This is a shot in the dark. My grandmother was a Bertha Ice from New Martinsville WVa. Her mother died after the childbirth of a younger sister.(late 1800) As I recall my grandmother went to stay at the undertakers home. There name was Bonner. She told me how her clothes were made from the scraps left after lineing the casketsand how she learned to play piano from Mrs. Bonner. Also there was a story about dolls in a small wood matchbox. I have no idea how long she was with these folks or any other information except she was around 9 or 10 years old . T he other fact is she later (at 16) married a Ludwig whos half brothers were Catletts. Abigail Catlett was his mother. The younger sister Missouri also married a Catlett. Any of these name familiar?
