    1. [HART-L] HART: England
    2. Sue Day
    3. I am desperately seeking any descendents of my grandfather, William Hyde HART who left England in approx. 1886, for New Zealand. His parents were father, Charles HART (d.1869) and mother, Sarah Anne HYDE (d.1878). They are both buried at Upton Grey, Hants. Charles was born at Orpenham, Kintbury, Berk. Sarah was born at Aylesbury, Bucks. According to the1871 Census the family states "Farmhouse" as the place of residence in Upton Grey. At this stage my g-grandfather had died (1869) and my g-grandmother was listed as "Head", farmer of 530 acres. She also had a '*' by her name which, according to the legend at the bottom of the page, meant she was deaf and dumb. She died in 1878. In the 1881 Census the place of residence is listed as "The Manor Farm". Upton Grey. The eldest son was now 'Farmer of 580 acres employing 13 men and 5 boys'. It has been suggested that he was a 'tenant farmer' - what does this mean? I have visited The Manor House at Upton Grey and ascertained that the land belonging to the House was just under 600 acres. So it seems likely that "The Manor Farm" was, in fact, "The Manor House? In both Census' a domestic servant was shown, and also a farm bailiff (g-grandfather's brother). Would a tenant farmer be likely to have this? Both my g-parents (Charles & Sarah) and their eldest son (Charles Henry)are buried in the church yard (through the garden gate) and closest to the Manor House. Does anyone know of any protocol about where people are buried in a churchyard - closest to the church, etc? Charles Henry died at Reading on January 28, 1907 aged 53. Other known siblings are Mary, Anna M., Joseph Elliott (a wine merchant) and Kate Emily (the youngest, born in 1869). I am really anxious to find some living relatives and would be most grateful for any help. -- Kind Regards Sue Day Wanganui, NZ

    1. [HART-L] John Hart, the Signer
    2. Ron Strout
    3. I am looking into the ancestry of John Hart, who signed the Declaration of Independence. Information that I currently have states that he was born in Stonington, CT about 1712. His parents were Edward hart and Martha Furman. His grandfather was a John Hart who settled in Newtown, LI, NY early in the 17th century. I also have information that says Deacon Stephen Hart may have had two brothers....Edmund Hart of Westfield MA and John Hart of Marblehead & Boston, MA. Might this John Hart of Boston be the John Hart who moved to Long Island and was the Grandfather of John Hart the signer? This is all presumption. I am looking for any information that might support it, add to it, or firmly deny it. Any help will be appreciated. I am working on the Hart line as part of my daughter-in-laws family history. 3. Does any one have any information on a William H. Hart, who was listed in the 1850 census in the town of Montgomery, County of Orange, NY? He was listed as a Episcopal Clergyman. I can not find a Episcopal Churche in Montgomery at that time, so I believe he was a Methodist Episcopal Clergyman. He was 60 years old and was born in CT. His was Maria, age 58, born in NY. They also had a son, George, age 14, born in NY. Thanks Mel

    3. My Hart family line begins with Mary Ellen Hart marrying Clinton DeForest in 1848. In Sept. 1868 they were living in Honey Lake (now Susanville), California, when their daughter Sarah Elizabeth married Cyrus Charles Lawson. Since this is all I know, if any Hart family descendants are seeking their own history and come up with similar dates and locations, I would be very grateful if you could share what you have with me. I am very interested in any information about Mary Ellen but also about Sarah Elizabeth too. Sarah Elizabeth Lawson is buried in the city cemetery at Jordan Valley, Oregon. She died in 1925.
