Ira: The D.C. Harris on the census list below is Daniel Cameron Harris. He was born 5/14/24 and died 1/16/03. He was a self-taught herb doctor and also farmed. His first wife (Martha Dixson Smith) was sister to Alabama Governor William Hugh Smith. Following her death in 1866, Daniel married a Civil War widow (Manda Blake Owens). Between the two wives there were ten children. Daniel was also the younger brother to my g-g grandfather (Hugh W. Harris). Hugh W. Harris relocated from Randolph County AL to Hardin and McNairy counties Tennessee in the 1840's. I have searched in vain for information on their ancestry. To date, I have found one obscure internet reference listing their parents names as Mark and Mary. If this rings a bell with anyone, please contact me.
