I'm trying to find the parents of Elizabeth Harrison who was b abt 1830. She married Abraham BUCKALOO who was found in the household of his parents in Clarke Co AL 1850. Shortly after they migrated to Union Parish LA. Elizabeth was a cousin to V. Henry Harrison who also migrated to LA with his wife Martha. I surely know this isn't much but does anyone have data on the Clarke Co AL vicinity Harrison families? Thanks much Debi
Would the researcher who contacted me about the surnames Lenhart and Lainhart please get back to me? I seem to have mis-filed your message, and, therefore, lost your e-mail address. Sorry! Nancy M. Goodwin Wilmington, DE mailto:pianoteacher3@juno.com

Very interesting story about Rev. Cravvens and Col. Benjamin Harrison, in spite of the error of confusing Col. Benjamin with the "Signer". Inmy experoence, which is mostly with the Buncombe NC Harrisons, they too very often have the tale of relationship to the James River Harrisons buyt most often they say "cousin" of or "Unlce" or related to President William Harrison. Wrong of course. I have a flmsy theory that Wm Henry, while campaigning for the Presidency had a letter sent to all Harrisons he could find addressed"Dear Cousin" to get out the Harrison vote. . I have heard a story that such a letter did exist in the hands of Rev. Joseph Harrison of the Watauga Harrisons and that the letter was seen by many people, yet somehow dissapepeared. Of course that Watauga Harrison family did have a Harrison named William Henry in it. . The witness of this letter said dthat it was written on White house stationary and signed as President William Henry Harrison. I think it would e questionable that he wrote any letters as Predsident since the day of inauguration he developed pheumonia and died a few weeks later. Dr. CW Johnson
Hi All, I am wondering if this Col. Ben is the reason so many Harrisons of Rockingham line have family legends of a relationship to Ben the Signer! If anyone has any additional info to offer, please jump in and post to the list :-) this article sent in by "Diana Bennett" <bennett@npcc.net> Centennial History of Washington County Indiana by Warder W. Stevens, published 1916 by B.F. Bowen Company, Inc., Indianapolis, Indiana. The following is as copied from the book. Rev. William Cravens, Fighting Methodist (page 247) On the banks of the Blue River, in Pierce township, on a farm upon which he settled in 1819, reposes the dust of Rev. William Cravens, one of the most celebrated ministers of his day, or that ever traveled the circuit in this Western country in the first part of the nineteenth century. He was noted for his originality, not only of thought, but in his methods of presentsatellites. He had an extensive acquaintance all over this Western country, having ridden thousands upon thousands of miles during his active life, getting into the byways and out-of-the-way places, where people very rarely ever heard a sermon preached. He had friends among people who had never seen him, but had heard of his mighty power as a preacher, and was dreaded by his enemies who knew him not. William Cravens was born in Rockingham county, Virginia, July 31, 1766, in the beautiful Shenandoah valley, through which runs the Shenandoah river, so named by the Indians; on account of its surpassing beauty, the name signifying the Daughters of the Stars. There it was that in 1794 William Cravens was converted to the doctrines and tenets of the Methodist church, with which he was prominently identified in after life. There, also, in 1794, he married Jane Harrison, a daughter of Col. Benjamin Harrison, who was one of the signers of the Declaration of Independence. By this marriage he had three children, John, Benjamin and Hannah, who married the Rev. William Shanks, a noted preacher of the Methodist church, who was also quite prominent in the early history of this county. In 1800 Cravens was licensed to preach, being ordained a deacon by Bishop Asbury. When and by whom he was ordained elder is not now known, but it is supposed he received this title about 1810. Hello Harrison Researchers, Has anyone found information about a line of HARRISONS who lived in Pasquotank, Pasquotank, NC about 1770 - maybe even earlier? Two other family-connected names from that area are Herndon and Smith. The only Harrison name I have with a possible connection to Pasquotank is Polly Harrison born about 1771 who married Cornelius Herndon, born about 1768. Some researchers have placed the latter in Chatham, Orange County, North Carolina. Any information or suggestions for my further search will be greatly appreciated. Aunbibi@aol.com

There is a new list called WV Pioneers. We see it as supplementary to this list. This list is to promote the preservation and advancement of pioneer family history in an area of East Central West Virginia, including but not limited to Randolph, Webster, Braxton, Nicholas , Harrison and Greenbrier counties. We also welcome participation from the settlers' sources in Virginia, particularly Prince William, Fauquier, Botetourt, Franklin, Montgomery, Culpeper, Rappahanock counties. The principal inter-related families include - but are not limited to - Ham(b)rick, Gregory, Dodrill, Riggleman, Miller, Mollohan, Cogar, Chapman. The three moderators represent all but a couple of these families. Allied families include - but are not limited to: Boggs, Conrad, Cowger, Swecker, Hogan, Hevener, Arthur, Rose, etc. We wanted a list more confined to West Virginia than, say, the Hamrick list so some people on this list don't think we dominate it and, at the same time, wanted to include a number of other, closely related West Virginia families. Also, we wanted a broader geographical sphere than, for example, Webster County alone, though we value that list too. For one thing, this should help reduce cross postings, which have drawn objections from some on the grounds it makes their heads spin. The list will require that the individual researcher cite sources in making postings. If the information is from personal knowledge, death records, birth records, census, published or original documents, military, tax lists, deeds, please say so. We hope we can encourage the sharing of such information -Tressie Nealy (TLNealy@aol.com), and Dan Hamrick (dhamrick@neo.rr.com) two genealogists with years of research and volumes of records, have agreed to help moderate the list and advance the cause of family research. Each of us plans to continue to take part in the individual lists. You must be a subscriber to post to this list.
