If they died after Social Security went into effect, I would start by searching the SSDI - Social Security Death Index. If you find them there, with the info they have you can send for their original Social Security applications that will have a lot of info on it. I just did this for my stepfather, Wm Hugh Harrison, I sent a check for $7.00 with my request which you can print out from the site. I had a copy of the original in my hands in about 2 weeks, and the info it included amazed me. It gave me where he lived when he applied, his age, where he was born and the date, and it also gave me his father name and mother's maiden name. Until I got this document, I knew nothing of his family, since then, I have been able to trace them back another 5 generations. Great grandfather Franklin Harrison was living in Taylor County Ky in 1901 when my grandfather Howard L. Harrison was born 25-Oct-1901. Franklin was married to Linnie Berry. Howard's birth certificate shows both mother and father born in Ky and Howard was the third child. Have been unable to find any marriage records for Franklin & Linnie or anything about their parents. His mother was Hattie Louise Barnes father Robert Peyton Harrison, Sr. Hattie was from Miss. Don't know where Senior was born, have been searching. Think it might have been SC. After junior was married, he lived in Tennessee and several of his children were born there. He died in Johnson City, Tn. Is this similar to anything you have?
