    1. Fake Lineages
    2. This came to me on another Name list and I felt I should pass it on. Cherie Beware of fraudulent lineages! For some time professional genealogists and serious researchers have been aware of the forgeries and frauds committed by Gustave Anjou (1863-1942). The sad fact is that Anjou was not a genealogist, but a forger of genealogical records that have been passed on for years to unwary clients and then through researchers who believed or wanted to believe the information. They in turn republished the material and the cycle continues. Anjou produced these "genealogies" for wealthy clients at a price of around $9,000 and the client, needless to say, always received what they wanted. Robert C. Anderson, director of the Great Migration Study Project included these features of a typical Anjou pedigree in his article, "We Wuz Robbed!" which appears in volume 19K: 1-2 1991 of the Genealogical Journal of the Utah Genealogical Association: 1: "A dazzling range of connections between dozens of immigrants to New England, for example, connections far beyond what may be seen in pedigrees produced by anyone else. 2. Many wild geographical leaps, outside the normal range of migration patterns. 3. An overwhelming number of citations to documents which actually exist, and actually what Anjou says they include, and 4. Here and there an invented document, without citation, which appears to support the many connections noted above. The article includes a list of 109 "genealogies" found in the Family History Library in Salt Lake City, most catalogued under Gustave Anjou, H. Anjou or M. Anjou. In 1927, Anjou published a catalogue of 192 "genealogies," leaving many unaccounted for. If you or anyone you know, is researching any of these lines, you may have serious problems. Not only will these "genealogies" steer you into error, but genealogies that were published later and used this material for their source will be suspect. For more information, go to or send a SASE to us at The Odom Library and request a copy of the article and list of names. With thanks to The Live Oak, The Bi-Monthly newsletter of the East Bay Genealogical Society, PO Box 20417, Oakland, CA 94620-0417.

    1. My HARRISONs
    2. are from County Wexford, where they farmed at a place called Hardyglass, near Lake Tacumshin, about 20 miles Southwest of Wexford City. My Great Great Grandfather was Bengeman Harrison, b. in 1775 at Hardyglass. He married Hannagh DUFFIELD, b. 1793. Bengeman [probably spelled Benjamin today] died at Hardyglass March 24, 1852, and is buried in Ballybrennan Cemetery in County Wexford alongside Hannagh, who died July 15, 1843. They had six children that I'm aware of: Samuel Aaron b. July 25, 1823, Hannah Francis b. 1820, Susan b. 1818, and Benjamine, William, and George, all of unknown birthdates or years. I'm presuming they were married around 1815 - 20, guessing from the known ages of some of the children. Interestingly, also in County Wexford lived Hannagh's sister Martha, and she married Edward Tackaberry of Farouamille, Wexford. [I do believe there was also one other DUFFIELD sister named Susan, but have no further information on her]. Martha and Ed Tackaberry had one daughter that I'm aware of, Elizabeth Ruth, b. 8-19-1823. On April 28, 1854, Samuel Aaron HARRISON, whose training was in seamanship and navigation and who sailed in merchant ships from Liverpool to Baltimore in the late 1840's and early 1850's, and Elizabeth Ruth TACKABERRY [and supposedly two of Elizabeth's sisters and a cousin, although I have no record or names for them] sailed aboard the ship GLENLYON out of New Ross, County Wexford on April 28, 1854 bound for Montreal, Canada. My guess is that they arrived in Montreal in June of 1854. Either that Christmas Day or the following Christmas Day, Samuel and Elizabeth were married "in the farm home of Elizabeth's married sister on the Ontario/Vermont border" [according to a remembrance written by one of the family many years ago]. For a time [several years], they lived in in Smith Falls, Ontario where they ran a general store, and then in the early 1860's, they emigrated to the USA, arriving by boat in Milwaukee, and then overland to Oshkosh on Lake Winnebago, where Samuel worked for a time as a stone mason. Ultimately they homesteaded a farm in Waushara County, between Poy Sippi and Tustin about two miles from the shores of Lake Poygan, where their additional children were born: Hannah Elizabeth, b. 1856; Martha Jane b. 1858; Susan Marie b. 1860; Samuel Aaron Jr., b. 1-30-1861; George W. b. 1863; Benjamin Edward Tackaberry Harrison b. 1866, and Cadwalleder Joseph Edmund Harrison [my maternal grandfather] b. 12-22-1867. Not sure which were born in Canada and which in the USA. My interest is in locating the burial sites of Bengeman & Hannagh's predecesors, any of their descendents that remain in Ireland, and any descendents that I am unaware of in the USA or in Australia, where I understand some of the family may have also emigrated to. Any and all responses welcomed. I think that there are some of us around that may have some info on your family. My grandfather was Guy Harrison. I just recently was able to find out about him and my newfound cousin sent the info to me. Since then we have been transferred, and I haven't unpacked the info he sent yet. If he doesn't reply to you soon, I'll make sure that I get back to you. I remember some of the names, in fact, my father's middle name is Earl, and I assumed it was a family name when I read this info. If you would like to contact me personally, you may do so at <marshallbjackson@compuserve.com> BTW, were you on some of the KS mailing lists? And the city that the Harrisons were in was Vincennes. I believe that may be Knox County........going on memory here, which ain't always dependable......<G> ()~: ) bev looking for a cyber Christian retreat? Go to: www.angelfire.com/tn/shepherdsrest

