Joseph's son, Robert, wrote his rememberances in 1898, saying that his father Joseph, originally from Newtownard, County Down, was a businessman in Belfast who was bankrupted as were may others at the end of the Peninsular Wars. Joseph sold his business to pay his debtors, then sold his small parcel of land to a brother named JOHN HARRISON in 1820. Joseph and Catherine emmigrated to Canada in 1820 on the brig Catherine and settled in Prince Edward. 5 months after arrival Joseph died of penumonina and for 5 years the family remained put and saved money until they could move to Asphodel, Peterborough, Canada.
