I am working with a very old genealogy report of this Harrison family, that was not documented. I do not have a wife's name for this William, but the report says that William had 7 children that he brought with him, along with his wife. My connection is William's daughter Mary Ann Harrison that m. Abraham Somes in 1831 in Guelph. I do not have the names of Mary's siblings. The search for this family has been going on for years, so any clues or info would be so appreciated! Carolyn

    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Surnames: Harrison, Smith, Matthews Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/jhh.2ACIB/4788 Message Board Post: I'm looking for descendants of William and Sophia W. (SMITH) HARRISON. They had the following children: Trent E., Dabney O., Mary D., Kiturah J., Abner, Benjamin, Sophia W., and Missouri W. William also had sons named Theodorick who served in the War of 1812 in 62 Reg't (Selden's) Virginia Militia and William Henry. Trent E. married three times and moved to Nottoway and then Dinwiddie counties and lived through the 1860 census. Sophia W. (my greatgreatgrandmother,) married Nathaniel MATTHEWS, Jr. and moved to Henderson co KY about 1840 where she died sometime after the 1880 census. I have been unable to trace the other children. Their mother died in 1824, leaving a will. William HARRISON, died in Prince Edward co, in 1822, leaving a will, also. It is believed this William is the son of William HARRISON of the 1765 Prince Edward will and Mary (possibly GRAY) HARRISON, who died in 1811 in Prince Edward co also. Any help with this family would be much appreciated.

    1. [HARRISON] Harrisons making British Mercantile claims
    2. Glenna Kinard
    3. Hope this will help someone. It came via the Prince William County Va. list. http://www.pwcgov.org/library/relic/reliquary/pwr0703.pdf BRITISH MERCANTILE CLAIMS, 1775-1803 Claims relating to Prince William County Customers and/or Residents Extracted and indexed by Margaret B. Binning The properties of many British merchants operating in Virginia were confiscated during the Revolutionary War. Virginians often refused to pay debts that were owed to those stores. The peace treaty with Britain, 1783, allowed the merchants to sue in American courts for recovery of these debts. Beginning about 1800, special agents investigated persons owing the debts to determine their current status. In a long series of articles published between 1962 and 1989 in The Virginia Genealogist, John Frederick Dorman prepared abstracts of British Mercantile Claims for the state of Virginia. Following is an index of persons who appear in those reports who were customers of Prince William firms, or were identified as Prince William residents at the beginning of the war. Data extracted includes the customer's name, estimated date of death (if deceased), date the debt was due, current status of the debt (outcome), citation from The Virginia Genealogist, and the name of the creditor. For additional information, please see Mr. Dorman's abstracts which cite particular documents in the Public Record Office, London. DW Compiler's notes on developing this Index of the articles that appeared in The Virginia Genealogist: 1. Death dates were estimated by subtracting from the date of the report if known otherwise subtracting from 1803, the latest date of the reports. 2. The term "then solvent" refers to being solvent at the time of death. 3. To facilitate search, multi-owner debtor company names are listed under the name of each owner and will therefore appear more than once in this index. 4. Square brackets "[ ]" reflect comments of the complier. 5. See each Virginia Genealogist citation for reference to the original Treasury Papers series. Bla. (Fal) = John Bland (Falmouth) Bog. My GtGrandfather was James Harrison born about 1860, oral history states that James and his family were from Manchester .James was a soldier in the British Army (Connaught Rangers)and fought in the Boer War . He married Mary Daly and lived in Ballinasloe, Co.Galway, Ireland . I cannot find any Irish civil registration for his marriage to Mary (about 1890) or for the birth of the first two children Kathleen and Arthur and suspect they married in England and had the first two children there. If anyone has British Civil registrations for Harrison of this time frame maybe they could locate my missing Harrisons or offer any advice on how to progress. Ann.

Our immigrants came from Rillington, Yorkshire. It doesnn't look far from Leeds. They thought they were connected to the John Harrison that made the chronometer. He was born in .1693, and died in 1776. They name his father, one son (not the one that fought to get the money). He lived in the southern region of England, and was a watch maker. It's possible everyone thinks they are related to him. Our family went to Nova Scotia in 1774, but there are Harrison families that immigrated much earlier to the US.Harri

He came to South Africa from Australia where he had tried his hand at prospecting for gold, or so he claims. He was a mason by trade and seemed to have gotten into trouble with the law quite often. It was rumoured that he was wanted in Australia for embezzlement. He disappeared from Johannesburg shortly after the finding of the reef and thought that he might have died of fever on his way to Barberton. He was a misterious quiet man, apparently of Cornish decent. I would appreciate any information! Thank you Liezel
