If they died after Social Security went into effect, I would start by searching the SSDI - Social Security Death Index. If you find them there, with the info they have you can send for their original Social Security applications that will have a lot of info on it. I just did this for my stepfather, Wm Hugh Harrison, I sent a check for $7.00 with my request which you can print out from the site. I had a copy of the original in my hands in about 2 weeks, and the info it included amazed me. It gave me where he lived when he applied, his age, where he was born and the date, and it also gave me his father name and mother's maiden name. Until I got this document, I knew nothing of his family, since then, I have been able to trace them back another 5 generations. I don't know if this will be the answer for you, but it sure is worth considering. Good Luck, Judy Roberts
