Posted on: Harrison Wills Reply Here: http://genconnect.rootsweb.com/genbbs.cgi/FamilyAssoc/HarrisonWill/34 Surname: Harrison, Scott, Reeves, Rodgers, Clark, Hardin ------------------------- There are many Battaile / Batteal / Battle individuals with the Harrison surname. The one for which this will was posted was born in 1839, thus too late to have been in the Rev. War :-). I'm surprised that you found one with the Batteal spelling that far back. The earliest one I was aware of was born in 1780 (the grandfather of the one mentioned in this will). The name (as a first name) originates with Andrew Harrison, Jr.'s marriage to Elizabeth Battaile.

I'm still hunting for the parents of my ggg grandfather, Vincent Dilliard Harrison, b. Dec. 1801 TN; died July, 1857, Bartholomew Co., IN. He first shows up on the 1830 IN federal census in Bartholomew County along with other Harrisons with the first names of Carter and Henry. He does not appear to be the same Vincent Harrison who was a twin to Obed and shows up in Pickaway County, OH about the same time. Other early Harrisons in Bartholomew County were father and son, Thomas and William. I've been part of Becky Bonner's Harrison Genealogy Repository almost from the start so you can see my information there. Vincent first married Nancy Keith and I am descended from them. I'm fortunate to still have my grandfather living (he's 96). He knew Vincent's son, Walter, who was born in 1841 very well so we have a great contiuum of information back to Walter and of Walter's time in the Civil War. Three of Vincent's sons were in the Civil War but only Walter survived. I had always seen Vincent's name with the middle initial D but did not know what it stood for until I obtained some of his land records. The middle name is spelled Dilliard (with the extra i). I have alot of information on his descendants and would happy to share it. Thanks for looking. Kay Harrison Taber San Jose, CA

Hi all, I am trying to see if anyone out there can help me put all these VanMeter's together (lineage/parents) as they are all connected to other families in my family tree. The William Harrison mentioned was my GGGGG-grandfather and father of Robert, James, William Jr. & Keziah Harrison. ******************* This is what I have so far: RE<Land Record notes : " By virtue of warrant granted Thomas Bladen of Prince George's County, Maryland for 1900 acres of land dated by renewment 20 Feb.,1744, survey of 58 acre tract called Maidenhead was made 24 April, 1745. For 1 pound 15 shillings and 11 pence for sixteen years rent and three months to Michs.1761, issue of patent was permitted." ************************* On 8 May,1761 for 29 pounds William Hareson (Harrison) of Frederick County, Maryland was assigned the right and title to Maidenhead. Signed by Benjamin Tasker, attorney for Thomas Bladen. William Harrison was granted 58 acres of land, a tract called Maidenhead, in Frederick County, Maryland, 29 Sept., 1761. He was called William Hareson of Frederick County. ************************* William Harrison received a certificate dated 12 June, 1769 to re-survey a tract called Maidenhead so as to amend errors in the original survey and to add contiguous vacant land. William Harrison was granted 136 acres of tract called Re-Survey of Maidenhead on 13 July, 1770. The enlarged tract included some unclaimed land adjoining the original tract. ************************* William Harrison sold 42 acres of tract called Maidenhead 25 Aug.,1772 to Ezekiel Cox of Frederick County, Maryland. There was no mention of William Harrison's wife. No release of Hannah Harrison's dower rights was found. The 42 acres changed hands for 5 pounds current money. ************************* Robert Harrison of Frederick County, Maryland bought tract of land called the Good and Bad (about 15 acres for 16 pounds) from Ezekiel Cox. Recorded 13 March, 1773. Robert Harrison was granted two tracts of land - Roses Neglect on 31 May, 1765 and Long Island on 1 May, 1765. Robert Harrison sold all three tracts on 18 March, 1773 to Jacque Lancelot and Thomas Johnson Jr. of Annapolis, Maryland, for about 152 pounds. Roses Neglect was 39 acres, Long Island was 21 acres, and Good and Bad was 15 acres. *note<" It is believed that this Robert Harrison was a brother of William Harrison. This Robert must have been born by 1744 in order to own property in 1765. An undated colonial tax list for Frederick County, Maryland lists William Harrison and Robert Harrison. It says that Robert is a resident of Virginia." ************************ William Harrison of Washington County, Maryland & wife Hannah sold 96 acres on 9 Aug., 1779 to John Palmer for 4500 pounds. This was called " part of tract called Maidenhead being part of tract called the Re-Survey of Maidenhead". The land was located about 1 mile above the mouth of Licking Creek. Witnesses: Joseph Chapline, John Stults. ************************ William Harris (spelled Harris but is no doubt William Harrison) "of Washington County, Maryland" bought 2 tracts of land on Buffalo Creek in Ohio County, Virginia. Witness was Robert Harrison. This land was subsequently patented to William and Hannah Harrison's sons James & William Jr. ************************ This James was my GGGG-grandfather, husband of Mary Brice, who was the daughter of Samuel Brice & Rachel Boone. James Harrison, "heir at law of William Harrison", and his mother Hannah sold William Harrison's land in 1787. James went to Kentucky where his brothers, William and Robert had settled. ****Note - It is believed that the Robert Harrison who owned the land in Washington County, Maryland was probably a brother of William Harrison. Also it is suspected that Robert Harrison had children who went to southwestern Pennsylvania (area also claimed by Virginia) about 1770. James Harrison, the son and heir of William , and 3 other Harrison men established claims in what is now Fayette Co., Pennsylvania, in 1769. No proof of a relationship has been found. ********************** Land records: November 5, 1787 James Harrison heir at law to William Harrison, deceased, and Hannah Harrison his mother of Ohio County, Virginia sold to Daniel VanMetre of said county, one hundred and fifty acres of land to corner of Levy Mills, William Holmes, Benjamin Biggs and Edward Morgan. Witness: Reuben Forman James Harrison William Harrison Jr Hannah Harrison ************************************* November 5, 1787 James Harrison heir at law to William Harrison, deceased, and Hannah Harrison his mother sold to William Holmes of Ohio County, Virginia, fifty acres of land on the waters of Short Creek near Benjamin Biggs. Witness: John Connell James Harrison Francis Kanady Hannah Harrison ************************************* November 6, 1787 James Harrison, heir at law to William Harrison Sr., deceased, and Hannah Harrison his mother, widow of Ohio County, Virginia sold to Levy Mills of the same county, one hundred and eighty four acres of land on the waters of Short Creek by Edward Morgan, Cochran & Daniel VanMetre, including settlement made thereon in 1773 which was granted to William Harrison Sr. July 5, 1786. Witness: Daniel VanMetre James Harrison John Spahr Hannah Harrison ************************************* 1792 - " I, Jonah Seaman of Ohio County, attorney for James Harrison now of Kentucky for the sum of seventy- five pounds do sell to James Moore of Ohio County, sixty acres in waters of Buffalo Creek and Ohio River." Witness: William Sutherland Jonah Seaman Isaac Kelley for James Harrison John Caldwell ************************************* 1792 - Jonah Seaman of Ohio County, Virginia, attorney for James Harrison, now of the district of Kentucky in Virginia sold to Robert Moore of Ohio County for five hundred and ten pounds, three hundred and forty acres on waters of Buffalo Creek and Ohio River in Ohio County joining Henry Barton.
