Gainey Harris, d. 1693, Lancaster County, dau. Ann m. 1702, Henry Skipwith Carter. Ann Chowning was listed in his will as mother-in-law. Who were his parents and spouse, other family members? Catherine Gaines (d. 1814, Essex Co.) m. Ambrose Howerton, son, Robert Gaines Howerton, b. 1796, d. 1854. Who were her parents and siblings? Cora Lee Curtis, 1756 N. Harris p.229 *24 October 1673 - Thomas Harris of Turkey Island, Henrico County sold to John Smith (?) of Charles City County an Indian boy [chk: Henrico County Deeds, 135; FHC Film #0031769] p. 231 *26 June 1695 - Mary Smith (?) married Peter Harris [chk: Annals and History of Henrico Parish, by Rev. L.W. Burton, ed. and comp. J. Stanunton Moore, (Richmond: St John's Church, 1904)p.226] p. 235 Written interview of Mary Watts Pitts, *1778 Obadiah Smith married Lucy Harris. Granddaughter Mary Watts Pitts said they married while he was on furlough from Army service. *9 June 1781 - Mary Burke Smith born to Obadiah and Lucy Harris Smith *22 Dec. 1803 - Mary Burke Smith, daughter of Obadiah, married William Watts *Obadiah was born to Obadiah and Mary (Burke) Smith in 1755 in Goochland; married in 1778 Lucy Harris; and died in 1808 in Chesterfield County. He had no sons named Obadiah or Luke. His granddaughter, Mary Watts Pitts listed as siblings of her mother: John, Peter Field, and Jordan. [Ferris, Cocke, Woodson, Daft, Gromarrin and numerous others Powhatan, Chesterfield, Henrico,Goochland, Lunenburg, and many other counties are named. -- ILH3] This too was hard to read. To understand it you would have to sit down and work out the family groups. If the Cocke or Woodson families are part of your lines you may wish to look at this. ******************** My hope is that there is a clue here to help someone.