    1. Rebecca J. Harrison
    2. Fellow Researchers, I have in my hand the marriage license of John W. Whitmore and Rebecca J. Harrison dated 17th April 1867, in Prince George Co., Va. Her age was given as thirty-one, which would have her being born in 1836. Now I have been in pursuit of her parents which are listed on this license as Carter b. and Mary Harrison. No where have I found Carter B. {Bassett} Harrison or Mary {Sutherland?} having any children. At this time I am unable to do any research outside of the Internet {back surgery} so I thought someone from this list would have additional info. on this family and would perhaps share that info. with me. Also, if my memory serves me right, there was a bond issued to Nathaniel Harrison, for the care of Rebecca and Victoria Harrison. I can't remember who Victoria went to live with, but I believe Rebecca went to live with Edmund Harrison at an early age. I also have some deeds on which Rebecca's name appears {she is my g-g-granny} with my g-grandad and g-granny. Hoping someone can help me out..... Patricia Kyle Nelson Stone hendge Farm Concord, Va.

    3. I have a great book called "America's Political Dynasties" by Stephen Hess and Published by Doubleday in 1966. It has a alot of information on the Presidents. Here's an excerpt from the Harrison section : " A decade after the first Harrison arrived in Virginia, probably about 1632, he ( Speaking of Benjamin Harrison ) was elected to the House of Burgesses, thus founding the longest unbroken line of politicians in American History. In each generation a Harrison would be elected to public office. The first five Benjamin Harrison's were part of the colony's ruling elite: all were elected to the House of Burgesses, one was its speaker, another sat on the Governor's council. The fifth Benjamin Harrison signed the Declaration of Independence; his son and great-grandson were Presidents; his great-great-great-grandson left the United States Congress in 1965." This book is a great resource if you can still find it ( I got mine at a book sale for $3.50 ) Another great place to look is Becky Bonner's "Harrison Genealogy Repository" at: http://moon.ouhsc.edu/rbonner/harintro.htm Slade Anderson Http://www.slade-anderson.com/ > -----Original Message----- > From: Carole Conrad [SMTP:casuco@yahoo.com] > Sent: Monday, August 23, 1999 7:30 AM > To: HARRISON-L@rootsweb.com > Subject: Presidents > > > I am interested in the presidential lines. > > carole in nyc > __________________________________________________ > Do You Yahoo!? > Bid and sell for free at http://auctions.yahoo.com
