Posted on: Harrison Queries Board URL: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/FamilyAssoc/Harrison?read=647 Surname: Harrison, Morris, Lamb ------------------------- Jeni, I am interested in your Morris line in Virginia and elsewhere. My gr-gr-gr-grandfather Morris MORRIS was born in Virginia, but was in Indiana Territory, Harrison County at the turn of the 1800s, married Rebecca Wilcoxson there in 1811, pioneered in Harrison Co., Floyd County, Indiana. He homesteaded on Richland Creek in what later became Floyd County, town of Greenville. I have been unable to trace Morris MORRIS back into Virginia. A history of southern Indiana, the area where he lived, said that he was "a Welshman", born in Virginia. I don't know his father's name, nor that of his mother. Perhaps your Morris surname could hold a clue? I would appreciate hearing from you. My Harrison connection is through my LAMB surname.
Hello out there ---- Hoping someone can help me with my search for HARRISON's in Mississippi. Specifically looking for information about a Nannie HARRISON, who was married to a McEWEN. My great grandfather Virgil Harrison MCEWEN was one of their children. I have a birth date of 1848 and death date of 9/1/1937 for Nannie and b.1846 d.1935 for Virgil's father. I know that Virgil's family was in Panola and/or Lafayette counties of Mississippi in 1881 because that's where he was born in that year. Can anybody help?//// Much thanks .... Bonnie, or Anybody, I am looking for information on John H. Harrison. He was born in South Carolina around 1827, a Creek Indian named Mut-tea-gar. He moved to Floyd County, Georgia sometime around 1840, he is on the Federal Census of 1850, but not as a Indian. He had land given to him by the government in Lowndes County, Alabama in 1853. He was married to a woman whose last name was "Tucker". Althought, she was called "Polly", I do not know that it was her real name. "Polly" is what our family has always called her, yet, I can find NO RECORDS of a Polly Tucker. It is possible that she was Native American, also. I do not know if they were married in South Carolina, as it is believed she was born in Georgia. John may have served in the Civil War as a private in Company H, 15th registment of the Mississippi Infantry. His pension records are from North Carolina, dated 1865. If anyone has information on this man and his family, PLEASE, contact me. He was my GGGGrandfather. His family moved a lot in order to avoid being forced to a reservation by the government. Thank for any help! Ellen

Hello! Just thought that I would let you all know that I went to the reunion of the children of Matthais Gabbard (Ted) Harrison and Bessie (Rose) yesterday at Boonesborough , Kentucky. All were doing well! I also went to the Fort and got pictures of the plaque of the early settlers there and the Early Settlers Book at the Gift Shop. It was a wonderful day I saw cousins I hadn't seen since I was a little girl. Well have a great day! Joy E. Carpenter

Posted on: Harrison Queries Board URL: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/FamilyAssoc/Harrison?read=640 Surname: Harrison, Gooding ------------------------- A 1912 DAR application by Mahala Gooding Wilson gives Nancy Ann's (and siblings') father to be John Gooding of Jones Co, NC but this is doubted by searchers I have corresponded with. Daniel of Jones Co, known son of Aaron Gooding and grandson of Nathan Godwin/Gooding, has been "taken" as most likely but no documention has been found so far.
Bill, I'm not sure exactly where in Mississippi Benjamin Harrison was born. What I have is a line that I got from another man on line. When I went and checked the 1870 Alabama Jefferson County census, it agreed with the most of the information that he gave me. It just couldn't tell me anything about Sarah Baxley's first husband, which would have been Benjamin. I believe that the man I spoke to about this said Lowndes County, but I have reason to believe that they might have come from Noxubee County before that. Lois
Hello Susan, Carrie & all, Just jumping in here about William Henry Harrison, with the amount of siblings and aunts and uncles he had it is very possible that many of the Harrison descendants nowadays are cousins to him. I am related to him by the fact that he is my 5th great-granduncle, his sister Ann Harrison being my 5th great-grandmother. Also he is my 1st & 3rd cousins both 7 times removed. this by virtue of the fact that his father's brother, Henry Harrison is also a direct ancestor of mine. I am sure that many of you are cousins of some kind. Thanks, Beth suntanr2@worldnet.att.net
Hello Carrie and all, The same story was handed down in my family...that we were some kind of cousin to the President. In fact, my family embellished it by saying that the family knew that he really didn't die of pneumonia...he was poisoned! So many researchers have the same story that I once heard a researcher say that the President must have sent our fliers when he campaigning that said, "Hello cousin!" I wish we could all find a connection, and indeed many of us may have a connection, but I gave up on it a long time ago. By the way, my Harrison was Moses from Belmont Co. OH. His daughter, Terzah, married William Dawson there in 1822. Good luck to all, Susan
Posted on: Harrison Queries Board URL: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/FamilyAssoc/Harrison?read=639 Surname: Harrison ------------------------- I do not know who Fannie's parents were, but they are likely, based on the location, decendants of Richard Kirby from West Kirby, England. Richard immigrated to New Haven, Connecticut in 1635. Many of Richard's children became disaffected with the church in Branford colony in New Haven, and moved to Newark, New Jersey in 1666. These included Samuel, John (died childless), Richard Jr., and Mary. I am a direct descendant of Richard Jr., and I'm pretty sure that Fannie is not in his line. I have no information on the offspring of his siblings.
