    3. Your message much appreciated. I have known someabout John Harrison the inventor of the chronometer and a bit about Harris Island, but I suspect that some of my information might be wrong. Maybe you can clarify. There are instances in Harrison research in the US where the names Harris and Harrison are used for the same persons. No doubt some of this in the old records are the goofs of the one recording the deed or census or such, but others come from a Harris yet call themselves Harrison as if they are logically Harrisons since they are sons of a Harris. I have heard an explanation that perhaps they were originally from Harris Island where there was a tradition that those on the island were named Harris but those who left the island automatically ca,,ed themselves Harrison, meaning "son of Harris Island". Is there validity to this explanation? Also, we tend to think of Harrisons as English though from an area very close to Scotland, yet we think of Harris as Scots. Any explanation fro this?
