    1. Our Name
    2. John Harrison
    3. Hello, my name is John Alexander Harrison, and i come from Scotland. Located off the north coast of Scotland, is small Island called, Harris. This island is known for producing the woven fabric commonly known as tweed. ( Harris Tweed ) Harris was the name given to the people with the ability to weave. If you have read the book Longitude, you will know that John Harrison wove together the imaginary lines of longitude with the lines of latitude, with his invention of the chronometer. You will also know that he didn't have much faith in the so called trusty church, and it wasn't until a madman was on the English throne, that justice prevailed in John's favour. If you already know the ancient family moto of the Harrison household, "VINCIT QUI PATITUR," (latin) - meaning " He conquers who endures," you may find that John Longitude Harrison, was one man who knew exactly why he was on this earth, and a man that knew exactly what he was doing. His biggest problem was finding someone as trust worthy as he. Did you know the the name John means, " The Beloved Son of "? What is it that makes your world go around? Longitude was the first book that i ever read from cover to cover. I was searching through the pages of history, searching for someone that resembled myself and the qualities that i posses. I was born in 1967, and when i was a teenager at school, i was a straight A' student in woodwork, top of the metalwork class, and when i left school i went on to train as an engineer as well as a joiner. All this time, i was teaching myself to play musical instuments, and paying particular attention as to what was going on in the world around me. It's a funny old world that we are all living in. The greatest problem that the people in the world have, is not being able to play in time with each other. On the stroke of midnight, on the 31st of December 1999, half of the civilised world will be looking at their watches, counting down to the exact second that time moves forward into the new millennium. Most of the people looking at their watch, don't know where the brains behind their portable precission timepiece came from, and if a man called John Harrison were to ask them for a few seconds of their time, experience tells me that they would tell him to get lost. Thank you for your time in reading this. Thank you also for kepping the name alive. Yours Sincerely John A Harrison ( The Beloved Son Of The Great Weaver)
