Hello! My great-grandfather was Patrick J. HART (or HARTE; we always thought it was HARTE, but census records indicate HART). He was born between 1865-1871 in Gurteen, Ireland (Galway/Mayo/Sligo?) and immigrated to Massachusetts abt 1885. He died in Massachusetts Mar 17, 1911. He and his wife Margaret (Higgins) lived in an apartment in Boston at 137 W. Selden Street, according to the 1900 census. On the same census record, it shows that there is another Hart family living in the same building, different apartment. I'm guessing this could be Patrick HART's brother's family. This second listing has Michael HART as head, b. 1867, occupation: plasterer. Wife is Delia (b. June 1867), married 5 years. Children are: Michael P. (b. Jun 1887), Helen (b. Nov 1891), Martha A. (b.Apr. 1895), Charles J. (B. Mar 1897), and Albert T. (b. Aug 1899). Later, Patrick and Margaret HART(E) lived at 8 Pond Street, Milton, MA. Patrick and Margaret Hart(e)'s children were: Alice(b.1895), George(b.1897), Agnes(b.1902), Francis (b.+d.1905), Hazel (b.1907), and Joseph(b.+d.1910). Anyone have any connections, or know other Hart families from Boston or Ireland?
Hi I have received hundreds of messages regarding the discussion about me on pp50-52 of Ralph Emery's new book, "The View From Nashville." I will personally answer each message. I spent several hours on this yesterday and have already answered some of you. I am answering the replies in the order received in most cases. So please be patient. I will spend several hours each day until I have answered all of you. I do not mean to discourage those who have not yet written from doing so. Please feel free to do so, just do not expect an immediate return reply. It may take several days. I also appreciate the fact that many of you have offered to help in my genealogical research and I have even found new cousins already. I guess my post was "genealogical" after all. Many music stars have, shall I say, have less than credible reputations. I am proud to say that those stars with whom I was there by their side at the very beginning of their careers have rewarded the faith and dedication I gave to them by being wonderful examples and role models even under the spotlight of superstardom. Alan Jackson, Collin Raye(real name Bubba Wray) and Mark Miller, leader of Sawyer Brown, have thereby created a both rich and credible legacy for their own descendants and have strengthened the image of country music to all of us. I am lucky to have worked with them and lucky to have began this pursuit of my roots which has led to my association with many of you. I truly have been "blessed" in this life. As a lighthearted footnote to my original posting, I would like to mention a reply that I received from Australia stating that in Australia "chasing skirts" and "chasing roots" mean the same thing. "Oh, the wonders of the English language!" Happy Hunting! Stan
My goodness. I expected a few, if not a lot, of flames. Cross my fingers, have not received a flame yet. Have instead received numerous positive replies(over 150 of them as of this writing). To those of you who asked questions, I will reply individually. To all of you, may I say, "Thank you." Some of you have asked what lines I am researching(one or two of you even wondered if I really was in to genealogy). I am a rootsweb sponsor and listowner at rootsweb of the following lists: Cornelius-L; Mabe-L; Flinchum-L; and Sloat-L. I have also recently added the GenConnect Boards on CORNELIUS and GAYLORD( hello, CT Puritans). I am ususally in the background until "behind the scenes" books such as the new Ralph Emery book disclose the efforts of those behind the stars. May I use my 15 minutes of fame to ask all of you to please support Rootsweb. If you do not know how to do that, write me personally and I will point you in the right direction. Before menitoning the lines that I am researching, I have to state that I have no financial interest in Ralph Emery's book and am just in a small part (3 pages) of the 310 total pages. The book talks about the lives of many artists and those around them. Some of you have asked me how to get a copy. Most bookstores have it and I know you can buy it online at Amazon.com. It has a 5 star rating there. http://www.amazon.com The title is "The View From Nashville," by Raph Emery with Patsi Bale Cox A few of my lines are as follows: (and, boy, do I need help on some of them) Cornelius(VA-NC-KY) Sloat/Sloot(Ontario-MI-IL-MS) Burnham(England-ME-IN-KY-NE) Kennedy(N.Ire-PA-IL) Flinchum(England-VA-NC-KY) Morrow(PA-IL) HAY/HAYS(VA-KY) Gaylord(Eng-CT-NY-MI-IL-MS) Thompson(Ire-VA-KY) Appleby(N. My earliest known immigrant is Edward SPALDING who arrived in VA 1619, survived the James Citie Massacre, and was in the census of 1623. Have many ancestors who arrived in MA and CT in 1630's. Some of them were descendants of European Royalty. As a result, I have found ancestors as far back as the year 528. Also, I have several ancestors who were "illigitimate." I guess skirt chasing is nothing new, thank goodness, or I wouldn't be here. Isn't genealogy fun? Most embarrasing? I guess it would be my Puritan ancestor, William POTTER, who arrived in America in 1635, was convicted and hung for the crime of beastiality in 1662. If you do not know what beastiality means, good! Don't ask. I do have a lot of blanks, most of those in 1700's in VA, NC, TN and KY on my Dad's side. Same time frame in Ontario, VT, NJ and NY on my Mom's side. Good luck to all of you in your genealogical quests. Better get back to my Cornealogy. Happy hunting! Stan
I am searching for any data on Nathaniel Hart (b) 1837, Wallingford, VT; (d) Oct/Nov 1894, Sioux FAlls, SD. Nathaniel married Melvina Robinson of Jamacia, VT. The family lived in the Londonderry area in VT. Moved to Boston and then toSioux Falls, SD. May have been in Iowa. Can any one help me? David D. Vaughan [email protected]
