evaporated. It seems unclear whether any other corporation will step forward to help underwrite these huge costs. In the message which Brian sent to the listowner list, he makes the first mention of danger to the whole RootsWeb concept. He is rarely pessimistic, and if he is concerned, then we all need to be concerned. He finds it particularly depressing that only a small percentage (2%-6%) are helping to support RootsWeb in any way, even though there are literally hundreds of thousands of people regularly using the mail lists and the other web pages and items which RootsWeb hosts. You can see that he has taken out a $25,000 loan just to try to keep the equipment growing with the needs of RootsWeb. The bottom line is that if we, as users of these RootsWeb services, cannot help with a few dollars (and it does not have to be much at all, if we all get involved) in support of this fine group, we are in very real danger of losing these mail lists and literally hundreds of web pages of genealogical material(including the JP Images Page and many, many others)that is today available. Please give this some thought, and see if you can find a few dollars that you could donate to RootsWeb to keep this effort alive. I have long said that Brian and Karen cannot forever continue to incur financial hits in the range of ten of thousands of dollars at a time, and still be able to keep RootsWeb alive. Take a look at: http://www.rootsweb.com and you can see how to donate if you wish to do so. I urge you to consider it. It is a great investment. Let's see if we can make it a merrier Christmas for Karen and him and for online genealogists everywhere. ==== Mailing Lists ==== Please do not submit virus alerts, chain letters, or other off-topic material to the list. Vulgarity and personal attacks on other list members are also unwelcome. >> ******************************** END ************** The best to all thought the coming years, Donald, Listowner -- * [email protected] Researching: DRAKE, HULSEY, SHOCKLEY, ROGERS, BAIN. --

I just posted the Marriage Records for Hart, Holmes and Harty on my web site today. My person is green! My line ended up in NJ and PA. Trying to tie the lines together. These records are from the Aghada Parish in County Cork. I moved the Records under "Irish Records". Still have the Holmes births to do. Hello Tanya, It is okay to be confused! For you and any else interested, I found the following which might help you in you GIST and maybe HART connection as well. From what you've posted you may be following the same Christopher GIST. David Moore Gist Family Home Page http://www.familytreemaker.com/users/g/i/s/David-M-Gist/index.html David Moore Gist [email protected] "I am researching particular lines of the GIST family originating with Christopher GIST who settled in Baltimore Co. MD about 1682. My branch of the family moved westward from Maryland to Virginia, then Kentucky, Tennessee and finally north Arkansas. I will be adding a chart to this page in the near future. Other families of interest are MOORE, MOSS and PINKSTON that settled in north Arkansas in ca 1850's." Now on some of your other questions. These ARE two separate Henry's in the information you have presented. Henry GIST and Henry CLAY. Henry CLAY did marry Nathaniel HARTs sister Lucretia HART. Since we last "talked" I have checked through some of my HART "stuff". The source you sited may have listed Henry "Clay" GIST (son of Nathaniel, brother to Anne who m. Nathaniel HART) with the incorrect middle name. I "think" that his name should be, Henry "Cary" GIST, not Clay. I don't have a copy of this source, but it is.... "Maryland Genealogies from the Maryland Historical Magazine, Vol. 2," Indexed by Thomas L. Hollowak, 1980, pgs. 504-512. MORE HART/GIST/CLAY, Etc. connections!! Now not to confuse you, but ... I believe that a grandson of Henry CLAY & Lucretia HART, Thomas Hart CLAY, (son of Thomas Hart CLAY & Maria R. MONTELLE) married Annie GRATZ, daughter of Benjamin GRATZ and Anna Maria BOSWELL. Now could ANNIE GRATZ, also a descendant from the GIST family? Sorry I don't have all these "connections" worked out, but the GIST descendants you listed, do seem to have some type of an association with the HART family and/or other famillies this HART family is associated with in Kentucky, to name a few.. BLACKBURN-BLEDSOE-BOSWELL-CLAY-GRATZ-CHURCHILL-SHELBY. I hope this helps some. Happy Holidays! Barb Johnson Seattle, WA. [email protected]
I just put a lot of information on line which includes a fair number of Hart ancestors. Please check out the site; let me know of problems or errors in information. Thanks, Ron Hall http://www.geocities.com/BourbonStreet/Quarter/5221/
My great grandmother was Henrietta Hart(married to Wiley Forson)and Henrietta's mother was Mary Virginia Hart. I do not know Mary Hart's parents' names. Would very much appreciate any information anyone has. My mother was a Forson. I have back to my great great great grandfather on that side. Anyone have anything further back would be appreciated.

