So I looked at the 1880 Newton County, Mississippi census. I found seven Harris families. Here are the heads of each family and the spouse if listed. I have also listed the listed children. Leodicia Harris (Mrs. Evan R. Harris) died. 30 June, 1853 Heirs: listed in will Sandford T. Harris, Sumter County Elizabeth (wife of Sherod Harris) Archibald David D. Simeon P. Choctaw C., AL Evan C. Laodiciea (Mrs. Lewis Shirley of Noxubee C., MS) Staunton Y. I believe, based on this information, that the S Y Harris in Newton County, MS in 1880 is the son of Evan Harris. He is listed in 1850 Greene County, AL census with Leodicia Harris 64, Elizabeth Harris 35, Leodicy Harris 17, Stanten Harris 18 and Ptolemn Harris (cannot read the age). He is in Choctaw County, Alabama in 1860 and Neshoba County, MS in 1870. I don't know if the other Harris families are connected or not.
