    1. WILLIAM BUTLER HARRISON
    2. gene harden
    3. Hi All....In John Alcock's book "Five Generations of Burr Harrison" it seems he missed a child of WILLIAM BUTLER HARRISON born 11 Feb, 1759 Stafford Co. VA and married PENELOPE RUSSELL March 8, 1783. William died in Loudoun County VA 8Mar 1835. Alcock mentions children Harriot, Thomas Grayson, Juliet, William B. Jr. and Sarah Ann Amelia, Benjamin and Alfred. But not my ggg grandfather RUSSELL BUTLER HARRISON who married MARY ELIZA WAGENER (another Burr Harrison descendent) and lived in Fauquier Co and Loudoun Co. On the 1820 census they were in Loudoun Co but both were dead by 1841 and most likely 1837 by deed records. Proof of RUSSELL BUTLER HARRISON's relationship to WILLIAM BUTLER HARRISON lies in William's will dated 1835 Will book W page 54 for Loudoun County, VA. This oversight held me back for awhile and may be holding others back. I would love to hear from anyone about this family. Children of RUSSELL BUTLER HARRISON and MARY ELIZA (WAGENER) HARRISON were..... . 1. WILLIAM B. HARRISON born Aug 10, 1816 Fauquier County VA married HANNAH E. HAYES born ca 1818 (she is a descendent of the Virginia EWELL family. 2. MARY F. E. HARRISON married WILLIAM F. PURCELL 3. JULIA A. HARRISON married THOMAS J. MURRAY 4. MARGARET HARRISON married BERTRAND HAYES (Hannah's (1) brother,) Hope this helps someone. Look forward to hearing from you..... Marianne Lefever Harden meme2@sprintmail.com

    1. Harrisons: ?

    3. Hi! Call me stupid/naive but when the first "Tell Me Your Names" request came in I never assumed the person asking was going do my research. Personally I never seem to have enough time to finish all the research I would like to do on my family, While I am researching I am always on the look out for not only my direct line but for others as well. I often run across bits and pieces of "interesting" info for others from names and places that have stuck in my mind from researching and reading the things posted by people with the same surname(s) or geographical background as my own such as this Harrison list. Now I'm not sure actually what was asked for a roll call or personal family histories..........I guess I don't really know the difference? But I do know this.......Some one will answer my question calling me stupid and that I should keep my amateurish boring questions at home and off this site!.............BUT someone will understand having not known once themselves and nicely answer my question, from above and I will have what I wanted my AWNSER. I thought what was wanted was to have more knowledge of the different people, places, things Harrison being researched by list members so that they would have things tucked away in their mind that they might later run across for someone while doing their own research. What ever the question was or was not that started everyone posting their personal Harrison histories........I thought it was great reading about everyone's different Harrison lines personal or other wise for 2 reasons: the first so that maybe I can help someone else in my searches and second because it was exciting thinking that just maybe the next post I read could be the missing family in which I have been seeking! Thank you! to everyone who replied by sending in your HARRISONS I enjoyed the reading. Jennifer Ann Bessire Harvey

    2. Hello - I'm new to the list. Looking for any family ties from HARRISON to MCEWEN in the Tennessee or Mississippi areas. The timeframes would be early to late 1800's, most probably around Franklin Co.,TN and Panola or Lafayette Co. in MS. Can anybody help?? Thanks, Bill

    3. I don't know why everyone is getting so upset over an obvious misunderstanding. We have a roll call going on now for whatever reason and there's nothing wrong with that. If you don't want to read messages RE something just delete them. There was a roll call on another list recently and I got quite a few leads from it. Karen BC Canada