I just got back from Ireland. I collected Hart/Harte birth records from County Cork, Parish of Aghada. I have posted these records on my GeoCities web site. The child's name, Parents name and Sponsors are given. The wives maiden names are used to help show family connections. I copied the records as they were written. Different spellings were used for the same person. My one record is in purple. I haven't been able to figure out all the relationships. According to the Parish Priest, the families are grouped together. The fun part is figuring out siblings! Please let me know if you connect with any of these Hart's! Dear Betty, I noted Hart and McCray among the lines listed for you. In the 1850 census of Mercer County, Missouri, is the family of John Hart, 39, b. NC, and his wife, Rachel, 21, b. Tennessee (she was his second wife). Children listed were Peter, 19, Daniel, 17, Hugh, 14, Elisa J., 13, (all b. Illinois), Frances, 3, and John, 8/12, (both b. Missouri). Also in the household was Martha McCray, 54, b. NC. Have info on John and his ancestors but have never placed Martha. John's first wife was Permelia Ann Cain and Rachel's maiden name was Davis. If these names are of interest to you in your research, please let me know. Would appreciate hearing from you about your Hart line. Does anyone have advice on genealogy software? I'm currently using Ultimate Family Tree from Palladium, but I'm frustrated by it's constraints on reports. I want to be able to print large wall charts of all 4 sides of my family (grandparents), or at least be able to show siblings on all generational levels, and siblings children, etc. (i.e. cousins). I also want to be able to include graphics, photos, color, and produce Web pages from the software. It seems the best software for what I want to do is Reunion, but that's for Mac and I'm PC-based. They now have Generations Grande Suite, which was bought out from the same people who do Reunion, and I'm thinking that might be the one. Anyone have any experience with Generations? Thanks. Obtained the following article from PERSI. Was not my Charles Henry Hart, but thought someone else might have a connection. The New England Historical and Genealogical Register, 1921, Volume LXXV "CHARLES HENRY Hart, LL.B., of New York City, a corresponding member since 1866, was born in Philadelphia, Pa., 4 February 1847, and died 29 July 1918. He received his bachelor's degree in law at the University of Pennsylvania in 1869, having been admitted to the Pennsylvania bar 18 November 1868, and he practised law until 17 February 1894, when he was disabled by a railroad accident. Upon his recovery he devoted himself to literary pursuits, and won recognition as an expert in art and historical portraiture. In 1882 he was made director of the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts, a position which he held for twenty years, until he resigned it in 1902. In 1893 he was chairman of the Committee on Retrospective American Art at the Chicago Exposition. His published writings in the field of art, historical portraiture, and biography are numerous. He was a member of the American Historical Association, of the Essex Institute, and of several State historical societies, including the Massachusetts Historical Society, of which he was made a corresponding member in 1878. He married first, 16 November 1869, Armine Nixon, who died 11 June 1897; and secondly, 7 December 1912, Anita Beatriz Arabe. Ct. Who's Who in America, 1918-1919, pp.1207-1208, where also a list of Mr. Hart's writings is given." If anyone is interested in a photocopy of the same, please contact me at [email protected] and I will be happy to forward one to you, although it might be after the holidays. Good hunting, Linda