Hi So many of you have asked me if that is me on pp 50, 51 and 52 of Ralph Emery's new book, " The View From Nashville." I did not realize that there were so many country music fans out there in my genealogy world...... most of you know as a passionate hobby of mine that has become an obsession. Several of you have asked me to "let the list know if that is you." So, to those of you who belong to several of the lists that I also belong to, I apologize for the multiples and the non-genealogical subject matter of this message. Those of you who are not interested, please press delete now. The answer is, "yes," that is me. The full and accurate story is not told there, but at least Alan Jackson does not have amnesia like many artists develop after they become famous. It was me that Alan's wife, a stewardess then, gave the tape to while I was traveling with Johnny Paycheck on an airplane between Atlanta and Nashville. Between 1982 and 1986(the year I retired for 10 years and moved to Europe), I discovered and was the first producer of not only Alan Jackson, but Sawyer Brown, Collin Raye and the group Bandana. A heart attack in 1986 caused me to slow down and rethink my lifestyle. In those10 years three guys who used to work for me as independent contractors became presidents of major labels in Nashville and two others who used to work with me, one as a musician and another as a recording engineer, also became president's of Nashville major labels. All still have such positions today. I have recently been offered a similar position, but am trying to decide if I want to spend my music business time looking at sales charts in my office, or helping create music charts in the studio. Perhaps a combination of both would work. I am back at it now... trying to find another superstar or two, this time without all the carousing...and my heart is fine. Instead of working around the clock, unwilling to let go of the excitement being created, I now try to spread the same amount of work over a two day period. Instead of lifting a cool one, two or three during my off time, I now immediately head for the computer to check my messages from all of you. Instead of chasing skirts, I am now chasing roots. Haven't been able to get rid of my trademark pipe, however. Still smoking that pipe from early morning till late at night and taking all kinds of vitamins and minerals to try to minimize the damage caused by this terrible habit. Seems to be working, however, as the very latest tests with the very latest methods and equipment Vanderbilt has to offer shows no new problems and even a reduction in old problem areas. Hope this satisfies your curiosity about the book and what I do. For those of you who do not appreciate this message being on your genealogy list, you are right, and you should have hit the delete button by now. Any flames to me personally, please. Now all of you, one, two, three, delete. Still here? Thank all of you so much!!!!!, not just for reading this message or being curious about the new Ralph Emery book, but for assisting me in my genealogical pursuits. So many of you have been so generous with your time and sources to help me in my pursuit of my roots and attempts to learn as much as possible about the life and times of each generation. I really appreciate it. Happy Hunting! Stan
Hi, I am going to repost what little I know about my Hart ancestor. What I know is that she may have been born in Clinton, New York, and she married James S. Maxted. She had these children. Hrytle b. 1881 in Sidney, IA, Mrytle, Newton b. 1884 in Hamburg, IA, and Jennie b. 1871. Thanks to anyone that maybe able to help. Amy Martini [email protected]
I ordered the book and have given it a quick reading. Alice Smith has done the same. She is more qualified to comment. It is interesting, but apparently contains significant errors. The book can be ordered from Picton Press (it has its own web site). There is a copy of "Descendants of Lewis Hart and Anne Elliot" in a local bookstore, pub. 1923, for $37.50. I have no idea whether this book is hard to come by or at what price it should sell. If anyone is interested in purchasing this book, you could contact the store direct: Bibliomania 1816 Telegraph Ave Oakland, CA 94612 (510) 835-5733 Nancy *Hart* Servin Oakland, CA orig. from Red Hook, NY (upstate-not Brooklyn)

My gr gr grandfather was Samuel Hart and was born in Tn., he moved to Jefferson county Illinois and that is where my great grandfather William T. Hart was born. Jo, You put life in this old gal with your query regarding HART of Suffolk, Eng. My great-great grandfather was Henry Hart, b. ca 1780, Hadleigh, Sufffolk. He m. Sarah Street. Both signed the parish register with an X. They had another Henry, b. Monksley, Suffolk, who m. Charlotte Ellis in Lowestoft in 1831. A witness was Robert Hook, a hero (credited with saving 600 lives) of the Lifeboat Service in which Charlotte's brother also served They may have been in Great Yarmouth at some time, but most of my scant records say Norwhich, Norfolk. Henry, described both as a sawyer and a cowkeeper, died about 1850 and Charlotte later. Their children was Susanna Amelia, Tom, Edward, Claudius Spencer, Mary Frances and Hannah. Edward was crippled. Susanna Amelia , Mary Frances and Claudius, who became my grandfather, came to the US separately. Mary Frances m. Robert Dubois, a saillmaker, of Port Norris, NJ. She had a son Robert who had a son Robert who had no children. Susanna Amelia, a seamstress who had married Henry Jabez Strange, had four daughters before she came over planning on becoming LDS and living in Salt Lake. That didn't work out, though, and the Stranges settled in Denver where they had a store wagon, dealing primarily in leather goods. Claudius, bound out to a fishing-boat captain, caught up with them when he was 14. His story and Susanna's are utterly fascinating. They moved to southern Colorado to escape the hurly-burly civilization they thought the railroad, here in 1870, would bring. The two men operated a store and sawmill in present-day Aguilar until the Strange's moved away. Claudius, my grandfather became a highly successful rancher and businessman. Also in law-enforcement, I assume a deputy sheriff. I do hope we find you and I are kin! There are a lot of us Hart descendants, the majority in Colorado. Roberta