    3. Little to add, but I have paid a bit of attention to Grigsbys because of a friend and colleague with whom in interned in Tulsa, Oklahoma in 1945-46. Dr. Grogsby was from Oklahoma and attended Medical School there. A real nice guy but we lost touch when I wnet in the Army and I think he went into teh Navy. I think I recall some Grigsbys in Abbevville, and perhaps Edgefield SC. sjortly after the Revolution and I think they were connected to Harrisons there. I never pursued this because I did not see any likely conenction. Since they were from Staford Co. VA and so were the Burr Harrison line. So a good bet that Phoebe Harrison was from there. On the other hand Phoebe was a name used in the Long Grey Trail famly and Rockbridge was closeby, so ??? Benjamin Harrison, son of President William Henry Harrison and the uncle of President Benjamin Harrison, was born at North Bend, Ohio, on September 8, 1806. He graduated in medicine, but he was more adventurer than physician. As a young man he was threatened with alcoholism and made a trip to the far Northwest with a French fur trader named Charles Larpenteur in the hope of overcoming the habit. He came to Texas about 1834 and married Mary Raney a short time later. He had previously been married to Louisa Bonner. In Texas Harrison became a man of mystery and controversy. In April 1836 he was captured by Mexican general Jos de Urrea, who sent him as an emissary of good will to the Texas colonists...

    2. --part1_0.58211e98.253a37e4_boundary Content-Type: text/plain; charset="us-ascii" Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit OK - I am COMPLETELY lost here. An earlier message from Emma Kay Harrison gave me the impression she was asking for a roll call. And after that everyone started posting a complete lineage of the Harrison family they are researching. Then Emma Kay sends out a message that she can't do everyone else's research for them - so I have asked the question - was the first message a roll call as I thought - or did everyone else take that message to be an offer to do personal research for which Emma Kay came back and said she did not have the time to do. NOW I am getting flammed for asking a question? 1. A Tidbit - Capt. John HARRISON - Royalist SC Rangers
    2. Hello List, Made it back from a research trip to the East Coast. Picked up some good information on my Ancestor, David DRENNAN's brother in-law, Capt. later Major John HARRISON of the SC Rangers in His Majesty's Army at Charleston, SC during the American Revolution. In an 1783 Memorial presented to Parliament he states that he was a Native of Virginia, a resident planter, before the Rebellion, of St. Mark's Parish, Camden District, SC, joined His Majesty's Troops in January 1779 at Savannah, Georgia, presently a resident of St. Augustine [British East Florida], but at the time of this Memorial, he and his family were in England, planning on going to the Bahamas once he received his just compensation from the British Crown for property, real and personal, lost to the rebels, before traveling to his plantation being prepared by his brother in-law, David DRENNAN and the slaves sent along for that work. He also states that his father (not named) was living in SC and was about 70 years of age, had given him some rich Indigo land on Lynches Creek in Camden Dist., SC and about 2 miles from another tract he owned. He had statements of his Loyalty to the King from Lord Cornwallis, Lord Rawdon, Major General Leslie and Colonel John Hamilton. However, he had taken up arms with the Americans for a time, but did not take their Oath of Allegiance. I am sending a full transcript of this Memorial to Rebecca Bonner for posting. There will also be a few transcripts of Deeds in Anderson Co., SC Pendleton District. Glad to be back. Houston Tracy, Jr.

