Hi Pat! LtCol LaRue Harrison (born in New York state?) commanded the Union cavalry unit that occupied Fayetteville, Arkansas for the last couple of years of the WBTS. He remained in the area in business for a few years after the war. He had been trained as an ingenieur (at Cornell?) prior to the war. A search of the OR using the keywords "Harrison" and "Fayetteville" ought to be productive. The town of Harrison, Arkansas is named for him because he laid out the grid upon which the initial lots were based in the years immediately following the war. My memory says that town establishment was in connection with some railroad that he was involved with, but I'm not sure about that. According to a elderly friend of mine who is a knowledgeable local historian, LtCol Harrison's brother was in the same cavalry unit in Fayetteville and also made his home in Fayetteville afterwards. He (the brother) lived to some ninety years of age and died in Fayetteville. My friend recommended that you check with the Washington County Historical Society, 118 East Dickson Street, Fayetteville, Arkansas 72701 for further information about LtCol Harrison. --- Robert W. Marcus (b. 1829; d. 27 Oct 1890, in Washington, DC) was apparently married to Mollie. He served as a Union soldier in Illinois, Arkansas, & Missouri during the Civil War & lived in Washington, DC, from 1874 to 1890. Does Marcus sound familiar to anyone? I'm hoping to find out more about his parents & wife, as well as any children. I'd be grateful for any information anyone can give me, & will happily share the information I've found. Thanks.
