    1. [HARRISON] HARRISON of Nova Scotia
    2. Derrellyn Yates
    3. Posted on: Harrison Queries Board URL: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/FamilyAssoc/Harrison?read=625 Surname: HARRISON, MASON, YATES, KING, BUNBURY, GORMON ------------------------- I would like to hear from anyone researching the following family: William Henry YATES born about 1808 in Pembroke, Island of Bermuda married on February 28, 1839 at St. George's Anglican Church in Parrsboro, Nova Scotia to Eleanor HARRISON (I believe she may have had a brother named William HARRISON and a nephew named Edgar HARRISON) William Henry YATES died at age 54 and was buried Oct 17, 1862 at Halfway River, Cumberland County Eleanor HARRISON died at age 38 and was buried on Jan. 5, 1853 at Moore Brook, Nova Scotia Their children were: 1. William Henry YATES born Nov 5, 1841 in Parrsboro, died 12/1880 in Halfway River, Cumberland County, Nova Scotia. There is no record of a marriage and no mention of an heir in the probate records. 2. Robert S. YATES. I can find no birth record on Robert. A letter from a cousin (Edgar HARRISON) in the 1890's to a brother (James Erie YATES) states that he may have moved to British Columbia. 3. John T. YATES born about 1846, married on Dec 1, 1881 to Catherine L. MASON of Greenhill, Nova Scotia (daughter of John W. MASON and Sarah ________). According to the probate records, John T. YATES died leaving behind a minor son, Gordon YATES. There is no mention of Catherine in the probate record and it is assumed she died before John died, since there was something of a disagreement among the in-laws about who would have guardianship of Gordon. 4. James Erie YATES born about 1848, baptized in 1864 at St. George's Anglican Church in Parrsboro, Cumberland County, Nova Scotia. Moved to Boston where on Aug 16, 1870 at Trinity Church, he married Elizabeth Alice BUNBURY of Miramichi, New Brunswick (dau of Thomas BUNBURY and Mary GORMON). (my husband descends from this line) 5. Mary Eliner YATES born about 1850, baptized 1864 at St. George's Anglican Church in Parrsboro, Cumberland County, Nova Scotia. Married Sept 12, 1872 to Winfield Y. KING (son of Will B. KING and Alexda______) I would be very glad to hear from anyone related to or researching any line, auxiliary or direct, of this family. I have typewritten copies of some old letters exchanged between some of the family members that might be of interest to relatives or researchers and would be glad to share the contents. If anyone has any ideas about how to proceed researching the YATES Bermuda connection, I would appreciate it very much. If anyone might have a connection for the parents of Eleanor HARRISON, I would be pleased to share descendant information.

    2. Freddie, Don't know who that Asentha was but I do have a few Assenthas. I have an Asinith Collier (b. 1 Jul 1867 in Golcunda, Pope Co., ILL) who married John Asbell. Their son Maude married my ggg grandmother Minnie Cornell Harrison's sister. Then I have a Assenth Seamonds, daughter of Joseph and Elizabeth Seamonds (of Virginia). Then I have an Assenith HENDERSON who married Robert PREWETT. They are from South Carolina and a collateral line of my Goldings and Fosters and Woods who eventually married into the Harrison line. There are a couple more Assenith's in this branch. But you might find most interesting possibility in an Asentha Forrest m. to a George Washington Daugherty. The Daugherty's connect through the Russells who married my Partons who married the Harrisons. The Daughtertys (Dohertys) were in Williamson and Bedford Co. Tennessee and then Pope County, Illinois. They may however be related to the Harrisons through another connection. The daughter of John and Annie Doherty, Mary (Molly) Doherty married a ? Bussey. That surname appears in two deeds involving the in-laws of my John Harrison (his wife was Nancy Dobbs): Bedford Co. TN Deed Book CC, page 78 - 11 May 1832. For love and affection I have for my grandson Linseley Dobbs, part of estate of William Dobbs, deceased, both personal and mixed or real to which I may be entitled to as the widow and relict of William