N'umberland Co., at head of Mattapony Riv., 8 Oct. 1668, p. 198. Adj. Machotick Path & land of Tymothy Green. Trans. of 12 pers: Tho. Gregson, Tho. Hutchinson, Jno. Butcher, Wm. Battin, Jno. Griffin, Jno. Hemerson, Rich. Lentall, Wm. Morris, Wm. Hill, Rich. Chapman, Jno. Fish, Jno Buxton. Response: I wrote earlier to the list of a book by W. Preston Haynie called Records of Indentured Servants and of Certificates for Land, Northumberland County, Virginia, 1650-1795 [Bowie, MD:  Heritage Books, Inc., 1996].  I decided to check Mr. Haynie's index for the names of transportees listed in the above patent. Lo and behold, I believe our patentees must have read the earlier order books and copied from an entry made about four years earlier by another resident of Northumberland Co. I will not list ALL the persons in the following entry, but note the duplication of names which appear in the patent quoted above: 313. 20 April 1664 These may certify that Mr. John Lee made his right appeare to 4700 acres of Land for the transportation of ninety fower [94] persons into this Collony by his father Coll. Richd. Lee who is now decd. Viz: [majority of the 94 persons omitted by this e-mailer] Thomas Gregson Thomas Hutchinson John Butcher William Battin John Griffith John Hemmerson Richard Lentail William Morris William Hill Richd Chapman John Fish John Buxton (If any Harris-Hunters subscribe to Northumberland rootsweb list--if there is one--you may want to forward this to that list.)
