C.) newspaper Death of Mr. Hornsby Was unable to survive the shock of a surgical operation Yesterday afternoon about 2’clock at his home on Richland, between Main and Sumter streets, Mr. L. F. Hornsby breathed his last. Mr. Hornsby had for sometime been suffering from a growth of some kind inn his side(?). It gave him much pain and recently the trouble became so complicated that it was decided to remove it by surgical operation. The operation was performed by some six or seven of the best physicians in the city. Upon opening the side(?) it was found that the condition of the sufferer was much worse than expected. He was unable to survive the shock of the operation and died about a half hour after it was over. Mr. Hornsby was one of the head carpenters at the Southern railway shops and was well and favorable known in the city.