Dobbs, deceased, it being a childs part of the estate, as long as he supports and maintains me. Signed by Keziah Dobbs. Wit: George Bussey and John Dobbs. Reg: 23 june 1832 And Bedford Co. TN Deed Book PP, page 71 - 18 Dec. 1846. Tyree D. Dobbs and Rachel Dobbs to James M. Neeley. Deed Tyree D. Dobbs of Fayette Co., Alabama and Rachel Dobbs of Bedford Co., TN, sold to James M. Neeley of Bedford Co., TN, their interest in land in Bedford Co., on east side of Sinking Creek. Borders Edward Stevenson (Stephenson). Wit: George Bussey and Jonathan Leggitt. Reg.: 24 Dec. 1846. It's also interesting that these Dobbs owned property on Hunters Creek, Franklin County, Georgia bet 1810-1815. I think searching for relations to your Moses Guest might help me pin down some of my Harrisons. 1. [HARRISON] Harrisons in Humphreys Co,Tn.1820+
    2. Freddie Tilghman
    3. April and anyone else interested. The 1820 census of Humphreys Co, Tn has Benjamin Harrison with 4 m under 10, 2 f under 10. One male 26-44 one female 26-44. Several other families of interest to me are in this census, however Benjamin is the only Harrison listed. The 1830 census has : Robert Harrison with 2 m -5, 1 m 5-10, 1 m 10-15, 1 m 15-20, and 1 m 40-50. 2 f 5-10, 3 f 10-15, and 1 f 40-50. Malachi Harrison with 1 m -5, 1 m 20-30, 1m 60-70. Only one female, a child under 5. Berkit Harrison with only one male 10-15. Then 1 f 10-15, 1 f 15-20, 1 f 30-40, 1 f 50-60. Nancy Harrison with 3m 5-10, 1 m 15-20, 1 f under 5, 2 f 10-15, 1 f 30-40. Also in this 1830 census of Humphreys Co, William Guess[Guest] 50-60 [ 3-24-1775], Mills Goodwin, b abt 1792 and married Mary Guest[ b 1797], daughter of William Guest and Elizabeth Barton. Two Goodwin daughters m Harrison brothers, children of Benjamin and Sarah Harrison. John B Guess, 20-30.[ Probably James Blair Guest {b 6-30-1809}] who m Elmina Harrison, daughter of Benjamin and Sarah Harrison The 1840 census index lists only Mills Goodwin of the above named persons. There are two new Harrisons listed, Ruben and Henry. I failed to note the age for them. My information on dates of birth for most of the above came from the census records as displayed on the Humphreys Co, Tn Gen-Web page. Hope this helped Freddie

    3. Interesting ... we have an Asenath CONDIT (two of them) b. 1787/1791 connecting to the Skimino HARRISONs (New Jersey line). Just wondering if there is any connection. Freddie, I don't have the info you mentioned on Moses Guest etc... but do have some of this HARRISON line submitted by Joseph Hammond. Can you provide details for inclusion in our database of your HARRISON line? We have Elminia b. SC but no details (she is listed as "Almina". You help appreciated. Dr. Kobler thinks Asenah who m. Moses Guest may be connected to Barzilla Harrison. We have a number of articles etc on him at our website that may be helpful. becky At 12:32 AM 5/18/2000 -0500, Freddie Tilghman wrote: >April, > You ask who Moses Guest was. 2. Freddie and other Tennessee Harrison researchers, We've talked before (I think our Mullins connect?) but noticed that you have a Guest/Harrison connection and wondered if you might know something about this: Bedford Co. TN Deed Book 0, page 141 - 10 Dec. 1821. Robert Harrison to William Harrison, 30 acres. Robert Harrison sold to William Harrison, both of Bedford Co., TN, land in Bedford Co., on waters of Alexanders Creek. Borders William Nash, Jr. and Caswell's line. 2. Ellen Robertson
    3. I am looking for information on one of my ancestors name Johnny Harrison. He lived in the Glassy Mountain distict of Greenville County. He was married to Mary "Polly" Tucker. They both were born sometime in the early 1800. They had a daughter named Margaret C. Harrison, who married Stephen Pittman. Does anyone know of a source of information for the Glassy Mountain area of Greenville County, South Carolina? I as yet, have not even been able to find them on a Federal Census report. I understand that happen sometimes, as they might not have been home when he came by, or the census taker may have not been able to find their home. I hope someone can help me with this problem. I do know that this Johnny Harrison DID NOT come to this area from Charleston. Thanks for any help! Ellen

