HARRISON Census YR: 1850 State: Kentucky County: Pendleton Div: District No #2 shows the Harrison's listed as George Harris 33 Ursly Harris 34 Mary Harris 8 George Harris 6 Nancy Harris 4 Burwell Harris 2 In 1860, the family of George W. and Ursly Harrison are in Pendleton Co., Kentucky, with Garrett Powell as a six-year old. They were living close by to Ursula's brothers as seen in the 1850 & 1860 census. In 1870, the family of George Harrison are living in Kenton Co. Kentucky. This is where Garrett meets and marrys Laura Janes Lipscomb. Pendleton County Marriages 1799-1843 show the marriage as being George Harrison andUrsly Ann Carten. Pendleton Co. records shows the following: Harrison, Urseleman 57 f wd Pendleton Co. Virginia Carter, Samuel & Nancy Morgan Sta., Ky. 1874 Aug 07 dropsy Va Va Both parents were from Virginia; they are listed as Samuel and Nancy Carter. This means George had died before her, since she is indicated as being a widow. The marriage record of George W. Harrison to Ursly Ann Carter on December 28, 1841, in Pendleton County, Kentucky is the earliest record existent [from the Pendleton County Genealogical Society holdings – on line at: http://www.rootsweb.com/~kypendle/. The next verifiable record is the 1850 census, where we find George W. Harrison and Ursly with the beginnings of their family, still in Pendleton County, Kentucky. George W. Harrison is difficult to trace, since there are three different "arguments" as to where [states]he was born. Trying to find documents would be difficult, since we could not be positive that we would have the right person. Census Reports: George W. Harrison (abt 1817-between 1870-1880) Ursly Ann Carter (abt 1817 - 8/7/1874) 1850 Listed as George Harris [farmer] (Pendleton County, KY, 2-District) 1860 Listed as Geo. W. Harrison [farm work] (Pendleton County, KY, Callensville P.O.) 1870 Listed as George Harrison [farm laborer] (Kenton County, KY,Independence Precinct) George W. Harrison, according to the census report of 1850, was born in Kentucky. The 1860 census reports that he was born in Tennessee. The 1870 census reports Kentucky, once again, as his place of birth. However, according to his son, Garrett Powell Harrison, George W. Harrison was born in Virginia! Anyone with any information would be helpful.

My g-fathers grandfather was Creed. His father was James Chance who married MaryAnn Harrison - one of Creeds daughters. Their son, James Harvey Chance was my mother's father. We have moved to NC from Texas. MaryAnn and James are buried in a little cemetary outside of Paris Texas. I think possibly your father even contacted my mother when she lived in Houston many years ago to glean some information about Creeds family liniage. I have a paper photo-copy of Nancy Moore and may be able to add to the history. Thank you - Ellen
