Walter, I wish I had more information. But, I don't. All I have is John Hart m. Mary (?) and had son William J. Hart (believe J. to be John) WIlliam was born around Feb 1847 in Concordia Parish, LA. No birth certificates until 1916, and I can not locate a bible record. William eventually moved to VA and married Nancy Jane Fultz. They had one son James W.E. Hart (believe W.E. stands for William Edward). James married Malinda Frances Winegard. The marriages of William and Nancy, and James and Malinda took place in Rockingham County, VA. I do know that William left VA in 1871 to do a painting job in NC and according to divorce papers filed by Nancy never returned. I was told by my Aunt that William did return eventually and got to know his son, James (who he had left when he was a baby, James was born in 1871), also said that William was buried in Keezletown Cemetary, in Virginia. I have not been able to located that grave, unless it is one of the unmarked graves, have not heard back from Keezletown Church as of yet, to see if William really is there. I would love to find out if William married another woman in NC, and if so, did they have children. I do know that Nancy Jane Fultz Hart remarried a Archibald Sipe and had 7 more children. And that they moved to South Dakota. I have no idea what so ever where John and Mary Hart came from. I do know that they were of Irish decent. That I know for sure. So, until I can find out if were they started from I am stuck. Penny Hart

To anyone who is interested in William S. Hart, Silent Screen actor: Willliam Surrey Hart was born 6 December 1864 in Newburgh, New York, the eldest of eight children of Roseanne (McCauley) and Nicholas Hart. He married, 7 December 1921, Winifred Westover, one of his leading ladies. By May of 1922 they were separated. Their son, William, Jr., was born (post-separation) 6 December 1922. William S. Hart, Sr., d. 23 June 1946 at his ranch in California. If anyone wishes "the scoop" to "read all about it" on William S. Hart, Sr., send $5.00 and I'll photocopy the pertinent part of Issue #5, Hart Historical Notes, May/June 1994, and mail the pages back to you. HHN is now out of copies of that particular issue. This is a 3-page article, with photos, and sources. Send to: Alice M. Smith / 349 Pretty Marsh Road / Mt. Desert, ME 04660 T-t-t-that's all, Folks!
Re Entry #7, Vol. 99, Issue 58 of HART: The World Almanac indicates that William S. Hart the actor acted under his own name. He was born 1910, location unknown, and died 1993. I recall my grandfather Truman Riley Reed Hart mentioning that he was distantly related to William S. Hart through his (Truman's) father, Willard Russell Hart b 12/25/1831 in McKean County PA. My grandfather was born in Monroe County WI 8/6/1876. I've been unable to obtain the names of other members of Willard Russell Hart's line. Any information you may have would be appreciated. Dear Marnie - It would help immensely if you could be a little more specific - there must be thousands of people with the name William S. HART out there!!! ---- Which country? When? I gather, from an answer that has appeared since, that there might be a 'famous' William S. HART (in the USA perhaps?), but your question did not mention whether this is the one concerned, and many listers may not have heard of him anyway - please think of we who are in, or researching in, countries other than the USA! Seek further information on Nicholas MICHAEL and Elizabeth HART, who lived "south of present day Petersburg, West Virginiia" BEFORE 1759 so we figure this to be a Hampshire County, Virginia connection at the time, later probably Grant and/or Hardy counties. Parents of Nicholas MICHAEL (1759-1830). Any information is appreciated and will share what little information we have. Sincerely, Robert Campbell of Belmont Shore, Long Beach, California, MICHAEL/HART descendant.
Was William S Hart his real name? Most stars used stage names. My dad was W S Hart and he always told me he was related, but I think he was teasing me because I have found no connection. [email protected]

Penny, Sorry, I made a mistake in my home page address. I left out a letter. Try: http://www.familytreemaker.com/users/m/c/m/Walter-W-McMillan-Jr/ Good luck, Walter
Penny, My Benjamin Hart arrived in Louisiana (circa 1815, St. Tammany Parish) from Georgia. His oldest son, Garland Stephen Snead Hart (b. 1798) moved to Amite Co. and Pike Co., MS in the 1830s, and Desoto Parish, LA, by 1848. I have tried to connect three separate Hart lines living in LA, in the 1840s. Each family was found in GA, in the 1810s. One family ( Jesse Hart's) was a neighbor of my gg-grandfather (Duncan Blue McMillan) in Rapides Parish, in 1840. In 1847, Duncan married Pamelia Ann Hart (daughter of Garland Hart). Jesse had family in Jasper Co. and Newton Co., TX. I have a letter addressed to Pamela Ann Hart at Big Cow Creek, Jasper Co., TX (Newton Co. was established from Jasper Co. in 1846). I can't prove any connection on these lines, but the similarities are striking. If you could post more information on your line, maybe someone can connect the dots. I have a simple home page at: http://www.familtreemaker.com/users/m/c/m/Walter-W-McMillan-Jr./ See if any of the Hart names, ring a bell. Regards, Walter
Just started researching this particular line and I don't have an awful lot but here goes. I believe that my GGGrandfather ATW Hart of Tyler Co. Texas, was the son of Levi Hart born abt.1812 in Tennessee. Eli was in Louisianna in 1843 and married to Talitha ?. They eventually had at least 8 children the last one of which I know seems to be the only one born in Texas. Talitha and the rest of the children being born in La. I know that an Eli Hart patented land 3 different times in La.(1844-1858), but have not been able to check the proper census records to see if it is the one I seek. Am interested in talking with anyone who thinks I might tie into their lines. Dee Simmons Jasper and Newton Counties, Texas

The website www.stepping-stones.com/jhart.html contains a common error: John Hart was born in Conn. As most of us know, this is not true and continues to be wrongfully passed around. Rick -- http://www.geocities.com/Heartland/Meadows/2632 Rick Wiley Diagonal, Iowa 50845
