Cedant of Parsippany, NJ, the parent company of Halbert's (publisher of those pseudo-genealogy books) is closing down Halbert's, effective 30 September 1999. Cedant blames "competition from the internet." Hallelujah and rejoice. No longer will unsuspecting novices be ripped-off by such deceptively dishonest practices.
