Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/yhh.2ACIB/16.1.1 Message Board Post: Fortunately not all the Harrowers disappeared from Alva. My father Alexander was born there and his mother's ashes are scattered in Alva Glen. There are quite a few still there in the Alloa, Tillicoultry, Cambus area all fairly close to the William Wallace monument near Stirling. I would suspect the scattering of the clan was caused by the premature arrival of the rent collector....

Thanks for that very interesting info.. A Harrower in the Civil war...that will be great news for the Harrowers over here in Sydney...99% of us are related here.. our research only goes back to Scotland, Alva Glen. Harrowers still live and work there...evidently there was a mass exodus from Scotland with the Harrowers splitting up. half to the USA and the others to Australia. We were told this from my Grandfather, born William Hutton Harrower 1890.. My Father was John Raymond Harrower and I am John William Harrower. If you get any further info on the Civil War ..We would greatly appreciate it..also where do you fit into the Harrower clan?? Regards... John

    1. [HARROWER] Resource Centre
    2. David M Paterson
    3. Hi All. This concerns a 'Resource Centre' I've set up, using an MSN Community Group for the moment but with plans for a full and professional site in the not too distant future. This will be of particular interest to those among you who have Scottish Ancestors who migrated to Canada. For those that this does not apply to, sorry, but you would be welcome to have a look if interested. The site in question is "under continual construction", but may offer something extra to help you with your research. It is not, I repeat not, an alternative to your Rootsweb List. The url for site is - ScotsinCanada@groups.msn.com My apologies for duplicating what some of you may already know. Thanks, David. This email was scanned with Norton Anti Virus 2002.

    3. Hi list, I am from the Perth, NY Harrower family although I do not live there now. Is there anyone else out there with Harrowers from the greater Albany area? I seek linkage to the ancestor who came from Scotland. Peter Harrower? my line is: Ruth Vera Harrower (1892-1985) Walter John Harrower (1863-1949) John B. Harrower (1813-1890) born in Perth, NY- married Sarah Marie Phillips (1820-1910) in 1843 Berne, Albany, NY the rest I am not sure of. There seem to be many Peter Harrowers in the area. Frank F. Soule

    1. [HARROWER] New Lister - Harrower list
    2. Frank F Soule
    3. Hello Listers, My paternal grandmother was Ruth Vera Harrower (1892-1985) I am interested in tracing her line back to Scotland. Her grandparents, John B. Harrower(1813-1890) & Sarah Maria Phillips(1820-1910) were from Perth, Fulton Co.,NY (John) and Berne, Albany Co., NY (Sarah) They were married at Berne in 1843. John was born in 1813 and I am not sure who his father was. There were several Peter Harrowers in the Albany, NY area in the late 18th and early 19th centuries. One possible ancestor is Peter Harrower born 7 June 1759 at Cleish, Kinross, Scotland and his father was John Harrower married to Margaret Thomson. I would like to link the scraps that I have. I did have some information but a computer crash wiped that out and I have to start all over again. Any information would be helpful. Thanks, Frank Soule