    1. My HARRISONs
    2. My HARRISON's hail from County Wexford, IRL, where they lived on a small farm in a hamlet called Hardyglass, about 20 miles South Southwest of Wexford City near Lake Tacumshin. There, Bengeman HARRISON, b. 1775 at Hardyglass, married Hannagh DUFFIELD b. 1793, and they had 6 children as follows: Benjamine J. Harrison, m. Feb. 4, 1857 to Frances O'Connor, George Harrison [little known of George], William Harrison, who married Elizabeth Beggsbey; Susan Harrison, b. at Hardyglass in 1818, Married Edward E. O'Connor, and died May 13 and is buried in Ballybrennan Cemetery in County Mayo, Hannah Francis Harrison, b. 1820 in Hardyglass, Married John T. O'connor Feb. 4, 1856, and died May 7, 1902 and is buried at Ballybrennan, and my Great Grandfather, Samuel Aaron Harrison, b. July 25, 1823. Samual Aaron Harrison attended a "church school" near Lake Tacumshin where he studied seamanship and navigation, and later he sailed on merchant vessel's from 1844 to 1854 on the route from Liverpool to Baltimore, MD. On April 28, 1854, he and Elizabeth Ruth TACKABERRY and two of Elizabeth's sisters boarded the Ship GLENLYON in New Ross, County Wexford to sail for Canada, later arriving in Montreal in June, 1854. Of note, Elizabeth's parents were Edward Tackaberry and Martha DUFFIELD [Hannagh Duffield's sister, who had married Bengeman Harrison] of County Wexford, thus Samual and Elizabeth were "kissing cousins". Upon arrival in Montreal, not sure what they did for work, but on Christmas Day, 1854, Samuel and Elizabeth were married at the farm home of one of Elizabeth's sisters near the border of Ontario and Vermont. Samuel and Elizabeth settled for a time in Coatticook, Quebec, Canada, where Hannah Elizabeth Harrison was born in 1856, then Martha Jane in 1858. They then moved to Smith Falls, Ontario where they operated a Country Store, and where Susan Marie Harrison was born in 1860. Samuel Aaron Jr. was born in Smith Falls January 30, 1861, and George W. Harrison was born in 1863. In 1864, Samuel and Elizabeth emigrated to the USA, settling in Wisconsin on a farm between Poy Sippi and Lake Poygan in Waushara County, where two further sons were born---Benjamin Edward Tackaberry Harrison b. 1866 and Cadwallader Joseph Edmund Harrison b. Dec. 22, 1867 who was my Grandfather. Romance blossomed in the USA, where Martha Jane married Marion Eugene Bowen on March 21, 1887 in Poy Sippi; Susan Marie married William Carpenter [date unknown]; Samuel Aaron Jr. married Josephine Elida Thomas on Nov. 26, 1903 in Auroraville, WI, Benjamin E. T. Harrison married May Elizabeth Jones, and my Grandfather, Cadwallader, married my Matie J. King, who died in childbirth a few years later. He then married my Grandmother, Jennie Mae McGREGOR in Poy Sippi, WI on April 3, 1902. Their first daughter, Ruth Margaret HARRISON was my mother, b. July 7, 1903. Interested in hearing from any and all HARRISONs regarding any possible linkages or relationships to "me and mine". With all good wishes, /S/ Jim Carey Washington, DC

    1. About my research.........
    2. I appreciate all the faith some of you have put in me, asking that I research your Harrison branches. As much as I would like to, I don't have the time to answer all of your requests. When I scan through all the email that the Harrison mailing list brings - I look for certain criteria to choose what I will take on. It may be a common given name, a common state or something not so tangible. For most of the information I post here..... you can do it yourself! The sources I use most often are: www.ancestry.com www.familysearch.com www.rootsweb.com/~usgenweb/ussearch.html www.familytreemaker.com Because I work on these pages daily, I have learned the short cuts and nuances of the individual systems...... and you will also, with time! Ancestry.Com has a membership fee; however, there are many resources on their pages which are free. Also, they offer new databases for free searches in limited amounts of time. This, by far, is my online genealogy Bible. For those of you who have received info from me. I ask that you copy the material and either email or snail mail it on to the researchers I give credit to on the page. Not only will you continue the random act of kindness, but you will also meet someone who is researching the same family as you. I have been asked why I include the less obvious in my searches. i.e. All the Harrison's in a given county for a certain year. Our ancestors normally traveled in groups. It may not have been with other Harrison family members..... it may have been the wife's familial name. So, I think it is important to leave no rock unturned. Look up all the sibling's spouses of your earliest known ancestor. Groups moved together through time.......... some of my Harrison people traveled with the same families from Buncombe County, NC to GA.... and I am sure they most likely started their journeys together in VA. I am starting to believe there were only 3 degrees of separation back then! My significant other and I have posted our genealogy here: http://hometown.aol.com/toofem/myhomepage/heritage.html Of course, you will find Harrisons! Please visit and see if you can make a connection. MK (Martha Kathryn) Harrison "I had bought two male chimps from a primate colony in Holland. They lived next door to each other in separate cages for several months before I used one as a heart donor. "When we put him to sleep in his cage in preparation for the operation, he chattered and cried incessantly. We attached no significance to this, but it must have made a great impression on his companion, for when we removed the body to the operation room, the other chimp wept bitterly and was inconsolable for days. "The incident made a deep impression on me. I vowed never again to experiment with such sensitive creatures." - Dr. Christiaan Barnard
