Lucinda Harrison was born 17 Feb 1855 at Mills Spring, Wayne Co, KY. Parents unknown. She married young to Jacob Elder of IN and they had two sons: Noble Butler Elder and John William Henry Elder. The family lived in Clinton and Miami Counties of Indiana, possibly other places as well. They were divorced about 1880, although these records have not surfaced. She later appeared in 1903 in Oakland, CA where she opened a maternity hospital, which may have later became a nursing home - and she also became a successful businesswoman involved in real estate and insurance. She died in Nov 1914. She may have had a sister named Leonora. I found a Leonora Harrison who married a Mr. West at Wayne Co, KY in the early 1870s. What brought her to California? Where did she get the money to build her hospital? Was she, as family tradition insists, related to the Presidents Harrison? Who were her parents? I've been told the courthouse burned and have not been able to locate her on any census record. Does anyone recognize this family?
