    3. Joyous news from messages received on other lists. Cedant of Parsippany, NJ, the parent company of Halbert's (publisher of those pseudo-genealogy books) is closing down Halbert's, effective 30 September 1999. Cedant blames "competition from the internet." Hallelujah and rejoice. No longer will unsuspecting novices be ripped-off by such deceptively dishonest practices. Let's just hope this does not encourage someone else to try and fill the void. Henry Sutliff

There were 6 contenders, but the nearest with a Christening date just 11 days after your given birth date was: Samuel HARRISON - Christened 21 Mar 1821 at Ruddington, Nottingham, England If you look it up you will find details of his parents there I expect. regards Frank Skinner Ampney Crucis, Gloucestershire, England PS IGI is at http://www.familysearch.org/Search/searchigi.asp ----- Original Message ----- From: <CarolH726@aol.com> To: <HARRISON-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: 7 September 1999 01:14 Subject: Fwd: Samuel HARRISON > Hi Everyone, > > My ancestor was Samuel HARRISON bn. in England, 10 March, 1821 according to > the census and his tombstone. 1. Nimrod Harrison b.abt.1800 in Ohio
    2. Hi List! I am wondering if any of you have Nimrod Harrison in your family tree and know who his parents were? He was born abt. 1800 in Ohio. He married my 3rd G-aunt Rachel Harrison ( same surname as Nimrod's) on 18 Sept., 1823 in Greene County, Indiana. They had 2 children, Nimrod Harrison Jr. and Rachel Harrison. Rachel died in the birth of her daughter Rachel in 1829. I am trying to find out how closely related Rachel & Nimrod were or if at all outside of the marriage. Her parents were James Harrison & Mary Brice . Any of these people sound familiar? I sure would like to find out the lineage for Nimrod & also where the children ended up after their mother died. Nimrod remarried to a Priscilla J (possibly a Harrison) and had 2 more children, before 1838. He apparently left the family to work in Washington, D.C. and died in an accident. Myself and a shirt-tail Harrison cousin who actually descends from Nimrod's 2nd marriage are hoping we can get some help on him! Thanks in advance for any replies that may help! Happy Harrison Hunting! ~Kathie PS there is some evidence that suggests the the daughter Rachel was raised in an orphans home in Washington, D.C. Nothing is proved on that however.

    3. Can anyone help with these Harrisons? >From Lee, Berkshire Co., Mass births,: Children of JARED HARRISON & Mary QUIGLEY: (I guess Jared would be born mid to late 1780s) LOISA b 30 Mar 1810, in "N. Lebanon" (I assume this means New Lebanon, Columbia Co., NY, although there is a "Lebanon" in Madison Co.) MARY b 9 Mar 1812, in Oxford, NY (Chenango Co.) SARAH b 4 Apr 1815, in Dalton (Berkshire Co., MA) JARED b 6 Aug 1817 (no location given) There is a JARED HARRISON in the 1810 census, New Lebanon, Columbia Co., NY: Himself, his wife and one female child under 10. There is a JARED HARRISON (Aug 1783-8 Feb 1839) buried in Stephentown, in a private cemetery, along with several other Harrisons: Daniel Newton Harrison, b 1 June 1819, d 3 Jan 1853; he m Thursey G. Butterfield Arvin W. Harrison, 14 Aug 1847-5 Jan 1852, s of William H. Harrison & Phebe Jane Shout Orilla J. Harrison, 18 Apr 1848-15 Dec 1851, s of Wm. H. & Phebe Phebe J. Shout, Apr 1814-21 Oct 1849 Lucretia E. Harrison, wife of A.R. Harrison, Feb 1818-28 Sep 1838 Randolph Harrison b April 1813, d 8 may 1887, is supposed to be JARED's son. (According to the Stephentown Historical Society) He named his first son (b c1842 in Rensselaer Co) Jared J. Harrison. Jared who d 1839 is supposed to have died "at his son Randolph's house" According to the 1860 census, Randolph is b in NY state; But the 1855 NY State census states he was b in CT. A JARED HARRISON appears in the 1820 census of New Lebanon: Himself age 26-45 1 son under 10 2 dau under 10 1 dau 10-16 1 female 26-45, presumably his wife Is any of this familiar to anyone? Any clues will be appreciated. Patricia Van Wagnenen Harrison JKAA97A@prodigy.com 4 Sept 1999
