This is not my family, nor do I have additional info. However, I did find this for you: 1860 United States Federal Census > Missouri > Carroll > Sugar Tree 29 Aug 1860 4 Harrison Nancy 48 F Farming $3260 $2502 MO Eliz 18 F MO attended school Wm H 13 M MO attended school Nancy J 13 F MO attended school Lemasters David 12 M MO attended school George W 10 M MO attended school Ann 10 F MO attended school [The Lemasters children were the children of Issac & Jane Henry Lemasters. Isaac died in 1858] My guess is the Eliz on the above census is your Audrey Elizabeth Harrison. The curious thing (as you have pointed out) is that there is no Audrey or Elizabeth on the 1850 Census with this family - in fact, there is no child around the age of 8. Since the 1850 Census for this family takes up the end of one page finishing on the next page - I wonder if she was mistaken left off. ------------ On the 1880 United States Federal Census > Missouri > Carroll > Rea > District 157 listing of the Ferdinand Nowland family: Audrey's father is born in VA and her mother MO - this would fit the Wm H & Nancy family from the 1850/60 Census. The only females born around 1841 on this census whose father was born in VA and mother in MO are: Ann Thurlo and Laura Eads. ------------ In ancestry.com's "family data collection": Name: Minerva Jane Nowland Spouse: Minerva Jane Nowland Parents: Ferdinand Nowland , Audrey Elizabeth Harrison Birth Place: Carrol, Carrollton, MO Birth Date: November 1865 Marriage Place: Carrollton, Carrol, MO Marriage Date: 13 January 1888 Death Place: Coeur D Alene, Kootenai, ID Death Date: 9 February 1946 Name: Ora Audrey Nowland Spouse: Ora Audrey Nowland Parents: Ferdinand Nowland , Audrey Elizabeth Harrison Birth Place: Carroll County, Carrolton, MO Birth Date: 29 July 1879 Marriage Place: Clinton, Henry County, MO Marriage Date: 26 February 1901 Death Place: Topeka, Shawnee County, KS Death Date: 4 June 1962 Name: Wilford Ferdinand Nowland Spouse: Christine Esther Spencer Parents: Ferdinand Nowland , Audrey Elizabeth Harrison Birth Place: Henry County, Clinton, MO Birth Date: 25 May 1881 Marriage Place: Greybull, Big Horn County, WY Marriage Date: 27 August 1914 Death Place: Valentine, Cherry County, NE Death Date: 3 September 1939 Name: Myrtle Alma Nowland Spouse: Myrtle Alma Nowland Parents: Ferdinand Nowland , Audrey Elizabeth Harrison Birth Place: Henry County, Clinton, MO Birth Date: 14 August 1883 Marriage Place: Los Angeles, Los Angeles Co, CA Marriage Date: 13 January 1921 Death Place: Glendale, Los Angeles Co, CA Death Date: 9 January 1974 Name: Anna Nowland Spouse: Anna Nowland Parents: Ferdinand Nowland , Audrey Elizabeth Harrison Birth Place: Carroll County, Carrolton, MO Birth Date: 30 July 1874 Marriage Date: 24 September 1902 Death Place: Dallas, Dallas County, TX Death Date: 4 August 1949 ------------- I found a couple of people also researching this line for you: Donna L Connell _votersmom@aol.com_ (mailto:votersmom@aol.com) _Ancestry Message Boards - Message [ Nowland ]_ (http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/message/an/surnames.nowland/52.3) According to an affidavid I have dated August 2, 1902, from Thomas M. Clements of Wakunda, Carroll County, Missouri, he was raised with Ferdinand Nowland when they were boys, as the two were first cousins. He went on to say that Ferdinand Nowland's father had asthma and died from pneumonia. Thusfar, I have been unable to find any way to validate Mr. Clements' claim of being a first cousin to Ferdinand. Entire affidavit is as follows: "My age is 65 past; occupation farmer. I am a pensioner of the US. Was late a member of Co F 4 Pro. E MMil. Was enlisted in 1861 I think, and served until the close of the war. I know the claimant in this case. We were raised boys together. He is a first cousin of mine, but he has been gone from here 12 or 10 years. He was in my company in the service. Was he ever sick ailing or complaining in any way before the war? I do not know that he was. I have no recollection that he was ever sick or complaining before the war. I knew that he had a spell of typhoid fever in the service and came near dying. He took sick while in the service. The company was there stationed at Carrolton Mo. He was taken home while sick and came near dying. I could not tell you what year it was that he had the typhoid fever but it was along in the fall of the year 1863 or 1864. Yes, I saw him after while he was sick and I think he had Dr. Austin or Dr. Gloves [?]. Gloves [?] is dead and Austin is as good as dead. Did Nowland have any other trouble in the army? Not that I know of. Do you know whether this asthma or lung trouble and catarrh originated in the army? No I do not. The first I knew that he had these troubles was after the war . He never had it before the war that I knew of and I could not say just what time he had it first or what brought it on him. No sir, there is no lung trouble in the family. Yes sir, since you mention it Nowland's father did have asthma. He died of pneumonia. If claimant had any brothers or sisters who had it I don't know about it. No sir, I do not know what brought on his asthma and I have told you all I know about the case. I have no interest in this case. I have understood all of your questions and my answers have been correctly recorded above. /s/ Thomas M. Clements (His X Mark). Witnesses R.C. Thomas and H.L. Arnold."
