I have transcribed the download of a photo page Emma Wills Harris sent me regarding the family of David Harris b 1730 England m Dorothy Hounslow in 1760 in England. This David Harris came to VA from her record. Sons William b 1760 VA and Jonathan are found in Shelby Co, KY records. "Harris Family History on page 128: This is the information for which this author has searched far and wide. Thanks to the help of Mildred Gray who told this author that there was a letter written by Wyatt Harris on his family, this author was able to launch an investigation to find his letter. Mildred Gray found notes on this Harris family in the Kentucky Historical Society written by Mrs. Ernest Reklis on the Harris family using information obtained from a letter written by Wyatt Harris, Jr., to his cousin in Putnam Co, IN in early1900's. This letter traces the Harris family in this book back to Kent, England. Here are quotes from the letter. "David Harris was born in Kent County, England in the year 1730 where his ancestors had been born and raised and lived for many generations. In the oldest record that I could find in the Parish Church in Kent, England, the name is spelled Harrissee, which is the way the Normans would spell the name Harris. The family in England, when Great-grandfather, David Harris, came to America, were engaged in Hops growing in Kent. In the year 1760, said David Harris was married to an English lady, (whose name was later found to be Dorothy Hounslow from a letter sent to an old cousing in 1910) and soon after crossed the sea, and settled on a tract of land, on the James River in the Colony of Virginia-a part of the land, then owned by said David Harris is now covered by a part of the city of Richmond.." A copy of the letter is available if anyone of the Harris family wishes to have it. Wyatt Harris goes on to say that David and Dorothy Harris had seven children of which William was the oldest. Some of the dates do not match those of record, but here they are: William Harris born in 1760; Dorothy Harris born in 1764; David Harris born in 1766; Docia Harris born in 1769' Catherine Harris born in 1771 Sherod Harris born in 1773; Jonathan Harris born in 1777. William Harris, eldest son of the above named David Harris was married to Keziah Sneed (of Welch ancestry) in the year 1782 in VA, and after the close of the Revolutionary War, he migrated to, and settled in what is now Shelby County, Kentucky, where he reared a family of ten sons and daughters. Wyatt Harris goes on to tell about the family as he knows them in the letter. A copy of the letter will be in the Shelby County, Kentucky library. In the letter that Wyatt Harris wrote to D. Harris in Vermillion, Kansas in 1908, he stated that he had traced the family back to 1645 in England. The records were destroyed after his death. Keziah Sneed's father was John Sneed. This information was obtained by a suit filed by her against his estate."