    2. William A. Harrison
    3. Hello, all! Just a gentle reminder that I am seeking information about my ggf, William Henry Harrison, who said that he was born in Pittsburgh, Allegheny Co, PA on 22-Jan-1846. I haven't a clue as to who his parents or siblings were. Sure would like to be able to put him in a family & move on back a few more generations! Any one lost a Wm Henry Harrison? The first record I can come up with is his enlistment into the Civil War in Dec, 1863 from Clark Co, IN. Marriage followed in March, 1864 in Clark Co, IN, just a week before he reported for active duty. He returned to Clark Co after being discharged in 1865, and 10 of his 12 children were born there. The last two were born across the river in Trimble Co, KY. He died and is buried in "North" Madison, Jefferson Co, IN in Sep-1916. mrbill William A. 1. [HARRISON] Wm. Henry Harrison married Betsey Grove, PA
    2. Hi Listers! I have been searching for my gg grandfather William (Henry?) Harrison for quite some time now with no success. I have read that he was married to Elizabeth (Unknown), and I have found Elizabeth living with different children in the 1850, 1860 and 1870 census reports in Allegheny Co., PA. Then a few days ago, on the "Historic Pittsburgh" Internet site, I found a reference to a William Henry Harrison, son of James Harrison and Jennie Bell. It says that William Henry married Betsey Grove. Realizing that Betsey could very well be a nickname for Elizabeth, I am wondering if anyone here on this list is researching the family of James and Jennie Bell Harrison. Their children were: William Henry Harrison (I would estimate birth at c. 1785-90) +Betsey Grove (no children listed) James Harrison + Ann Lynch Belle Harrison +(Unknown) Dougherty Elizabeth Harrison + (Unknown) Brisbin Sarah Harrison + (Unknown) Richie John Harrison, Sr. b. May 29, 1796 +Elizabeth Muse b. June 29, 1798 James Harrison b. June 14, 1822 Mary Harrison b. June 27, 1824 +James Wilson Ann M. Harrison b. March 5, 1825 +Samuel Fields William E. Harrison b. June 22, 1826 +Margaret L. (Unknown) Walter B. Harrison b. August 2, 1830 +Mahala (Unknown) John Harrison, Jr. b. 1833 +Mary Russell Martha S. Harrison b. Dec. 20, 1834 +G(eorge?) W. Gray Fauntley Muse Harrison b. Feb. 22, 1837 Sarah Harrison b. July 19, 1839 +Joseph Dougherty The article that I read said that both William Henry and Betsey Grove are buried in Versailles Cemetery in McKeesport, which is in Versailles Twp., Allegheny Co., PA. I have two different lists of Harrisons that are now interred in the McKeesport & Versailles Cemetery, and they are not listed. Also, I have sent a cousin who lives in the area to the cemetery to hunt for them, and they were not to be found. It appears that William Henry died before 1850, as we can not find him in the census reports. Do any of the above names look familiar to anyone? I would love to hear from you if they do! Nancy M. My ggrandfather was JOSHUA PARKER WHITAKER it is his mother and father that I am looking for. Grandpa Josh was born in 1872 and died in 1931, he is buried at Fort Creek Church in Dearing, Georgia. He married JENNY HARRISON, her father was FRANKLIN P. HARRISON, she is buried at Fort Creek Church, as is Franklin Harrison. Her mother is unknown as of this date to me. She was raised by her step-mom ISABELL ISDELL, she was married to Franklin and is buried at Fort Creek also. The story behind my gggrandparents is: Grandpa Josh' mother was a full-blooded Creek Indian and she killed her husband one day when he came in from the fields. Then she took Grandpa Josh and his brother (whose name was BILLY) into the woods and hid. Well the authorities found her and the boys. They put her in an insane asylum and the boys were separated and raised by two different families. Grandpa Josh was raised by BILLY REEVES and in the 1880 census I have found him listed with WILLIAM H. REEVES and family as adopted son. If anyone has any of these connections in there family or know of any information that will be helpful please reply.
